Overview:
In 2504 the Rim Worlds Republic began a program to upgrade its armed forces with new equipment. While there was a strong desire to build up their mech forces, these efforts were slow and so the RWA High Command was forced to compensate for these short comings by expanding the armor corps. The Athena Main Battle Tank was designed to be the backbone of the RWA’s armored battalions. Following a series of very successful tests with the prototypes of the Athena, the design was ordered into mass production.
Capabilities:
The Athena is considered to be a fairly standard Main Battle Tank. Unremarkable, the Athena combines reasonable speed, decent armor and enough firepower to pose a threat to enemy tanks and mechs. The Athena is notable for its excellent mobility. The well designed suspension system allows the Athena to traverse terrain that many other tanks find impassable.
Rim World tank crews would use this superior mobility to out flank enemy formations and hit them with massed fire from the Athena’s power Republic Mk VII Autocannon. One of the more interesting design decisions was the placement of a flamer on the front of the tank. During combat this would often be used to clear out enemy fortifications
Deployment:
The Athena could be found in almost every RWA regiment. The tank was on the front lines of the fighting during the Reunification War and suffered some of the heaviest losses of any Rim Worlds unit. With the end of hostilities, the Athena remained in production and was used to rebuild the RWA.

Very Rommel/Patton like. Very nice!
Will there be an assault tank in our future??
-
I hadn't planned on an assault tank but I do have another 3 RWR AFVs coming.

How about long ranged (LRM) sloth (3/5) 80 ton tank and a fast (hovertank) 50 ton with a big punch (AC/20)? ;)

I do have an 80 fire support tank that I am doing and you could modify the Alexander to pack and AC/20 by removing the SRM launcher...
