Overview:
During the Reunification War, one of the biggest surprises for the SLDF was the Concordat's large number of Marines who were trained in Zero-G combat and ship boarding operations.  Using these troops the Concordat managed to capture numerous Star League and Federated Suns Warships.  Rather then simply dispose of these ships, the Concordat pressed them into service to help make up for their losses.  Initially these prize ships were deployed defending the Hyades Cluster and other rear areas, freeing up more Taurian built ships from front line service.  However, Marshal David Santos, commander of the Concordat Navy, soon came up with a new use for these vessels.  The captured ships were turned against their former owners in a series of raiding missions, hitting targets deep behind enemy lines.  By using the captured vessels, the Concordat strike forces could pose as AFFS convoys, lulling the defenders into a false sense of security before attacking.  The most common vessel in these raiding parties was the Vincent Corvette.  The Vincent was one of the most common vessels in the SLDF and AFFS navies and was captured in large numbers by the Concordat.  While the missions conducted by the raiders were generally successful, the Taurian were unimpressed by the Vincent, many Taurian naval officers felt that the Pinto or even the Guardian class corvettes greatly outmatched the Vincent, even though they were less then half its size. A solution to this problem was finally developed in the early 2580s.  In 2581, the Concordat launched the first ship designed specifically as raider, the Mustang.  As more Mustangs came off the building ways, there Concordat Navy was able to rotate some of the Vincents off of the front lines.  These ships were brought to the Taurus Shipyards where they conducted an ambitious program to rebuild the Vincents. Transformed from a weak corvette to a powerful raider capable of challenging cruisers, the new Vincents were soon terrorizing the spaceways of the Federated Suns.  It is unclear just how many modified Vincents the Concordat Navy has operated.  While there are reasonable accurate numbers of how many Vincents the Concordat managed to press into service, several vessels of this class were destroyed during the Reunification War.  It is unclear whether or not all of the vessels were modified before they were lost.  The best estimate is that the Concordat deployed between 11 and 15 modified Vincents, although the number could be as high as 20 ships.

Capabilities:
The modified Vincents have proven to be very effective in Concordat service.  While not as swift as the Pinto Corvette or Mustang Raider, the large engines of the Vincent provide it with good acceleration and maneuverability.  As the ship is expected to operate deep behind enemy lines for extended periods of time, the fuel tanks were greatly enlarged, increasing the ship's endurance.

The majority of the changes made to the Vincents involved improving the ships firepower and protection.  The Taurian versions of the Vincent mount over 3 times as much armor as a standard Mk 39 model.  The ship retains the advanced Ferro-Carbide Armor that was mounted on the ship, using samples of the armor, Taurian scientists were able to reverse engineer the technology and put it into production.  The new armor provides the ship with better protection then the Block I Concordat class frigates and is almost equal to the protection of the Bulldog class destroyers.

The weapons array also under went radical changes.  The refit replaced each of the forward facing Class 10 NACs with a pair of Vandenberg Arms God’s Wrath-30 Naval Autocannons. The ship removed the broadside mounted Naval Autocannons in favor of the God’s Wrath-30 Naval Autocannons. To provide additional firepower against warships and dropships the refit added 24 Medium Naval Lasers to the Vincent.  The majority of these weapons are mounted on the fore of the shift, allowing the Vincent to engage enemy targets from long range while closing with the target.  A few of the Naval Lasers are mounted on the aft of the ship, covering a major vulnerability with the ships original weapons layout.

The 2 Barracuda missile launchers carried in the nose of the Vincent were replaced with White Shark missile launchers.  Two additional launchers were added to cover the rear arcs of the ship.  While not as effective against aerospace fighters as the Barracuda, the White Shark is preferred because of it's ability to launch the Jericho nuclear missile.

Fighter protection is provided by 32 PPCs. The original dual laser turrets were replaced by quad PPC turrets and additional turrets were placed to cover the fore and the rear sides.  The ship also carries a squadron of fighters to provide additional defense.  This required adding two fighter bays to accommodate a standard Taurian fighter squadron.

Deployment:
The modified Vincents were assigned to conduct raiding operations against SLDF and AFFS troop convoys and shipping.  Operating from the Shangri-La base deep in the Federated Suns, the ships hit targets all across the Federated Suns.  Many of the SLDF and AFFS commanders were caught off guard by the improved capabilities of the Vincent, more then one ship was destroyed when they assumed they were facing a standard Vincent, only to take multiple hits from the Vincent's massive class 30 Naval Autocannon or to be savaged at long range by the ships Naval Lasers.

Interesting. The Vincent's oversized cargo bay is put to good use.

Ciao
