Kharon AuCol (AU With Thanks)
« on: February 25, 2023, 08:48:55 PM »

This design is from my AU and it is based on the design found in Maingunnery's XTRO Society which is at this link:

https://bg.battletech.com/forums/fan-fiction/fan-xtro-the-society/

This Mech wouldn't exist without the inspiration from that XTRO.

Kharon AuCol
 3118 IS Heavy

Source: My Own Custom /
Type/Model: Kharon AuCol
Tech: Inner Sphere / 3118
Config: Biped BattleMech
Rules: Level 2, Standard design

Mass: 70 tons
Chassis:
Power Plant: 280 Fusion
Walking Speed: 43.2 km/h
Running Speed: 64.8 km/h
Armour Type: Standard
Armament:
 1 Guardian ECM Suite
 1 Large Laser
 1 Plasma Rifle
 1 LRM 15
 1 Medium Laser
 1 Medium Pulse Laser
Manufacturer: Maderia BattleMech Factory
 Location: Guldra, Aurigan Collective
Communications System: Neil 9000-A
Targeting and Tracking System: Octagon Tartrac System C

Description
The Kharon AuCol model is a product of Clan Mountain Wolf’s Kharon BattleMech and the technology the Aurigan Collective had available. When MechWarrior Anthony Wolf and Marcela of the Wolf’s Scientist Caste abandoned Clan Mountain Wolf and fled across the Inner Sphere Marcela stole a copy of the Kharon’s schematics. These schematics had been built using Clan technology and it took several years of reverse engineering to get the BattleMech built using local technology.

Capabilities
The periphery Kharon AuCol is as heavy as the Clan made model coming in at 70 tons. The BattleMech is built on an Aurigan Collective designed Endo Steel frame but unlike the Clan model the periphery nation were unable to built an Extra Light engine resulting in the BattleMech being slower with a top speed of 64kph. Likewise, while Double Heat Sinks were available for the BattleMech the Aurigan Collective was forced to use standard armour instead of the Ferro Fibrous armour of the Mountain Wolf design.
The AuCol model of the Kharon is armed with a left arm mounted large laser and plasma rifle, a right arm mounted medium laser and medium pulse laser while a long range missile rack allows the BattleMech to provide direct and indirect support. Finally, a Guardian ECM suite gives the pilot tactical options on the field and CASE protects the BattleMech.

Deployment
First constructed in 3119 the Kharon AuCol is now being mass produced in the Aurigan Collective at the Maderia BattleMech factory on Guldra. Every regiment in the Aurigan Collective is slated to receive an entire companies worth of this type of BattleMech.

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

This is the first mass produced factory variant of the Kharon. While there will be many Mechs that are able to add advanced weaponry the factory isn't able to mass produce them just yet. A year on and the chassis devolves a bit

Kharon AuColP
 3119 IS Heavy

Source: My Own Custom /
Type/Model: Kharon AuColP
Tech: Inner Sphere / 3119
Config: Biped BattleMech
Rules: Level 3, Advanced design

Mass: 70 tons
Chassis:
Power Plant: 280 Fusion
Walking Speed: 43.2 km/h
Running Speed: 64.8 km/h
Armour Type: Standard
Armament:
 2 Machine Gun
 1 LRM 15
 1 Large Laser
 1 PPC
 6 Rocket Launcher 10 (OS)
Manufacturer: Maderia BattleMech Factory
 Location: Guldra, Aurigan Collective
Communications System: Neil 9000-A
Targeting and Tracking System: Octagon Tartrac System C with Guardian ECM

