The Lyran Commonwealth and the Capellan Confederation have signed a mutual defense treaty as of July of 3030, the signing ceremony was held on New Kyoto on the 29th of July. This treaty specifies that an attack on either shall be construed as an attack on both of the signatories and shall result in a declaration of war by both nations and a coordinated campaign by our combined forces to destroy the aggressor. Should either party commence hostilities themselves, the other nation is under no obligation to intervene.

"Let our intent be clear, if you do not attack one of our worlds, you are safe from war with us. However, any invader shall be met with a fierce and devastating response."

-The formal statement of the Capellan Foreign Minister upon the signing of the treaty

One more step on the road to the ConFederated Commonwealth...
The TH and the FWL will not like this.

  • Trying my best.

Many peoples in the Inner Sphere mourn the passing away of the once mighty Kapteyn Alliance. Who will stop the warmongers now?

-Anonymous

END (Start) of 3031:

Analysts say that while at the surface this seems like a major shift in politics for the Confederation, it can be seen as another logical step when looking at the alleged settlement between Sianand more importantly the coordinated actions with the Federated Suns against the Terran Hegemony in the 4th War. As Federated Suns and Lyran Commonwealth remain allied, the addition of the Capellan Confederation could be a major obstacle should the Terran Hegemony try anything adventurous.
Also, the already cold relationships between Sian and Luthien are now officially dead. If the clique around the usurper Isoroku Kurita tries anything against their old enemies, the Combine would likely suffer for it. It is expected that the aggression of the Combine Military is looking for an outlet elsewhere to keep their faces.

One would be most interested in seeing House Davion's true reaction to this treaty.

You know there is something wrong with the FWL, when Word's spell check changes Impavido to Impetigo and Zechetinu to Secretion.

  • Chancellor of the Confederation

Ambassador Han reads the following statement from the Chancellor.  "So there is no doubt in anyone's mind let me be clear, this treaty has no bearing on a possible war between the Federated Suns and the Capellan Confederation.  In the unlikely event of a renewal of hostilities between the FS and CC the Lyran Commonwealth is under no obligation to side with the Confederation.  This treaty simply puts others on notice that attacks against the CC and LC will be a very risky endeavor."

Would the treaty cover the opening of the Cappellan market to Lyran traders?  And vice versa?    This could mean a new age for the Lyran Economy!

This will go some way to improving trade relations between the two realms.

The Federated Suns view this treaty as one that reduces that chances of a resumption of the Succession Wars. In light of the potentially destabilising situation in the Draconis Combine, this is overall a positive step.

Our first big step towards PeaceTech.

*Sneaks up behind the Leader of the Star League and stabs him with Tanto, shoots him with a Mauser & Grey pist in the head and then with a Federated-Barrett Assault rifle to the torso. Once the Leader appears to be dead, he drops a note written in Mandarin on a piece of stationery with the personal letterhead of the FWL Captain-General.*

Well it substantially reduces the chances of being jumped by the Capellans if I'm invading the Draconis Combine or something.

Or perhaps an invasion of the FWL would unite both realms physically, creating the Confederated Commonwealth...

Neither the Hegemony or the Combine could possibly accept that, particularly as so much of the FWL industry is wedged in where the LC and CC are closest.

If they want to try they may find they've bitten off more than they can chew.
