Inner Sphere Nations

Federated Suns:

The Federated Commonwealth bore the brunt of the assaults from the Clans, losing territory to the Smoke Jaguars, Jade Falcons, Wolf and even Steel Vipers.  The Capellan March has vanished entirely and the fringe of the Crucis March has been reorganized into the Star League March, with militia units reassigned accordingly.

Once the Clans seized Terra, the mighty Federated Commonwealth was effectively split in two.  While it was briefly possible to transport troops and resources through the Free Rasalhague Republic that option was removed in 3053 when the FRR joined the new Star League.

As such, the Federated Commonwealth was officially dissolved, marking the rebirth of the Lyran Commonwealth and Federated Suns.  Since that time, the Federated Suns has been busy rebuilding its military might.

Lyran Commonwealth:

Recent Lyran history has been turbulent to say the least.  Many premier military units were destroyed by the Clan onslaught, causing much grumbling amongst the Lyran population.  But the economy soldiered on, until the FRR joined the Star League.  At that point, trade with the Federated Suns became impossible.

The ComGuard forces that survived the crucible of Terra largely retreated to the Commonwealth, under orders from Precentor Martial Anastasius Focht.  These military forces have proven a boon.

Recently, the Skye region seceded.  While Lyran troops attempted to keep the rebellious province in line, Skye called for aid from the Star League and it responded.  Forces of Clan Ice Hellion swept into Skye and scoured the region of Lyran forces before setting themselves up on Hesperus II.

In a bold move, Archon Victor proposed a peace treaty with the Free Worlds League.  Captain-General Marik eagerly accepted, signing the Treaty of Loric.  An uneasy peace has existed along their border ever since.

Draconis Combine:

The Draconis Combine survived the Clan invasion largely unscathed.  While many generals wished to attack the Federated Commonwealth at its moment of weakness, cooler heads prevailed and the Combine adopted a wait and see policy.

This policy was put to the test when the Jade Falcons abandoned their occupation zone following the Wolf victory at Terra.  The Falcons were intent on reclaiming some honour and so sought to conquer Vega, the world where the original Star League was formed.  The Falcons invaded with their entire touman and secured a dozen systems around Vega.

Shortly after this, the Azami worlds declared their intention to secede.  The loss of five worlds was of little importance given the larger issues facing the Dragon.  Word had come that the FRR had joined the new Star League and that Clan troops were being sent to reinforce its borders.

Then in mid-3054, Coordinator Takashi Kurita was assassinated by Michi Noketsuna, former Warlord of Dieron.  Noketsuna then took his own life, leaving behind a note claiming final vengeance for his fallen commander Minobu Tetsuhara.

With all this going on, new Coordinator Theodore Kurita has been focusing on reorganizing the DCMS to fit his combat philosophy’s and tasking the ISF with acquiring examples of Clan technology which could be used as guidelines for advances.

Free Worlds League:

The Free Worlds League fared poorly against the Clan onslaught, losing many premier units.  Internal factionalism threatened to tear the nation apart, but the steady hand of Thomas Marik kept the realm together.

The loss of Andurien to the Clans, while tragic, removed one of the most contentious voices from the FWL parliament.  The recent secession of the Regulus region has removed the other.  Now, though greatly reduced, the FWL is more unified than at any other time in its history.

Several bold political moves have marked the last few years.  The first move was the welcoming of Capellan refugees, including Sun-Tzu Liao, nominally the Chancellor of the defunct Confederation.  Captain-General Marik welcomed the displaced leader and even saw to the betrothal to his daughter Isis.  This gained the FWL possible legitimacy in the hoped for reclaiming of Capellan worlds as well as the loyalty of the military units that accompanied Sun-Tzu.

The second move was to sign the Treaty of Loric, a non-aggression treaty with the Lyran Commonwealth.  Once this was accomplished, the FWL capitol was officially moved to distant Tamarind, far from the Clan border.

Outworlds Alliance:

Life has proceeded largely unchanged in the Outworlds.  A handful of Taurian refugees made the long trek to the Alliance and have had a relatively easy time integrating.

The Fallen:

Taurian Concordat:

The Concordat was the first nation to be assaulted by the Clans.  Clan Steel Viper won the bidding for this prickly periphery nation with a daringly low bid.  This proved a glaring mistake. The Taurians refused to surrender at any turn, quickly breaking out nuclear devices when it became apparent that they could not win against the technological edge of the Vipers.  The Vipers took exception to this and proceeded to orbitally bombard any world that refused to surrender to them.

