Overview:
The Slammer, as it is commonly known, is Kallon Industries' attempt to put a clantechnology battle tank into play. Development time was considerable and costs, including consultancy with elements of Clan Sea Fox, bordered on putting the company out of business.
Valuable contracts from the RAF and CCAF following the Capellan Crusades allowed Kallon to put the Slammer into heavy production and the tanks were frequently found on both sides of battles as House Liao cut into the disintegrating Republic after 3132.
Capabilities:
While it shares the frailties of any hovercraft, the Slammer is well armoured - as much so as many 'Mechs its size. Even if it looses mobility, a Slammer has a good chance of holding out until it can be recovered.
The turret mounted PPC provides excellent penetration, enough to severely damage or penetrate the armour on lighter 'Mechs or tanks. The AP gauss rifle is excellent against infantry but overall the Slammer is often outgunned by more conventional battle tanks.
Mobility is the key advantage of the Slammer. It can keep pace with what would be considered recon units in most military functions. Since the CCAF has the excellent Luduan scout this isn't a problem for them and the RAF and AFFS have found that a mixed Slammer/Regulator lance on their flanks is usually a sign that a Luduan has successfully mapped out their positions.
Battle History:
The late 3130s and early 3140s led to many occasions where the Slammer faced off against the AFFS' Sortek and Zibler hovertanks. While the AFFS had their victories, the ability of the Slammer to outpace a Zibler while using their turrets to engage Sorteks forced to approach nose-on by their limited gun traverse mean that the AFFS had an uphill struggle.