BattleMech Variant:
While there are dozens of field refits of the Kharon this is the only factory developed model built in the Aurigan Collective in 3119. This variant came around following a terrorist attack which destroyed the Collective’s one domestic producer of the Plasma Rifle. Other than increasing the armour by a half ton and retaining the ECM Suite the “Periphery” variant as it became known retains the rest of the base variant of the BattleMech while changing several weapons.
The design replaces the Plasma Rifle is replaced with a Particle Projection Cannon providing further medium ranged firepower alongside the large laser on the right arm, the PPC sliding into the Plasma Rifle’s spot just off the right shoulder. Likewise the fifteen-tube long range missile launcher is retained for long range firepower. The left arm is completely is however completely changed the secondary lasers are removed completely and replaced by a pair of machine guns for anti-personnel work. Beside these two machine guns are six ten-tube Rocket Launchers which are attached to the arm in three “bolt-on” double packs one above and one below the BattleMech’s wrist while the third sticks out of the arm. Like many of the field refit models of the Kharon these are designed to be easily reloaded on the outskirts of the Collective and in the neighbouring states which have traded for the Mech.
Against Inner Sphere opponents the Kharon can find itself undergunned at range with only the long-range missiles for firepower, but at medium and close ranges the additional firepower provided by the rocket launchers can be devastating in an opening attack.

Deployment
Following the factory bombing the original variant of the Kharon continues but at a much slower pace, as deliveries are slowed coming out of the Capellan Confederation. Several variants are built in an attempt to keep the chassis rolling out with some walking from the factory with pairs of large lasers, particle cannons or even experimental variants with autocannons. When the AuColP model is first rolled out it becomes the standard model of the Mech while the original makes up approximately 1/6th of the production numbers.

Finally a further jump five years into the future of my AU the Kharon will see a second factory refit appear the Advanced Model

Kharon AuColA
 3124 IS Heavy

Source: My Own Custom /
Type/Model: Kharon AuColA
Tech: Mixed Tech / 3124
Config: Biped BattleMech
Rules: Level 4, Experimental design

Mass: 70 tons
Chassis: (IS)
Power Plant: 280 Fusion
Walking Speed: 43.2 km/h
Running Speed: 64.8 km/h
Armor Type: (IS) Standard
Armament:
 1 ER Large Laser (IS)
 1 Plasma Cannon (C)
 1 ER Medium Laser (IS)
3 Rocket Launcher 10 (OS) (IS)
 1 MRM 40 w/Apollo (IS)
Manufacturer: Maderia BattleMech Factory
 Location: Guldra, Aurigan Collective
Communications System: Neil 9000-A
Targeting and Tracking System: Octagon Tartrac System C with Guardian ECM

BattleMech Variant:
While there were dozens of field refits done to the Aurigan Collective’s Kharon the second factory refit came in 3124 after successful breakthroughs by Aurigan Collective scientists and trade deals signed by the leadership on Guldra. The breakthrough was a boon for the entire periphery nation from studying the original Kharon’s equipment they were able to reverse engineer the Extended Range Large Laser essentially replicating the Inner Sphere techbase version of the weapon. In turn they were also able to apply this to Extended Range Medium Laser technology further increasing the nation’s weapon potential. Three of the six rocket launchers from the “Periphery” module remain on this BattleMech further increasing its firepower in a one off encounter.
The other changes to the Kharon were brought on by trade deals the first came through the acquisition of Medium Range Missile Technology and Apollo Fire Control Systems. These weapons systems while similar to the rocket launcher tech already available to the Collective offered greater guidance and the ability to carry greater ammunition reserves. Deciding to mount the largest of all of the weapons systems the engineers this resulted in a huge redesign of the Mech’s torso section to accommodate the weapon giving it a much bulkier appearance as four rows of ten missile tubes are mounted vertically along the torso. The next change came with the inclusion of a Clan-made Plasma Cannon which replaced the original BattleMech’s Plasma Rifle after an agreement with Clan Sea Fox in exchange for resource rights on Guldra. Because of the build quality of the large laser (based off Clan tech) it is a very accurate weapon

Deployment
The Advanced model is seen by many MechWarriors as an example of "new toy syndrome" instead preferring one of the original variants of the Mech but replacing the large laser with the new laser and an additional heat sink, the Plasma Cannon is seen as a poor replacement for the Plasma Rifle as it only damages targets with heat causing no physical damage. Maderia BattleMechs marketing campaign features the new variant heavily in advertisements in an attempt to boost its sales but many MechWarriors just find the additional "fame" of the design distracting.