By the time the Vipers declared victory, only one tenth of the Taurian population survived.  Some few managed to escape to the Outworlds Alliance while the rest are now sullen vassals of the Snow Ravens.

St. Ives Compact:

The defenders of St. Ives fought bravely, but this tiny nation simply couldn’t cope with the forces of Clan Jade Falcon.  With the Federated Commonwealth unable to render assistance the Compact wilted beneath the storm of Clan assaults.  Attempts were made to bring in more mercenaries and peace overtures were even made with the Confederation, but it was all for naught.  The Compact fell, as did most of the ruling line.  Only a few regiments managed to retreat to the dubious safety of the Federated Suns.

Capellan Confederation:

The forces of the Confederation fought valiantly, but it was ultimately a losing prospect.  This much reduced nation was rolled over primarily by the Wolf Clan.

Most of the CCAF fought to the death at the prompting of the Maskirovka and mad Chancellor Romano Liao.  A few regiments escaped to the Combine, FWL and Northwind.

Romano Liao died in battle on Sian, falling to Wolf ristar Evantha Fetladral.  Sun-Tzu Liao was spirited away to the FWL by Ion Rush of House Imarra.  That warrior house now serves as the personal guard of the Chancellor-in-Exile.  The whereabouts of Kali Liao are unknown.

The Capellan worlds are slowly being indoctrinated into the Way of the Clans thanks to the efforts of ilKhan Kerensky and Star Colonel Talon.

Clan Steel Viper:

The Steel Vipers gained the honour of attacking the Taurian Concordat but ultimately their low bidding led to a situation where they could not counter Taurian aggression and stubbornness.  In the end, they virtually depopulated the Concordat, all while keeping it a secret from the rest of the Clans.

When Clan Snow Raven discovered what they had done, the information was immediately presented to the grand council.  A close vote resulted in absorption rather than annihilation and the Snow Ravens barely managed to win the rights to carry out the absorption.

The Vipers fought tenaciously but the damage inflicted on their touman by the Taurians proved too great and they were successfully absorbed into the Ravens.  Several bloodlines were reaved and many warriors executed for their roles in the Taurian depopulation.  The rest hold minor positions in the Raven touman.

Just one question: why would any Clan bid so much force away to invade the Taurian Concordat? They should know their history and avoid wasting resources by trying to reach what is unreachable.

Viper arrogance.  Their leaders never struck me as being particularly mindful of history's lessons.

The Odd:

Magistracy of Canopus/Clan Diamond Shark:

When Clan Diamond Shark won the right to invade the Magistracy of Canopus, no one foresaw the result.

In the early days of the invasion, an ambassador was dispatched by the Magistrix seeking an audience with the leaders of  the invasion.  This ambassador was quickly brought to the Khan and a deal fleshed out.

In exchange for protection (meaning the dismantling of their military) the Magistracy would grant full title to a trio of worlds to the Diamond Sharks as well as favoured trading status and access to all the Magistracy’s clients.

A burgeoning partnership between the merchants of both groups has led to a strengthening of ties between the cultures of both groups, such that some idealistic observers believe an eventual merger a distinct possibility.

With three galaxies stationed in the Inner Sphere, the Diamond Sharks have been very careful not to anger their neighbours in the Homeworlds.

Star League - Clan Territories:

ilClan Wolf:

The Wolves were initially against the idea of invading the Inner Sphere, but once the decision had been made, they threw themselves into the project whole-heartedly.  The road to Terra became a race between the Wolves, Jaguars and Falcons.  When the Falcons were stymied at Outreach, Khan Ulric Kerensky knew he had to reach Terra first at all costs, lest the Jaguars succeed and become ilClan.  The bloodbath that would unleash was too horrible to contemplate.  Khan Ulric expended any and all units necessary to achieve the goal of securing Terra.  He managed to succeed, wresting the world from ComStar after a month long campaign across the Antarctic, South America and the plains of Russia.

After fending off the Smoke Jaguars Refusal of this conquest, ilKhan Ulric declared the invasion at an end and imposed a five year peace upon the Clans.  He then extended an offer to all successor houses to join the new Star League peacefully.

Since the end of the invasion, much of the ilKhan’s efforts have been aimed at integrating the Capellan population as well as keeping the peace between the rival factions of the grand council.

