The OurBattleTech Forum Fleet

This was originally jklantern's idea on the BT forum.

Basically, the idea is pick ONE Warship Class (or Jumpship, or Dropship, I'm not picky), and give it a name (and a suitably silly backstory if you wish).  Eventually, we will have a forum fleet, right?

here's my entry feel free to add anything canon-non-canon.  As entries are added I'll add them to the Fleet listings.

Star Commodore Canin Rosse (Dragon Cat) Liger/Extinction Event (Anna Rosse-class Battle-cruiser)

During the Jihad Clan Nova Cat commited a large amount of its touman including its full naval resources to Devlin Stone and his Coalition forces in their fight against the Word of Blake.  These forces served with distinction with the Coalition participating in a string of assaults which eventually led to the destruction of the Word of Blake.  Before that however Khan Santin West foresaw a problem for his Clan with all their WarShips fighting the Word of Blake the Nova Cats would be defended by the Draconis Combine and little else.  Instead of allowing this he turned to Star Captain Canin Rosse of the Nova Cat Watch.  Rosse had been one of the first pilots of the Wight Dezgra model of BattleMech and cared little for his own honour however even Rosse was surprised at Santin West's command.

Assigned command of an Invader-class JumpShip with three DropShips full of techs and crewmen culled from the various WarShips of the Nova Cat fleet Canin Rosse led his people wider than the Exodus Road back to the Clan Homeworlds marking the first Nova Cat return to the Homeworlds.  Instead of heading to any of the planet's the single Invader entered one of the Clan's WarShip Caches finding a relitively intact Avatar-class Cruiser.  Abandoning their JumpShip the three DropShips boarded the Liberator and began to restore the ship to functionality.  Working around the clock for eight days straight the Nova Cats listened as the Homeworlds around them were sucked into the Wars of Reaving.

With their WarShip barely operational the Nova Cats moved their craft clear of the cache only to encounter two Bandit Caste JumpShips at the jump point.  Scrambling to get the weapons working the Nova Cats destroyed both JumpShips but not before their WarShip was boarded by members of the bandit caste.  The fighting on-board was brutal continuing for nearly six hours as the two sides engaged in hand to hand combat.  Canin Rosse took his Wight BattleMech along the external hull of the WarShip picking off the bandit caste boarding craft as his people fought off invaders inside allowing the Avatar-class vessel to jump.

With the existing damage caused to the Avatar and the need to avoid Clan patrols the Avatar's journey took nearly two years to return to the Inner Sphere.  During this the crew converted the gravity deck into a food production area and named the vessel the Liger.  Arriving in the Inner Sphere in 3074 the vessel covertly communicated with Khan West who ordered them not to reveal themselves to any Nova Cat or Draconis Combine authority instead he directed them to the Chainelane Isle and to fight a trial with Clan Diamond Shark for use of their shipyard facilities.

There following Canin Rosse's victory against the Diamond Sharks the techs helped modify the vessel into a new class known as the Anna Rosse-class Battle-cruiser replacing the weapons array and armour.  Due to the troubles of the Jihad this process took nearly seven years.  With the Jihad winding down the vessel took up position in the Oort Cloud of the Irece system hidden from view.  Unlike the other WarShips of the fleet the vessel remained with Clan Nova Cat following the formation of the Republic of the Sphere waiting until it was needed.

With the outbreak of the Second Dominion/Combine War the crew of the Liger expected to be called to service but instead they remained hidden following orders from Santin West to wait until they knew they were needed.  With the falling of the Dark Age and the Combine's turning on the remaining Nova Cats the crew knew that their time had come.  Communicating with contacts in the Nova Cats Watch who had remained on the planet's surface Canin Rosse arranged to pick up hundreds of survivors and members of the Watch from Irece before evacuating the Irece Prefecture.

