Overview:
Introduced in 2512, the Alexander Heavy Hover Tank was one of the most common vehicles in the Rim Worlds Army. With the development of modern combat technologies in 2503, the RWA saw the need to develop new vehicles and mechs that would be capable of surviving on the modern battlefield. The Alexander was one of the results of these efforts. With a huge amount of territory to defend, and a relatively small army, the Alexander was intended as a rapid reaction unit. The new design would combine a high speed with powerful weapons, making it a threat to any raiders or invasion forces.
Capabilities:
The Alexander is designed to quickly hit enemy forces and retreat before they can respond, slowly wearing them down until slower, more power units of the RWA can establish a defensive line. With a top speed of over 150kph, the Alexander is capable of catching or outrunning any mech currently in existence, as well as most ground vehicles.
The main punch of the Alexander is the Republic Mk VII Autocannon. In a controversial decisions, the design team decided to mount the gun in a fixed forward mounting, rather then use a turret. While this requires the entire tank to turn to engage a target, this was deemed acceptable as the Alexander was expected to make hit and run attacks, rather then slug it out with the enemy. Supporting the Autocannon is a 2 tube SRM launcher. Many times this will carry inferno rounds for use against infantry and unarmored targets.
Deployment:
The Alexander was deployed in large numbers by the RWA, estimated production was over 10,000 units. During the Reunification War, the Alexander saw significant combat against the SLDF. The design proved very effective when used in hit and run attacks, but when it was forced to slug it out with the enemy, the Alexanders suffered heavy losses. Less then 500 Alexanders survived the war. These were reorganized into specialized hover tank battalions in the RWA.