Clan Blood Spirit:

With Terra secured by Clan Wolf, the Blood Spirits surprised everyone with a bid to secure Mars from the last of ComStar’s holdouts.  The battle weary leaders of Clan Wolf eagerly agreed and cordoned off the world until the Blood Spirits could arrive.  With the assistance of Clans Diamond Shark and Snow Raven, the Spirits picked up and moved virtually their entire population.  They landed in force and promptly secured the world, exterminating all ComStar personnel on planet.  Since that time they have transformed Mars into the model Clan planet and their sole home.

Clan Coyote:

The Coyote’s largely sat out the invasion, only acquiring an Inner Sphere holding when the Wolves needed to cut loose some territory.  This landed the Coyote’s some much needed resources and has allowed them to slowly start rebuilding their touman.  For now they are content to maintain their territory.

Clan Ghost Bear:

The Ghost Bears won the right to invade the FWL corridor.  While they believed at the time that this would make for an easy corridor, it proved not to be the case.  Many FWL units fought to the death because they were defending their homes and family.  The Bears could appreciate that and have endeavoured to keep a light touch on the civilian population.  This had the effect of slowing their progress however.  Added to the fierce bidding for the right to seize Outreach, the Bears took themselves out of the running to be the first Clan to Terra.

Since the end of the invasion the Bears have been gradually moving their population into the Inner Sphere with the long range plan of moving entirely to the Inner Sphere.  They have worked closely with the Wolves in an attempt to forge closer ties with the ilClan.

Clan Hell’s Horses:

Originally a reserve Clan, the Hell’s Horses participated in some of the early skirmishes in the Taurian Concordat before being called up to serve as garrison forces for the Wolves and Falcons.  In the wake of the Falcon relocation to Vega, the Horses seized a fair amount of worlds and were also rewarded with numerous rear area worlds by the Wolves.

The Horses have split their touman roughly 50/50 between the Homeworlds and Inner Sphere, an arrangement that has created some tension amongst the warriors.

Clan Ice Hellion:

The Ice Hellions failed to win a position in the invasion force but in the post invasion years were used by the ilKhan as a rapid deployment force to help secure the borders of those nations that joined the Star League.  As such there are Hellion troops in both the Skye and Rasalhague regions, with some having served on Regulus as well.

Tensions have been building between the Hellions and the leaders of Skye, as the Hellion occupation of Hesperus II was supposed to have been a temporary affair.  The matter will likely soon come to a head.

Clan Jade Falcon:

The Jade Falcons won the prestigious Capellan Confederation/Capellan March invasion corridor, a highly contentious border region that was hoped would provide sufficient challenge to their troops.  The toughest battles the Falcons faced however were on St. Ives, where the Compact made its last stand, and on Outreach where the Falcons won the right to punish the Wolfs Dragoons.  The battles on Outreach gutted Gamma galaxy and delayed the Falcons advance enough that the Wolves were able to reach Terra first.

A hasty assembly of warriors was convened and the decision was made to uproot their invasion force and head for the world of Vega.  It was felt that seizing the world where the original Star League was formed would have almost as much honour as taking Terra itself.  The Falcons mercilessly drove the Combine forces from fourteen worlds around Vega and settled in, calling for the entirety of their touman and civilian population to join them there.

In late 3054 the Falcons experienced a second Culling.  Though somewhat weakened the Falcons emerged more ideologically pure.

Clan Nova Cat:

The Nova Cats won the right to be a reserve unit but were not called upon during the invasion.  They waited patiently on the staging world of Herotitus, believing their chance would come.  It did not.  They were however the first to encounter emissaries of ComStar.  Oathmaster Biccon Winters violently opposed letting the ComStar ambassador meet with the ilKhan and killed her.  While Winters was reprimanded for this, she claimed that a vision had guided her actions.  After this ComStar was viewed with some suspicion and treated accordingly.

In the post invasion years, the Nova Cats have stationed one galaxy of troops in the Principality of Regulus to safeguard that fledgling nation from predation by the Inner Sphere.  However there are tensions developing, with the Regulans viewing the Cats as simple mercenaries.  Only time will tell if an amicable solution can be reached.

Clan Smoke Jaguar:

The Smoke Jaguars pushed hard to win the coveted Federated Suns invasion corridor, as the Suns was home to their founder.  Several early victories led to serious overconfidence on the part of Jaguar leaders and troops, which caused problems later in the invasion.

