Hey folks been having a lot of fun reading and drooling over Centurion13's Technical Readout 3063. One of the comments made by Dragon Cat got me to thinking since we have a Kurita Tank Corps to play with now how about a Command Tank. Likely a heavy or assault machine (70-100 tons) mass wise such a vehicle must have two (2) C3 Master Computers to effectively link an entire Draconis Armored Company. Engine wise I'd like to see a Fusion Plant this thing being a line tank however I will entertain XL Engines in this case as such vehicles are not all that common (1 in 12 in this case). You can also give me a variant with a single (1) C3 Master Computer to command a lance. Don't even bother thinking of a Slave or C3-less design - this is a Command Tank. I'll be interested in seeing how guys try to keep it alive on the battlefield as every opponent in his right mind will try and take this thing out the first chance he gets. Translation it better be freakin nasty! The winning design will be featured in my Clarion Call storyline and its evolving universe. Oh and to that point keep technology to the mid 3050s for now. Good luck!!

How did I guess JPArbiter would think outside the box! ;D
Both interesting concepts especially the VTOL. Such a command vehicle is vulnerable but its fragility is offset by its speed.
The Oni has the ECM which is a nice feature for such a command vehicle. But 4 C3s? That is a little over kill and to admit my ignorance - didn't think it was possible. Always remember 2 as the max and anymore were useless. Rule change??

in Total Warfare pp 132 there is a diagram of a unit with four master computers linking to three other lances with three slaved units and a fourth untapped unit (which I would have be an ECCM interdictor)
it could also coordinate two seperate companies as traditional. those two companies could not integrate each others targeting information, but if you properly label each master and which slaves go the masters who cares?

Do you want it fluffed or not?

You know how I love fluff Ice! ;)
Thanks for the explanation JP, afraid your gonna have to bring me up to date on some of the newer stuff.
Nice entry Epoch Rooster, the Oyabun looks good but I wonder if a wheeled vehicle would cover the most ground so to speak. Love to see this thing in a city.
Yup it is all your fault Dragon Cat! >:( :D
Keep those entries coming!!!

Really simple Takiro, Pony up for Total Warfare, Tech Manual, and Tac Ops. much better and more comprehensive set of rules then the BMR and Max Tech

Slightly off topic, I got them JP and have read them but if you don't use it u lose it. Really don't play the game anymore. I just write, comment, and observe the great BattleTech multiverse. So your comments are extremely useful in bringing me and keeping me up to date.

Daisho Command Tank
Mass: 90 tons
Movement Type: Tracked
Power Plant: Hermes 270 XL
Cruising Speed: 32.4 kph
Maximum Speed: 54.0 kph
Armor: New Samarkand Royal Ferro-Fibrous
Armament:
2 Grizzard Model 200 Gauss Rifles
4 Dodd Small Lasers
Manufacturer: New Samarkand Metals
Primary Factory: New Samarkand
Communications System: Olmstead 300 with Guardian ECM
Targeting and Tracking System: Omicron XII with Beagle Active Probe
OVERVIEW:
As the DCMS improved its conventional armor in the wake of the Clan invasion the need for a command tank became apparent. The innovative C3 Computer was at the core of the concept which called for the new design to coordinate an entire company and be an imposing force by itself on the battlefield. Such demands hamstrung many would be entries and while several out of the box ideas were proposed only this higher priced option ultimately satisfied Lord Kurita. Dubbed the Daisho in honor of the twin samurai swords traditionally worn by Draconis officers this command tank fittingly mounts a pair of C3 Computers and dual Gauss Cannons.
CAPABILITIES:
The Daisho features one of the most impressive electronic packages ever before seen on a conventional vehicle. Two C3 Master Computers allow the Command Tank to coordinate an entire armor company. These massive electronic brains are aided by a Beagle Active Probe and a Guardian ECM Suite whose features complement it nicely on the battlefield.
Two Grizzard Model 200 Gauss Rifles mounted in the tank's turret serve as its primary arsenal. These fearsome weapons culled from the Cereberus BattleMech make the tank a devastating offensive force all by itself. Four Dodd Small Lasers individually placed around the Daisho's hull are intended to deal with infantry at close range. These energy weapons take advantage of the fusion engine's integral heat dissipation.
In order to fit this equipment the design includes an Extra Light Fusion engine despite the expense. While unusual for a Kurita vehicle to mount such a costly power plant an exception was made for this command tank. The Hermes 270 XL engine used on the Wolf Trap and Mauler proved to be a natural fit. As one of the longest and most common made extra lights engineers were able to justify its inclusion.
In order to provide the greatest amount of protection New Samarkand Royal Ferro-Fibrous armor plating was also included. While this raised the final cost of a single Daisho to nearly 21 million C-bills per tank it again utilized existing material. This reutilization practice cut research and development time significantly while saving money on new component cost. Using proven equipment also resulted in a highly reliable final product whose actual production was economically viable.
DEPLOYMENT:
Produced in limited numbers due to cost and need the Daisho has slowly been spreading throughout DCMS front line armor commands since 3055. Because of its impressive capabilities many believe that the Daisho will become target number one one on the battlefield for any adversary. Naturally this has left Kurita tank crewmen clamoring for assignment to a Daisho.

