Overview
In the early 3020s New Earth Trading Company designed a diplomatic JumpShip, by the 3050s and the entrance of the Clans this vessel had evolved into a WarShip. Unfortunately for New Earth Trading they had no way of building this vessel and the project was shelved.
In late 3058 this changed as ComStar was thrown out of the Terran system. With the Inner Sphere reforming the Star League and ComStar joining as an auxiliary to the newly formed SLDF the ComStar First Circuit noticed the need for Diplomatic vessels, however they also noticed the need for a vessel that could defend itself.
ComStar’s long ties with New Earth Trading Company (NETC) allowed them access to their records and the Diplomatic Escort Vessel was found safe and well. ComStar bought the vessel design and at the Ross 248 Anchorage the first two vessels were built inside the Dover, the Faslane-class vessel docked there, Dubbed the Artemis-class ComStar kept one vessel for themselves and sold the other to the SLDF.
Capabilities
One of the smallest WarShip hulls ever built at one hundred thousand tons the vessel is built with speed as its best asset the Artemis-class Diplomatic Escort can reach a top speed of 5.5Gs for brief periods and a cruising speed of 3.5Gs making it the swiftest WarShip ever constructed. It is easily as fast as most DropShips and can out maneuver most other space borne ships the crews of the Artemis-class are often former Assault DropShip crew by necessity due to the high acceleration factors. The vessel also mounts ninety-two tons of Lamellor Ferro-Carbide armour giving it a hide as thick as some Star League-era Corvettes twice its size. The vessel also carries nearly two thousand tons of fuel and cargo
For crew comforts every single officer, crewman and gunner is afforded single occupancy quarters normally reserved for commanders and executive officers of WarShips and a ninety metre gravity deck provides the crew with a gym and a briefing room. Additionally ten First-class Occupancy Quarters have been added for a diplomat and his immediate staff.
Offensively the Artemis-class Diplomatic Escort Vessel carries what is possibly the smallest offensive armament of any WarShip ever constructed - only three capital weapons. Two forward mounted Class-45 Naval Lasers and a single aft mounted Class-35 Naval Laser round out the naval weapons. While defensively the WarShip carries a mix of pulse lasers of various size, several medium calibre LB-class Autocannons and four-tube Streak Short Range Missile Launchers. For missile point defence the Artemis-class Diplomatic Escort Vessel has Anti-Missile Systems evenly spaced around the hull of the vessel.
The WarShip also carries a ComStar run HPG array giving the vessel’s crew constant contact with the entire Inner Sphere, finally the WarShip has a single DropShip docking collar, which is normally reserved for the diplomats personal DropShip, and two small craft, often a pair of Lyran-built LC-100 Astrolux Staryachts.
Deployment
The first of this class the SLS Unity City, named after the Star League’s Capital City on Terra, was launched in 3060 just after the end/return of the forces involved in Operations Bulldog and Serpent. The vessel was sold by ComStar directly to the Star League with ten percent of the money sent to the NETC as part of the initial deal. ComStar kept the second vessel, Terra, for its own diplomatic vessel it also serving as a symbol for ComStar's desire to return to Terra.
With ComStar embroiled in CASE WHITE (The Battle for control over Terra) it is unknown when and if more Artemis will be built. The Hilton Head joined the Ghost Bear Dominion navy when the Free Rasalhague Republic was absorbed by the Dominion the vessels current whereabouts are unknown. The SLS Unity City was destroyed in 3068 in the Chaos March by [BREAK: corrupted by the heritic Focht] forces during an attempted assassination against First Lord Victor Steiner-Davion. The Terra escorted Precentor-Martial Anastasius Focht to Terra but its fate is unknown at present.

Development:
The Artemis Scout WarShip was developed by the Draconis Combine following
their receipt of the unconvincing Artemis-class Diplomatic Escort Vessel from ComStar.
The Combine had no use for the vessel and instead sent it to Dieron where it
languished for nearly fifteen years.
A series of designers came into the project and then were reassigned as no-one
could find a use for the craft until finally designer Georgiy Mayorov originally from
Halstead Station suggested that they turn the ship into a scout craft capable of
jumping into a solar system then using its massive engines to "run" past any enemy
ship it encountered. Even the fastest DropShip would struggle to keep up with the
ship and those that could would further struggle to match its firepower. If the ship
encountered a serious threat the LF Battery would allow the ship to escape. Finally
a series of mine launchers were added to the ships aft section allowing the ship to set
up a dense mine field deadly to any enemy vessel.
