Aumakau-class Destroyer
« on: May 10, 2022, 04:21:10 PM »

I am 90% certain I borrowed the base design for this from someone else but I cannot remember who... so I'll just leave a general thanks for the assist.

This is the Aumakau-class Destroyer from my AU.  It uses a couple of unique techs from the AU the Naval Pulse Laser and Lithium Fusion Battery Mk II.  It is primarily fielded by the Sea Fox Clan and the District of Bowang in the Free Worlds League.

New tech found on these threads:

Overview
The splintering of the Sea Fox Clan into Khanates, essentially trading
and defence fleets built around entire Galaxies of troops and stars of WarShips
brought massive profits for the Sea Fox Clan.  Agreements with every Inner
Sphere nation and Clan allowed the Clan's ships to travel almost unhindered
within throughout the nations of humanity with only the Clan Homeworlds closed
to them.
Unfortunately it also divided their strength and with primarily ArcShips
and cargo carrying ships dominating their naval strength the Clan also faced
the fact that their strength was much diluted.  In an effort to counter this
the Aumakua was designed and built in the Clipperton system with the
co-operation with the District of Bowang of the Free Worlds League in an effort
to bolster their strength.

Capabilities
As a nod to the last time that the Foxes operated pure warships the
new class was named after the Shark sea guardians from Hawaiian mythology, the
Aumakua.  Coming in at 530,000 tons the ship isn't designed to fight off battle
ships but to work with assault ships and protect the highly valuable ArcShips
operated by the Clan.
The vessel is also capable of four gravities of acceleration the ship
also has two gravity decks for the crew for use when the ship is not under
acceleration.  The ship is also wrapped in almost six hundred tonnes of the
most advanced composite armours available in the Inner Sphere to help the
vessel survive any combat that it might come across.  Initially the Clipperton
engineers wanted to have the armour equal on every side but the Sea Fox
engineers said if they were to do such a thing they may as well just make
a brick.  Instead the armour is primarily mounted forwards to protect the
ship during its engagements.
The first Aumakua only had a single Heavy Naval Particle Cannon up
front but subsquent ships were built with two of the weapons providing the
ship with a primary engagement weapon.  Initially the first design of the
class carried twelve NL45 Capital Lasers to support these weapons but follow
on ships had these replaced to showcase a relitively new weapons technology
the Naval Pulse Laser.  Although capable of shorter ranges the weapons are
more accurate.  For closer capital engagements the ship carrier eighteen
class 20 Naval Autocannons these are intended on protecting the ship's flanks
and knocking out enemy DropShips.  While balanced the weapons are more geered
for a front facing battle.
Backing up this naval armament are an array of conventional large
lasers and long range missile launchers with defence provided by forty anti-
missile systems.  The ship also carries a binary of aerospace fighters, four
small craft, an entire star of Battle Armour equipped Elemental Marines and
has the facility to carry two DropShips between star systems.
Finally another showcase of technology the ship carries a Lithium
Fusion Battery Mark II allowing the ship to make three full jumps when the
battery and KF Drives are fully charged allowing the ship to rapidly move
between engagement zones.  This strategic flexibility comes at a price
with the ship only able to carry a little over eighteen thousand tons of
cargo but for the Sea Foxes this isn't seen as an issue as the ship is
designed to operate closely with the Clan's cargo fleets.

Deployment
Production of the Aumakua has so far been kept exclusively at the
Clipperton Shipyards in the system of the same name with half of the
production going to the District of Bowang and half to Clan Sea Fox.  Clan
Sea Fox also provide the District with assistance in maintaining its small
fleet of ships in exchange for trading rights throught the area and
resources.
Several other Clans and the Unity Shipyards at Tukayyid have tried
to gain control over production rights for the class but so far they have
been unable.

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

Very interesting design,  do you know if suppose to be based on existing ship or what art work maybe using it?