Finally got around to this one, and fluffed it. It's a variant of the Katana from TRO 3063, I think it works pretty well
Katana C3
Mass: 75 tons
Tech Base: Inner Sphere
Motive Type: Tracked
Rules Level: Tournament Legal
Era: Clan Invasion
Tech Rating/Era Availability: E/X-X-E
Production Year: 0
Cost: 13,304,250 C-Bills
Battle Value: 1,270
Power Plant: Nissan 225 Fusion XL Engine
Cruise Speed: 32.4 km/h
Flanking Speed: 54.0 km/h
Armour: Durallex Heavy Ferro-Fibrous
Armament:
2 Shigunga LRM-15s w/ Artemis IV FCS
2 Bulldog Large Lasers
1 Bulldog Machine Gun
1 MacArthur Anti-Missile System
1 Luthien Armour Works C3 Computer (Master)
1 Unknown CASE
Manufacturer: New Samarkand Metals/Bulldog Enterprises
Primary Factory: Macksburg
Communications System: Scarborough Talky-2
Targeting and Tracking System: Scarborough Tracky-1
Overview:
The introduction of specialized armoured fighting vehicles into the DCMS in the
early 3060s brought a whole new weapon to the defence and offence of the
Draconis Combine. Immediately however it was clear that the Katana a fire
support Heavy Vehicle was the prefect candidate for a new C3 variant.
Capabilities:
Keeping the same basic chassis of the Katana Tank the new variant continues to
use the Quad-tracks pioneered with the original vehicle. Wired into this
chassis is a C3 Master unit allowing the vehicle that allows the vehicle to
coordiante upto four units. With the ability to command the designers also
added a CASE system to protect the ammo bin and 9 tons of a new heavier
compound of Ferro-Fibrous Armour plate.
Unlike the original Katana which had a standard engine the new vehicle mounted
a 225 Extra-light Fusion Engine. This continued to allow the design to take
advantage of the heat sinks mounted there which helped keep the Bulldog large
lasers cool.
Supporting these weapons were a pair of Shiguga fifteen-tube Long Range Missile
Launchers supported by Artemis IV FCS systems. The two launchers is twice the
firepower of the original Katana, while the Artemis makes the weapons far more
deadly than before. These weapons are supported by three tons of ammunition
allowing them to fire continuously.
For point defence a machine gun allows the tank to defeat infantry that get too
close while an Anti-missile system cuts down on the missile hits against the
vehicle.
Battle History:
None recorded
Deployment:
The Katana has served on every border of the Combine often refitted with a C3
system to fit other newer units. The new C3 variant is expected to fit into
these formations as a command vehicle. The Ryuken and Ghost Regiments are
especially looking forward to this new vehicle.

