Overview
The Vincent Mk.45-class Escort Carrier was originally commissioned in the early 27th Century by the original Star League as an attempt to close a perceived "Carrier Gap" between the SLDF and the independent militaries of the Hegemony's neighbouring Member-States. Because the SLDF had to-date mainly relied on fragile DropShip platforms to deploy large numbers of aerospace fighters, these platforms were tied either to similarly fragile and near-immobile JumpShip transports or to larger fleet vessels with the ability to transport DropShips. Though the SLDF had no excess of fleet fighters over what could already be carried by large cruiser squadrons and battle-groups, the admiralty nevertheless entertained the refit of several Vincent-class vessels to a new "Escort Carrier" specification, intending its use as a commerce protector or fleet auxiliary in cases where Titan-class and other such carrier DropShips might be unavailable.
In 3076 the Reborn Star League retrofitted two Vincent-class WarShip wrecks and turned them into the mk.31 giving the Star League some much needed extra firepower and fighter support.  The so called 'Pocket Carrier' which would act in all fleet actions.

Capabilities
In the Mk.45 like the previous Mk.31 specification, the Vincent is retrofitted with a pair of large Hangar Pods. Located to the port and starboard of the existing frame, these are grafted into the main structure through the modular ports intended for primary broadside weaponry. Each eight-thousand ton Pod supports self-contained launch, recovery, support, and storage facilities for an SLDF fighter wing that would look familiar to anyone who had seen a Titan-class DropShip.  Highlights of these facilities include two independent launch/recovery tubes, an independent Combat Information Centre, spacious quarters for squadron personnel and support staff, a two thousand ton fuel tank intended for on-board and in-flight refuelling of the embarked fighters, and a spacious magazine for internal and external ordinance.
Notably, the addition of these pods required the complete removal of the Vincent's broadside capital weaponry, however as the two wrecks the Star League had in 3076 these were heavily damaged and lacked the capital weaponry anyway.  Other modifications include the addition of several anti-fighter weaponry blisters and a significant improvement in armour.
Also significant is the addition of a large radiator array in the dorsal and ventral mission equipment bays. This was intended to allow the Mark 31 to engage its several guns in anti-fighter missions continuously for long periods, as fighter craft were expected to form the primary threat to a vessel used at standoff range to support fighter operations. Because of the large number of conventional weapon blisters, the Mark 40 specification added two full modular decks of crew quarters to accommodate additional gunners.
To increase the vessel’s survivability the vessel has been given several Anti-missile systems in each arc to cut down on the amount of missile fire able to strike the vessel.

Deployment
The two converted Vincent Mk.40 Pocket Carriers were split up between the two active Star League Naval Squadrons providing fighter support for the other active vessels.

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.
