Developed by Clan Hell's Horses in the immediate aftermath of the Truce of Tukkayid and designed in part with assistance from Clan Diamond Shark who would produce the design themselves, the Deimos was supposedly based on the Donar but was heavily inspired by the SLDF's Vector and would serve the same role.
Despite being larger than any other Clan VTOL at 25 tons, the Deimos was fast thanks to its powerful 160 rated XL engine and 4-tons of Ferro-Fibrous armour gave it solid protection for a craft of its type and size. Unlike the Donar or fearsome Yellowjacket, the Deimos was rather lightly armed, with a pair of small pulse lasers and a single ER medium laser as its sole long range weapon. The electronics system though was extensive with an ECM and Active probe all geared towards its role of acting as a fast reaction transport for Elementals of which 5 could be carried in the helo's back.
Unfortunately the suits had to be mounted inside by Technicians with the Elementals climbing into them and 'suiting up' whilst in flight before they were deployed by quick release doors on the helo's sides or more slowly out the tail ramp. Instead of carrying troops to front line positions the Deimos was a head hunter and was seen as a counter to hostile artillery units or spotting positions. Its active probe let it hunt for hidden targets or insurgents and the Elementals could then be quickly deployed to neutralize a target.
Whilst the Hellions, Horses, Scorpions and Cloud Cobras (and to a lesser extent the Sharks) used the Deimos in its intended role, the other Clans that did use them rarely assigned them in their intended role as a Battle Armour transport, seeing them as too vulnerable, or if shot down, then any Elemental's would be cut off behind hostile lines. This saw the Deimos in most cases largely consigned to PGCs where it would serve as an overly expensive Infantry transport or just as a scout which was a gross misuse of its capabilities. THe largest number deployed in the Inner Sphere was by Clan Ghost Bear who used them with PGCs to carry infantry forces in counter insurgency roles. Here a Point of Deimos would often act as a Quick Reaction Force to any trouble from either raiders, dissenters or even local trouble.
