Overview
Following the introduction of the Athena Main Battle Tank, the RWA began to look for a design that could support it in combat.  Republic Arms proposed a heavy tank chassis that could carry large number of missiles.  After a long evaluation period, the RWA determined that the new design, while powerful, was ill suited to the needs of the armored units.  It appeared that the design would be abandoned when fate stepped in.  During field testing on Toland, the world was attacked by raiders.  The 3 prototypes of the Artemis were deployed along side the planetary militia.  During the attack the Artemis’ used their massive missile batteries to pound the bandits and drive them off.  Following this success the Artemis was ordered into production and assigned to militias across the Rim Worlds Republic.

Capabilities
The Artemis is designed to provide missile support to the tanks of the Rim Worlds Army.  Capable of launching 30 long range missiles in a single salvo.  This impressive fire power comes at a price, the Artemis has very limited mobility.  As a result, the Artemis is rarely used in offensive missions, but is instead deployed in fixed defensive positions.

The slow speed of the Artemis ensures that it is unable to out run any other mech or vehicle.  To protect the Artemis against enemy units trying to over run it, the design team included a pair of 4 tube short range missile launchers for use against armored targets and 2 machine guns for use against infantry.  The Intar Burner flamer is primarily used to create smoke screens to enable the Artemis to escape.

Deployment
The Artemis was typically deployed defending high value targets.  Fighting from fixed positions, the Artemis proved to be tough opponents.  During the Reunification War, the SLDF usually resorted to air strikes to destroy Artemis formations.