In the Periphery Canin Rosse and his crew realize that they are the last members of Clan Nova Cat.  They have renamed their WarShip Extinction Event to reflect the events they have lived through and have taken to raiding the Rasalhague Dominion and Draconis Combine making them pay for the damage they caused to their Clan while trading with the Sea Foxes for supplies to keep them operational.  Canin Rosse is technically the highest ranking Nova Cat survivor however he has refused to take the title of Khan.  There has been some talk about moving to join the Spirit Cat survivors in the Free Worlds League but their proximity to the Wolves has so far made the Nova Cats oboard wary.

Five of the six DropShip Collars on the Extinction Event are taken up with DropShips holding civilians the sixth has an Overlord-class DropShip which carries their only ground element, the Watch Cluster.  Three stars of aerospace fighter bays support the ship.

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

After the 14th consecutive promotion board declined to select Muttley for promotion, the HR department (AKA Repple-Depple Command) assigned him to command the Mule-class Magnifico.  With a crew selected for the same level of expertise and accomplishments, the Magnifico shuttles from tedium to boredom and back, with an occasional side trip through the Monotony System.

The Magnifico is well known for delivering heaters and winter uniforms in March and air-conditioner units and summer uniforms in November.   The eleven times the loadmaster has issued carbon paper instead of toilet paper have led to several unfortunate friendly-fire incidents.  The delivery of a mixed cargo of expired rations and body bags to a remote outpost was actually a mistake at Quartermaster Command but no-one at all believes that story.

The tale of the recovered WarShip Tony Manero is an exercise in serendipity.  Originally constructed by the pre-Reunification War Taurian Concordat, this 770,000-ton Cruiser was one-of-a-kind.  More specifically, the TCN quickly came to view this ship as a boondoggle and cancelled all subsequent orders.

Although larger and better protected than existing Winchester-class Cruisers, the high unusual and homogenous armament (consisting of 160 NL-35 naval lasers!!) failed to impress the Taurians.  Considering the expense already sunk into the ship, the disguisted Admirals and Marshals did not even consider filling out the paperwork to send the vessel for scrap.

No records remain of her service during the Reunification Wars (in fact, her original name is lost to history as well).  Indeed, no records of this ship survived the Wars and the Star League Occupation afterwards.  The only evidence of her existence is the accidental discovery of a derelict vessel adrift in barren star system along the Taurian Rim.

In 3066, a scoundrel by the name of Arminas (it is unknown whether this is his first, last, or only name) fleeing Davion authorities in a dilapidated Merchant-class JumpShip choose for his destination the exact jump-point where this derelict rested.

A quick survey revealed that the ship had been opened to vacuum and powered down; apparently abandoned by her crew.

Drawing upon contacts with a number of desperate (yet highly skilled) individuals (including Chief Engineer Irose, Quartermaster Blacknova, and general gopher MechRat), Arminas (now calling himself Master Arminas) managed to get this ship working once again.

Re-christened as Tony Manero (after an ancient legend of a Terran dancer) the ship began a reign of terror along the Taurian Rim, plaguing Concordat, Magistracy, Capellan, Marik, and Davion worlds alike.  Unlike many pirates, the Disco Kings (as this band called themselves) sought out only rare musical albums and gifted (cursed?) singers/dancers for a style of music known as either 'disco' or 'funk'.

Upon learning that the Clans might well possess archives of such rarity, the Disco Kings departed for the Clan Homeworlds in their Cruiser . . . having purchased the route taken by Task Force Serpent.  They have not been heard from since.