Dragon Cat I'm gonna have to DQ your entry as it mounts only a single C3 Master. I'm looking for a Company Commander not just a Lance CO. Also remember this is a 3050 era challenge so no Heavy Ferro-Fibrous. ;)
Cent13 I really like the angle on your submission. Might have gone with a little bit of a different weapons load but the ER Large and SRM combo seems effective for your highly mobile command tank. You got only to big negatives which could be fixed. Name is the biggest. Got have a name as it says a lot about the design. For example Epoch Rooster's submission, the Oyabun. He didn't have any fluff (which is a second big negative) but the name of his design evokes a lot of ideas. I'm thinking that wheeled combat vehicle is used by the Ghost Regiments and perhaps the Yakuza even had a hand in design.

K Dragon Cat your in. ;)
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with Cent13. :)
Still waiting on Uncle Ice's submission. ???
-
Hey gang, a minor fluff change to the Diasho I'm gonna implement is changing the manufacturer to Bulldog Enterprises on Proserpina. For this reasons some component names will also change and in the future you'll see why this happened.
Please finish up your design submissions by the 14th of October so I can close the contest.
I will be using the Diasho certainly but I'm also looking for alternatives who might be more cost effective, speed, or some other factor on these command tanks. Translations multiple winners are possible. ;)
-
Okay folks, a half hour remains before we close up shop. Cent13 just got his Minamoto in under the line via PM and his 65 tonner is a good one.
Update: Thanks everybody that is it. Contest is closed.
-
Sorry to let you down but my idea was too much out of the box.
-
No problem Ice, I should have the reviews shortly of what was entered.
-
Takiro, does this involve playtesting the designs? Say, in MegaMek or somesuch?
Cent13
-
Nope, just my review of submitted material based on what was submitted.
-
Well another Design Contest has come and gone. Here is my take on it. Again I’d like to thank Dragon Cat and Centurion13 for getting this concept started in the first place. On with the reviews!
Kappa Command Helicopter (JPArtiber)
An interesting out of the box idea certainly but I wanted a tank for this challenge and well this ain’t it. I just might come back to a swarm of attack choppers for the Dragon as such a company sized lightning attack might prove to be devastating. One wonders what kind of weaponry the other Helicopters might carry to create something potent.
Oni Command Tank (JPArtiber)
Our biggest submission at 100 tons but I just wanted 2 C3 Masters! Would have liked to see what you could have done with the ten extra tons. Plus the MRMs are slightly ahead of their time. Was looking for the early 3050s. Liked the inclusion of the ECM as I said before for the command tank. So in spite of her plodding speed I still wonder what this tank could have been. Any possibility of a redesign?
Oyabun Command Tank (Epoch Rooster)
This 80 ton entry was a pleasant surprise to me. Instead of going with tracks ER went with wheels on his Command Vehicle that was an enlarged Tokugawa. The concept of an urban command tank really excited me and your design looks spot on. However as I pointed out to JP the MRM along with the Streak SRM 6 are a little ahead of the curve. Despite the fact you had no fluff the name Oyabun was enough to trigger a vision of what the writing could be. I'm thinking that this vehicle is used by the Ghost Regiments and perhaps the Yakuza even had a hand in design. Nice job! Second place overall and I look forward to a redesign.
Katana 2C3 Tank (Dragon Cat)
Thanks for cleaning up your entry to fit the time period better. Still don’t care for the Rocket Launchers. Yeah you can make an argument that they were around at the time but not for me in the early 3050s. You XLed the engine to get the weight for the C3 Masters and overall she is nice design but for some reason it doesn’t grab me. The fluff is uninspired and it doesn’t have that certain something. Looking for that hook which grabs me but don’t see it here. So a bronze medal goes out to you DC. Good try.
Minamoto Mobile Command Tank (Centurion13)
Finally we come to the tracked 65 ton mobile command tank offered by Centurion13 and at 5/8 she can really move. Great hook and it really fills a niche for lighter more mobile armor commands. Its arsenal composed of an ER Large and SRM racks isn’t overly devastating but combined with its speed makes for one neat little design. The Guardian ECM complements the dual C3 Masters nicely. Plus I liked the name you came up with. Looking forward to some fluff as you are the winner of this little contest. Reposted your entry below. Congrats!

