I had an unusual idea for a unit. I'm new to this so be patient and try not to laugh. My basic premise is to create a unit that was thrown together ad hoc in the face of a disastrous campaign. I wanted to do a FWL unit, most likely one from one of Fontaine Marik's worlds, perhaps one lost to the Lyrans. The twist is that most of the unit are military band members with a few other survivors from other units thrown in for variety. For instance, I was thinking of having the unit's aerospace pilot be an officer the band unit freed from the stockade rather than leave him to be killed by the Lyrans or the Wolves. The idea here was for the POW freed be from one of the other Marik realms or maybe Regulus or Andurien. That being the case, I thought it made sense that the band might have also saved an MP from the jail who would quite naturally want to keep a close eye on the prisoner. And I thought if the MP and my unit leader had served together previously, it would better explain why the band went out of their way to save people from the prison as they evacuated.
I haven't come up with a catchy nickname for the unit yet but my initial idea for the insignia is a cartoon Marik eagle with headphones on, holding a musical note in one talon and a baton in the other.
I don't have names, mechs or vehicles picked out yet but I know I wanted to have an old veteran in the unit who lost his hearing (due to injury) and had cybernetic implants. He can hear just fine but he's now tone deaf which drives the other band members crazy.

Make sure that cybernetic hearing replacement is discreet. Them Leaguers don't like no cyber ya hear? Too many bad memories from League history and the Jihad. In fact I believe a League warrior is just as likely to use an ear trumpet or go deaf—rather than resort to a cyber replacement. ;)

wasn't the late Myrnexx's personal merc unit "Melody's Rockers" built around a similar premise?

Amalor Myrnexx is one hell of a painter. Check out CBT in the painted minis section for some of his work. And yes, one of his units is Melody´s Rockers.
