Mississippi-class Battleship
« on: June 06, 2016, 09:57:41 PM »

This is the Mississippi-class from my AU it's based on one of the Texas II variants that have cropped up on either her or OBT over the last while.  I'll be honest when I say I can't be sure which one it is since I can't find at the moment but my thanks to the original designer.  Modifications done by hand but I'm pretty sure they are right.

Note the unit uses Screen Launchers a tech that has been adopted by the Clans in my AU.

Overview
The Mississippi-class is based on the SLS Mississippi which itself was an
advanced variant of the Texas-class developed in the later years of the Star
League-era.  The SLS Mississippi was the last of her kind to survive the
Amaris Conflict traveling with the Exodus fleet to the Pentagon Worlds.
Aleksandr Kerensky saw the Mississippi for what she was, a bringer of war,
and ordered the Battleship mothballed soon after their arrival.  During the
Star League Civil War SLDF and Rebel forces fought over the vessel eventually
detonating a nuclear weapon on board the craft.

When Clan Coyote looked for a new ship to lead their navy records of the
Mississippi were used to develop a new class of WarShip which the Coyotes
named the Mississippi-class in honour of the SLDF vessel.

Capabilities
At it's heart, the Mississippi-class remains a Texas.  Both ships mass
1,560,000 tons; both use three Rolls Royce Kraken engines to generate a
standard acceleration of 1.5-g's (emergency flank of 2.5-g's).  Both
ships use the same Central Computer Core (the Communal XXX designed by
the Nirasaki Computers Collective) and electronics (Pathfinder 43CD
comm-array and MORSAT targeting & tracking system).  Each carries six
docking collars as well.

Unlike the Texas-class which had no weapons in their Fore or Aft arcs
and had a massive 301,671 ton cargo bay the Mississippi-class has
significantly more firepower including many new technologies.  The
first addition the Coyote designers included was a Mark II Lithium
Fusion Battery allowing the ship to make additional jumps.  The Clan
designers went on to include Clan grade Lamellor Ferro-carbide armour
and a hyper pulse generator allowing the ship to coordinate strikes
between systems and maintain contact with the Clan's command.

Designed for modern combat the Mississippi-class is designed to
destroy its enemies at the longest possible ranges with every weapon
capable of reaching their targets.  At the core of this array are
fifty-four Omnicron-45 Naval Lasers, twelve Sunspot-3L Heavy NPPC,
four Hell's Horses designed Repeating Naval Gauss Rifles and twenty
Killer Whale Capital Missile launchers.

Defending the Mississippi-class are twenty-four of the Coyote's home
developed Piranha sub-capital missile launchers for anti-fighter and
DropShip firepower, thirty-three imported Beamsplitter Laser
Anti-Missile systems and six recently developed Falcon's Own Screen
Launchers based on the technology first developed in the Inner Sphere.

Finally lacking in conventional weapons of its own the Mississippi
class uses its fifty aerospace fighters and twenty small craft for
fighter defence.  While three hundred Elementals trained as marines
defend the craft and are used for boarding actions.

Deployment
Unable to built this WarShip themselves the Coyotes entered into a
contract with the Jade Falcons to build the craft.  Built at the Dark
Nebula the first two ships were delivered in late 3103 joining the
Coyote and Jade Falcon Clans.

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

I see you have repeating NGauss in your AU too - what did your playtesters think of them?

I've only really tested them once or twice with a friend seemed to work but the most experience I've had with them is the fluff side there as much a story piece