I will also be using my Daisho in the Clarion Call setting along with the Minamoto. Further contests may well follow and I’d really like to see the Oyabun in particular get fixed, fluffed, and it too may find a spot in the DCMS. Thanks again everyone for your participation!! See ya next time.

I will get going on the writeup. Need to finish it.

Overview:
Based loosely on the Tokugawa Heavy and sharing the same powerplant as its
parent vehicle, the Oyabun Command Tank is an attempt to give the DCMS a
vehicle to coordinate an armored unit in combat. It is fitted with twin C3
Master computers that will allow it to control a company-sized network in
combat.
While intended to be a command vehicle, the Oyabun is not without means to
engage in heavy combat. Featuring a wide variety of weapons systems, the Oyabun
is capable of engaing the enemy at a wide variety of ranges. At long range it
features a standard particle projection cannon combined with Artemis
IV-equipped ten-tube long range missile system with two tons of ammunition.
For shorter ranges, an Artemis-IV equipped six-tube short range missle launcher
combined with a brace of machine guns handle the short range load. Originally,
a trio of Streak SRM-2 launchers were fitted, but continued ammunition feed
issues necessitated a change to a single launcher.
For added protection, an anti-missile system was added to protect the Oyabun
from incoming missile fire. The Oyabun is protected by a staggering
sixteen-and-a-half tons of standard armor plate, more than the larger Behemoth
tank used by DCMS tank crews.
Originally shunned by many among the higher echelons of the DCMS, the Oyabun
has gained some favor after its initial deployment with troops of Tenth Ghost
Regiment in a series of training exercises against units stationed in the
Benjamin. Using combined arms companies in urban environments, the Ghosts
handedly defeated elements of the 3rd and 15th Benjamin Regulars in separtate
engagements over a period of six months.
Upon hearing these results, several commanders from the othe Ghost Regiments
have put in requests for the Oyabun to assigned to their armored units.
Variants:
Though not yet seen on the battlefield, there are two variants of the Oyabun in
the testing phase. The first is similar in armament to Tokugawa as it features
the same LB 10-X autocannon, short-range missile and dual medium laser loadout.
The exceptions are the medium lasers are standards, not pulses, and the lasers
are now mounted in the turret while the SRM is now hull-mounted.
The second variant is designed for close-in combat and replaces the
hull-mounted LRM launcher with a brace of four-tube SRM launchers.
Additionally, the PPC has been swapped out with a large pulse laser.
A third variant featuring an upgrade of the PPC to the extended range model was
discarded as it would hav lead to the removal of one of the C3 units to add
additional heat sinks to compensate for the increased heat load.
Ideally, should the first two variants past testing, they would make up one third of
all Oyabuns produced and that number would be equally split between the two
variants (each would make up one-sixth of all Oyabuns produced);

Looking forward to it Cent13, congrats!
Great job Epoch Rooster the Oyabun specs out nicely now and the fluff is solid. Consider yourself a winner as I'm going to use her as well.
Yikes Dragon Cat, your harsh. I look forward to your next attempt and hope those scientists do better. For their own sake. ;)

I will see what I can do with the Oni...
-
Excellent!
-
Probably not my most creative work, but it has reach, respectable firepower, an ECCM, and it will be difficult as hell to kill. I reccomend grouping with a Scout VTOL, two LRM Carriers, and two platoons of Manticores or Tokugawas
