Dark Age Vehicles updated for Total Warfare.
« on: September 13, 2012, 10:53:31 PM »

TRO 3075 and 3085 showed uys dark age vehicles with gear that is unique rtather then muchy or not legal to the game, so I have been pouring through dissers on warrenborn.com to build vehicles that are just as awesome.  first is the JESII Missile Carrier.

the JESI (well the engine update one) is a great Short ranged carrier, and the JESII is an update to the Heavy LRM carrier.  for me an improved III model should emphasize tactical flexibility, so I fell back on the old MML.  I removed the machine guns mounted in the dark age model, beliving inferno SMRS and regular SRMs cover short ranged worries, probably better then the Kickers did.  I added CASE to protect the massive ammo bins and reduced the armor and cheapened the engine to reflect that this is a fire support unit in need of protection.

The Lamprey had a lot of potential for me, but it's extant equipment made it a flying tank hauling a single Battle armor squad.  being a Taurian deisng it was time to call in the Light autocannon to provide ample support as opposed to point blank SRM showers.

the Clan Asier AA Vehicle was an odd beast, and clear munchinisim against flying vehicles.  frankly on its own the thing is a nightmare against vehicles, battle armor and flyers as a point defense tank.  using the HAG may have toned it down... unintentionally

DEFENSE is the name of the game for the behemoth II, and the original does that quite well, but I felt MMLs to combine the firepower of LRM 20s and SRM 4s was a wise investment, and the use of a Plasma Rifle provided enhanced anti vehicle and anti infantry firepower at medium range.

the DI Schmitt tank was... a joke.  Rather then the blinding firepower of the Rotary Autocannon, I chose for more finesse with Light Autocannon 5s.  I had to downgrade the medium lasers to ER smalls, shortening the defenisive firepower range, but permitting more ammunition, armor, and more importantly SPEED.  by making it a 5/8 I turned this thing into a fast response wheeled assault vehicle.

I am not sure that 2 LACs are going to be adequate for the mission profile you mention.  Nor is a single LRM-15 with a single ton of ammo.

Most of the tonnage is taken up by engine.  Why not de-rate it to a 4/6 and add a supercharger?  That would give you the sprint capability while leaving room for additional warload and armor.

Thusly:

Type/Model:    Di Schmitt Anti-Vee Mod
Mass:          80 tons

Equipment:                                 Items    Mass
Int. Struct.:  40 pts Standard               0      8.00
Engine:        300 XL Fusion                 2      9.50
Shielding & Transmission Equipment:          0      5.00
Engine Supercharger:                         1      1.00
    Cruise MP:   4
     Flank MP:   6 [8]
Heat Sinks:     10 Single                    0       .00
Cockpit & Controls:                          0      4.00
Crew: 6 Members                              0       .00
Turret Equipment:                            0      3.00
Armor Factor:  258 pts Hvy Ferro-Fibrous     3     13.00

                          Internal    Armor
                          Structure   Value
   Front:                     8         55
   Left / Right Sides:        8      52/52
   Rear:                      8         44
   Turret:                    8         55

Weapons and Equipment    Loc  Heat  Ammo   Items    Mass
--------------------------------------------------------
4 Light AC/5s            Turret   0   80     5     24.00
4 ER Small Lasers        Turret   8          4      2.00
4 LRM 5s                 Turret   0   48     5     10.00
1 C.A.S.E. Equipment     Body                1       .50
--------------------------------------------------------
TOTALS:                           8         21     80.00
Items & Tons Left:                           0       .00

Calculated Factors:
Total Cost:        15,057,000 C-Bills
Battle Value 2:    1,528 (old BV = 993)

Take this one for a spin.  It still carries Heavy Ferro but adds 2.5 tons of protection.  Multiple weapons versus opposing vees = plenty of chances to take out their suspension and turn them into pillboxes.  Against 'Mechs and infantry, you have specialty ammo and bins to hold it.

I am not sure that 2 LACs are going to be adequate for the mission profile you mention.  Nor is a single LRM-15 with a single ton of ammo.

Most of the tonnage is taken up by engine.  Why not de-rate it to a 4/6 and add a supercharger?  That would give you the sprint capability while leaving room for additional warload and armor.

not a bad idea, for the engine, though I did want to keep the vehicle as Tournament Legal as possible.  the twin LACs don't pack up front punch, but the use of AP or Precision Ammo can provide quality hits over quantity of shredded armor.  the LRM 15... is secondary at best, given this things mission profile in built up close in areas I figured it was more opportunity and self cover then anything else.

good ideas though

I like the idea of downgrading the engine slightly for a better balance but 2 light AC a bit light for me how about this boosting up the lasers, mixing the ACs and adding some MMLs to the mix and bringing in a Targeting Computer

I've left off the supercharger but alternatively you could put one on for less LAC ammo

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

I stuck with quad LACs because they pack a 5-point punch, still have access to special ammo - and won't jam.  But the RAC/2 is good for longer-range spamming!

Targeting computer makes it accurate too with all weapons turret mounted go hull down and you have a sniper with LRM support they close you unleash medium lasers and SRMs all with targeting computer and Artemis systems
