Vanguard F302/302A
« on: May 12, 2011, 05:20:14 PM »

JA Baker created this over on the CBT forum and I shamelessly stole it have an upgrade I'll also post

    2 Blankenburg Technologies Medium Pulse Lasers
Manufacturer:   Nock Heavy Engineering Inc.
  Location:     New Avalon
Communications System:  O/P 9000AT
Targeting & Tracking System:  Wunderland XXXV-1 series w. Artemis IV FCS
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
     Following on from the MiG-29 Mikoyan, Nock Heavy Engineering Inc. decided
to try and create an Aerospace Fighter at their new in-house aeronautics
division. Two years of R&D, including many setbacks (including the crash of
the first prototype, killing the pilot), help from the New Avalon Institute of
Science (who wanted to test some new equipment) allowed the first F-302
Vanguard heavy fighter to roll out of the hanger.

==Capabilities:==
     A flying wing, based somewhat loosely on Shilone, the Vanguard carries a
pair of nose-mounted Coventry Five-Tube LRM racks with Artemis IV Fire Control
Systems for improved accuracy. Slung under each wing is a Mydron Excel LB 10-X
Autocannon fed from a central CASE protected magazine that can hold a mixture
of slug and fragmentation rounds, depending on the missions. The rear arc is
protected by a pair of Blankenburg Technologies Medium Pulse Lasers, while the
entire fighter is encased in 11.5-tons of StarGuard CIV Ferro-aluminum
armour.
     One of the most interesting features is not part of the fighter itself,
but the Vanguard is the first fighter to use it: the pilot's flight suite has
actuators in the arms and legs that act as a miniature exoskeleton. This
reduces the affect high g-forces have on the pilot. It is yet to be proven
just how effective this system is under combat conditions.

==Notable Vessels & Crews:==
Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell, 1st Tactical Fighter Wing
     Assigned to the DropShip Daedalus, Lt. Col. Mitchell was the first
serving AFFC officer to volunteer to test-pilot the Vanguard. A veteran of the
Clan War, Mitchell was awarded the Medal Excalibur for his part in the
fighting above Huntress while part of Task Force Serpent.

==Deployment==
      Only a handful of F-302's have been built to date; most are being tested
by units assigned to the defence of New Avalon. Two have been sent to the New
Avalon Institute of Science for additional research into the improved
flight-suit design.

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

Possibly a connection exists in the name and possibly the fluff but that is purely coincidental  ::) ;D