It was Kathil that truly slowed the Jaguars advance.  The then Federated Commonwealth kept throwing RCT after RCT into the meat grinder that the world had become.  The Jaguars had no choice but to respond in kind.  By the time they had finally emerged victorious, the Wolves had taken Terra.

Leo Showers immediately called a Refusal against the Wolves but was soundly defeated.  The humiliated former ilKhan was offered a prestigious post as Defender of Terra but refused and disappeared into the periphery.  Some say he committed suicide rather than live under Wolf rule, while others say he lives, biding his time.

Clan Snow Raven:

While not participating in the invasion itself, the Snow Ravens have managed to acquire multiple holdings in the Inner Sphere.  The Viper absorption netted them the remains of the Taurian Concordat, and they are working strenuously to rebuild these shattered worlds.

The Ravens have also managed to secure for themselves both the Kathil Shipyards (renamed back to McKenna Shipyards) and the Titan Shipyards in the Terran system.  This was accomplished through careful bidding and trading political favours.

They have also secured hefty gains in the homeworlds, making them an important player in the reborn Star League.

Clan Star Adder:

The Star Adders have been the Clan to benefit the most from the Jade Falcon relocation to the Inner Sphere.  When it was clear that the Falcons had completely abandoned their invasion corridor in favour of Vega, the Star Adders won the bidding to occupy it.  They had to spend some months putting down rebellions, but their comparatively light hand compared to the Falcons has begun to win the hearts and minds of their Inner Sphere population.

In the Homeworlds the Adders managed to secure most of the Falcons holdings on Ironhold as well as several other key Falcon enclaves, some of which they traded away for much needed resources.

Star League – Nations:

Free Rasalhague Republic:

When they received ilKhan Kerensky’s message inviting all nations of the Inner Sphere into the Star League a serious debate began in the Riksdag.  Should Rasalhague take the invaders up on their offer? Or remain neutral?  Either would cause difficulties with both the Federated Commonwealth and Draconis Combine.  Eventually a consensus was reached and an ambassador was quietly sent to Terra.  Once there, terms were negotiated and the FRR became a member of the Star League, with full voting rights to be established in 3055.

In the wake of this perceived betrayal, several attacks were launched by both the Federated Commonwealth and rogue elements of the Combine.  These attacks were repulsed with ease as Ice Hellion troops had taken up station in the FRR in preparation for just such an eventuality.

Since then, training emissaries from the Clans have been struggling to get the KungsArme up to a reasonable level of skill.

Principality of Regulus:

The leaders of Regulus had been becoming less and less happy with the government on Atreus during the course of the invasion.  When it was perceived that the Captain-General was concentrating more and more power in his hands, the Regulans attempted to call attention to it and prevent it.  Instead, parliament granted the powers the Captain-General had demanded.  Becoming more and more frustrated the Regulans had had enough.  They announced their secession from the Free Worlds League and joined the Star League.

It was not their ideal solution, and many Regulans would prefer to be totally independent, but for now they are making the best of the situation by absorbing as much new technology as they can.

Federation of Skye:

The Free Skye movement began gaining traction once the Sarna March had been conquered.  Demonstrations, rallies and strikes became more and more common.  When news came that Rasalhague had joined the Star League, Free Skye seized its moment.  They contacted all military units loyal to them and in a month long running battle, chased all FedCom troops from Skye territory.  They then declared independence, requested admittance into the Star League and requested military aid.

Since that time, Skye has largely flourished.  The only sticking point is the disposition of Hesperus II, which was supposed to be secured by the Ice Hellions and then handed over to Skye control.  This has yet to happen and has led to increasing tension.

Azami Freeholds:

After watching Vega fall to the Jade Falcons, and the Combine’s inability to stop it, the Azami leaders began an intense debate.  They had stayed with the Combine because its strength offered them safety, but now the new Star League offered them something more: autonomy.

With their decision made, the Azami leaders quietly recalled the Arkab Legions and seized control of five worlds (Rukbat, Shitara, Dabih, Algedi, and Albalii).  They then declared their independence and requested recognition by and membership in the Star League.

Since that time the Azami have been quietly reaping the benefits of member status, while eying their border, lest the Combine seek to reconquer them.

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

Indeed. I figured two such ... pragmatic groups would be able to come to an arrangement.  More will develop there, never fear :)
