Of Sharks and Canopus
« on: November 13, 2014, 12:15:27 PM »

This is a very brief rundown of the direction the unified Diamond Sharks and Magistracy of Canopus was going to go. - AJB

The Tiburon Magistracy

The seeds of the Tiburon Magistracy were laid as far back as the Clans initial invasion. Rather than conquer the Magistracy of Canopus, the Sharks entered into negotiations that resulted in a peaceful surrender in exchange for protection. The Sharks immediately began upgrading the Magistracy's infrastructure and ingratiating themselves with the spheroids. The War of the Chosen drew the two groups closer together when the Sharks protected Canopus over their own holdings in the homeworlds.

The aftermath of the war saw the Sharks relocate wholesale into Canopus while also allowing the resurrection of several Canopus units, though now built along Clan lines.  Decisions were made jointly by the Magestrix and Khan and by 3090 the groups were nearly fused together. In 3100 a new nation was declared - the Tiburon Magistracy, which was a truly equal blending of the Magistracy of Canopus and Clan Diamond Shark.

The military remained mostly Clan in structure, but native freeborns were now earnestly sought out to rebuild the touman. The old leadership posts were eliminated and new ones open to all were instituted.  The new ruler of the realm is known as the Dynast, a position elected every 10 years, and open to all women within the realm, with the intention of opening it to men after 50 years (which did occur).

The ranks of Khan and saKhan were replaced with a single Gurkhan who is elected from amongst the Galaxy Commanders and then approved by the Dynast.  The Clan breeding system and bloodnames continue to exist but are nowhere near as important as they once were.  Clan bred warriors continue to make up the bulk of the touman.

The position of Loremaster has been merged with that of cultural minister to create the position of seneschal.

Merchants play an important role in the new realm as well.  Merchant convoys roam the Inner Sphere and Exodus Road, guarded by their assigned clusters, promoting trade and trials across the breadth of the Star League.  The Tiburon Magistracy is second only to the Blood Spirits in such active promotion of the benefits of the Star League.

Reactions amongst the Clans were varied  and frequently negative, but the quick support of the ilKhan quieted all dissent fairly quickly.

The Magistracy strives to maintain cordial relations with all members of the Star League, but the Ghost Bears have rebuffed all such efforts and a feud is slowly building between the Tiburon Magistracy and the Ghost Bears.

The Magistracy has slowly expanded its territory, claiming many worlds from the Free Worlds Commonwealth and Ghost Bear territories, even laying joint claim to Herotitus with the Snow Ravens.

Colonies of sea foxes and diamond sharks have been transported to select worlds in the Magistracy, keeping the past alive.

I can understand why the Bears launched a crusade.

This doesn't sound really clanlike.

But it does sound like the Sharks, possibly like the Magistracy and definitely like the Bear reaction

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

True.  Even the faction being cast as the 'bad guys' needs to have an understandable reason.
