Overview
In the 2530s the TDF began to become disenchanted with their aging Dauntless Heavy Tank.  While the Dauntless had performed well, the original design was  nearly 100 years old.  Despite numerous upgrades, the Dauntless was unable to keep up with the more modern AFVs being deployed by the TDF.  Concordat Munitions Corporation, manufacturer of the Dauntless, began developing a successor in 2534.  Rather then simply upgrading older components with newer models, they started with a clean slate.  Analyzing nearly 100 years of experience with the Dauntless, they were able to identify 4 major shortcomings of the Dauntless. These were the poor mobility of the tank, it’s limited range and its limited battlefield endurance due to the use of all ammo dependent weapons.  The design team quickly realized they could solve all of these problem by using a fusion engine on their new tank.  CMC presented the new design to the TDF in 2536 and despite some misgivings about the high per unit cost, it was accepted for service.  By the end of the decade the design had proven to be a winner and huge orders were placed with CMC for the Grizzly.

Capabilities
The heart of the Grizzly is its fusion engine. The powerful engine provides the Grizzly with a 33% boost in speed over the Dauntless while also providing it with near unlimited range. They also allowed the Grizzly to mount energy weapons without having to add additional heatsinks or bulky power amplifiers.

The main gun of the Grizzly is the powerful Taurus WarWorks PPC.  This is supported by a number of short and long range missile launchers.  The Delta Dart Long Range Missile Rack is located on the rear deck of the tank behind the turret.  Angled upwards and facing forward, the Delta Dart can be used to provide indirect fire, giving the Grizzly it’s own built in short range artillery.

For close in defense, the Grizzly carries 5 Delta Bolt-2 SRM racks.  Covering every side of the tank, they provide a limited defense against enemy units trying to outflank the tank.  The Grizzly carries 2 ammo bins for the SRM racks, allowing the tank to carry both standard and inferno rounds.  Finishing off the weapons are a pair of Machine Guns for use against infantry.

Deployment
The Grizzly proved to be a popular design with the TDF, despite its high cost.  By 2547 it had replaced all of the Dauntless in the TDF.  During the Reunification War, the Grizzly proved to be a tough opponent for the SLDF.  During the initial battles, the SLDF was surprised to find such an advanced tank in large quantities.  The tank remained in production until the final surrender of the Concordat.  Soon after the Concordat Munitions Corporation’s factories were converted to civilian products and production of the Grizzly was halted.  The surviving tanks have continued to serve with the TDF, but they are slowly being supplement by more common SLDF designs.