The OBS Tesla's Coil began life as the SLS Pioneer where it was found adrift in the outer system of Paran in 2984 by a Comstar Explorer Corps. It's location was reported back to Terra where it was recovered by one of ComGuards Faslane-class, CSS Plymouth. Immediate repairs were made to the K-F drive and the SLS Pioneer returned to the Titan shipyards. A full refit was performed where extensive changes were made to the armament. Precentor Arnold Rimmer chose to switch to a warload made up of Naval PPCs predominantly. The only remaining weapons from the SLS Pioneer are the Naval PPCs, the Medium Naval Gauss Rifles and four of the NAC/20 cannons. All other weapons have been replaced by a variety of Naval PPCs and ten Barracuda missile launchers. In addition to these changes a total of forty-four PPCs and forty-four anti-missile systems as secondary weapons systems. Following the refurbishment, she was christened the CSS Evanescent Light

After the Schism, the CSS Evanescent Light split with Comstar, but did not join with the Word of Blake and chose to strike out on its own. Taking up the life of both Pirate and Mercenary drifting in the Deep Periphery avoiding Comguards and Word of Blake Militia vessels all the while. Captained by self-styled Commodore Lester 'Mad Cat' Katzenberg, the Evanescent Light was renamed Tesla's Coil due to the vast number of Naval PPCs and PPCs mounted in her hull. The crew, however, refer to her as the 'Electric Bugaloo' given how she has evaded all pursuers to date.

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

Inazuma Class "Guardian"

Commanding Officer: Captain Douglas McIntosh
Crew Rating Green Crew Loyalty Fanatical

Perhaps the Lioness Combat Teams best kept secret, aside from their base of operations, is how a merc unit managed to get their hands on a warship, albeit a small one, among their many unique or esoteric items of War.  Painted gold and red the "Guardian" is brought out of it's storage when the entire LCT is deployed at once, and held in reserve in case missions become absolute no win scenarios.  along with it's Aurora Gunships "Horus" "Uranus" and "Izangi" and Aerospace squadron ""the Griffins" establish air and space superiority first and then provide orbital fire support as needed while evacuation occurs.

for a mercenary ship the Guardian is kept in magnificent condition, partially because most of it's time is spent in long term storage, and partially because of it's seven deployments it has seen combat only twice.  The first time was against pirates from Tortuga, clearly looking to board and take the Guardian while it was en route to it's storage facility, the second time was against the Principality of Regulus, who viewed a rogue warship as a potential Blakist threat and acted in their typical manner.  thankfully upgrades to the ships anti fighter weapon systems and point defense modules saved the vessel from multiple nuclear weapons, and the Guardian and it's retinue were able to ward off the Regulan fighters and drop ship.

The Lioness Combat Team has invested significant funds into upgrading the ships anti fighter weaponry.  all Lords Light PPCs and Victory Nickel Alloy ER Large lasers have bee replaced with Series 7NC ER Large Lasers that were purchased from the Barcella Beta Plant on Ireece.  The freed up tonnage went into installing additional Anti Missile Systems and ammunition in each firing arc.  the LCT has also reduced it's Capital Autocannon magazines to 20 rounds per weapon, in exchange for modestly increased cargo capacity.  Combined with the weight savings of the Laser upgrade this brings the cargo capacity to 450 tons.

The OurBattleTech Forum Fleet Listing:

Dragon Cat - Liger/Extinction Event (Anna Rosse-class Battle-cruiser) - CO: Star Commodore Canin Rosse
Muttley – Magnifico (Mule-class Transport DropShip) – CO: Muttley
masterarminas - Tony Manero (Tony Manero-class Cruiser) - CO: Master Arminas
Abele - OBS Tesla's Coil (Modified Avatar-class Cruiser) - CO: Commodore Lester 'Mad Cat' Katzenberg
JPArbiter - Guardian (Inazuma-class Corvette) - CO: Captain Douglas McIntosh

I think we need more ships in this fleet any takers?

One DropShip, JumpShip or WarShip custom or Canon

fluff or no fluff your choice.

Is there a DropShip that you can't go into battle without?

Has your story or unit got an ancient JumpShip that has served you so very well.

Or is there a WarShip design that you are dying to share or have always liked the look of the Aegis and wanted to captain it?

The Fleet NEEDS YOU!!

Give me some time...I can't decide if the Astral Ranger is the best fit or if I should go off the rails with the Happy Fun Chainsaw.  Either way a good dossier needs to be built for each.
