Precentor Chase, scowling, answers the Davion:

"Ambassador Davion, your views regarding ComStar are of no consequence, however, I would ask: Does the Federated Suns publicise all its interactions with mercenaries to other powers, of is the Fox willing to share the transcripts of his inner circle?

Should he be willing to do so, I am sure the First Circuit would respond appropriately."

"We recognize the new Anti-Spinward union and welcome it to the interstellar scene. There are some matters we would like to discuss at a later date and time with your nation." Ambassador Holstein remarked, a smile crossing his face.

Perhaps things will be more stable on their side of the border, god I hope so.

"I would be honored to meet with you Ambassador.  Please do not hesitate to set an appointment for your earliest convenience."

The Marian ambassador, as offensive as ever, sizes up the new delegate:

"Perhaps you can ask the Lyrans for Andrion back?"

A woman dressed in formal attire of black and gold approaches the podium and bows to the assembly.   "Good day, I am Ebba Sparre and I formally announce the creation of the Anti-Spinward Union, which I have the honor to represent as Ambassador-at-Large.  The interstellar polities of the Lothian League, Circinus Federation and Illyrian Palatinate have determined these trying times represent a significant challenge to their continued economic, political and social development.  Thus, they have confederated their realms into a Union founded on the principles of liberty, democracy, respect for human rights, fundamental freedoms, and the rule of law, principles which are common to the original Member States."

She then presents her credentials to Precentor Chase.  During this time, the banners of the Lothian League, Circinus Federation and Illyrian Palatinate are solemnly furled and a new flag, a Gold Cross of Saint George upon a Field of Black, with three Gold four pointed Stars in the Canton is displayed in the area previously occupied by the Lothian League.  She returns to the podium and continues.  "We have established a new capital, named Union, located at coordinates -438.160 -163.973.  I hereby invite all nation states desiring peaceful relations with the Anti-Spinward Union to send their accredited diplomatic representatives to our new government seat and establish embassies there.  We extend the hand of friendship to all and look forward to negotiating treaties of commercial and scientific nature with any interested party.  Thank you."

She bows again and returns to her seat under the new flag.

The small pad in front of Yadav beeped to life. It flashed an incoming message, which Sonja quickly read. While he was momentarily distracted by the Concordat's questioning and the growing sense of unease coming from the ComStar Precentor, Yadav asked to be recognized.

The response gets a smile from Davion.

"Precentor, if you consider my remarks more carefully you will find that I was making that exact point. We have secrets, you have secrets and none of us are going to parade them here in front of neighbours we don't trust."

"I have been authorized to inform the Council of Geneva the following information in light of the League's recent domestic problems."

The Captain-General has communicated the following information to the Magistracy of Canopus:
Should the Magestrix withdrawal from the peaceful Free Worlds League planets she has ruthlessly and suddenly conquered, return to her pre-invasion border, and severe her alliance with the illegal secessionists of the Andurien Province the Magistracy of Canopus will not see any reprisals from the Free Worlds League or any of her provinces. Furthermore, if the Magestrix is hungry for new planets she would find a willing partner in the Free Worlds League to help settle and exploit the resources of new worlds in the region. It is the desire of the Captain-General to save both of our people unnecessary bloodshed, nor perpetuate a new cycle of violence with our Periphery neighbor.

"At this time the Free Worlds League has yet to hear a response from Magestrix Centrella or any Canopian official, but we are hopeful for a peaceful resolution."

Turning to the Marian Ambassador

It seems the guns are ready to fire.

The Marian turns to the Taurian:

"Quite. And we have front row seats too."

"Perhaps you can ask the Lyrans for Andrion back?"

“We could, but the point of holding a plebiscite is to ascertain the wishes of the populace, not the privileged few.  The people of Andrion chose to join the Lyran Commonwealth voluntarily.  While I believe that was an error, it was their choice.  I am certain that in the next few years they will see their mistake and peacefully petition to reverse the process.  At that time, I am confident the Estates General will endorse their choice to return to the Anti-Spinward Union.”

"We have finally received word from the Magistracy of Canopus. Apparently there was so sort of communications problem that delayed the Magestrix's response. While we believe the mistake was accidental, in light of her response to our peace proposal and her delay – we believe it was intentional."

From the Magestrix:

Captain-General,

We are writing on behalf of the Federal Republic of Andurien and Canopus, as the new Federal body governing our realm.  We intend to not only reclaim that which has been lost to us through the actions of the Free worlds League during the Reunification War and the tenants of Camlann v. Free Worlds, we intend to punish the Free Worlds League and your own House of Marik as well, for the many injuries we have been dealt by your people’s hands.

For too long, we have suffered under the shadow of the eagle’s claws, but today we strike back and claim the mantle of a great state.  You can either withdraw your forces behind a line from Campoleone, to Keeling to Anegesaki, or face the full might of our armed forces.

If you wish to discuss the matter further, we will address it with you when our troops land on Atreus.

Emma Centrella and Richard Humphries
Presidents Regent for the Federal Republic of Andurien and Canopus

"There now officially exists a state of war between the Free Worlds League and the Magistracy of Canopus for her unauthorized invasion of the Free Worlds League and her refusal to peacefully withdrawal from our territory.

It was the Captain-General's wish that the Magestrix would learn from our recent example and cease her senseless acts of violence. Sadly, more innocent blood will be shed in stopping this mad woman. We only hope the Canopian people can forgive the poor judgment of their leader."

Ambassador Holstein winced involuntarily at the vehemence of the FRACAS note and cleared his throat before delivering his remarks.

"All I can say to this current diplomatic note is that before we broke off relations with FRACAS, we advised them to seek terms, such a response suggests they are not interested. Furthermore, suggesting they will reach Atreus is foolish at best. The Lyran Commonwealth continues to call upon FRACAS to make a serious proposal for peace talks in this matter, but we believe that matters have probably gone too far. We therefore ask for a censure against FRACAS for a failure to even approach the League for some kind of diplomatic solution, and worse, to trot out centuries old claims the likes of which noone is around to remember, let alone certainly appreciate!"
