So with Record Sheets 3067u being released we got a kick ass version of the Enyo called the Sholef, which continues in Clan Hells Horses going Jewish on us.
so I want to take this to the next easy step. the SLDF Merkava Tank is already kinda cool, lets Clan that Puppy up. the goal is to create a Second Line vehicle that functions the way the Enyo does for Front line forces. (as a Main Battle Tank)
Rules are as such
1) no XL Fusion engines. as a post jihad design the need to get vehicles out in quantity is a must, XL engines prevent that. Fuel Cell, Fusion, Fission, ICE are acceptable.
2) Weight variance can be + or - 20 tons
3) we are going to XTRO this, advanced tech is encouraged, particularly X Tech that gets made "Tournament Legal" post 3090
4) Be creative, the most effective design will not necessarily win, the most clever design will.
Design submission deadline is 02/24/2013. Winners will get a Free copy of the Duke Playtest Rules, and MW Tactics / MWO Poster.

Okay, weight dropped to 70-tons, for a 5-ton difference. This version uses 1 ton more armor than the original (11 vs 10), but all of that is Ferro-lamellar. She carries a bit weaker protection on the front and sides (2 points ea) but stronger on the turret . . . and the FL armor absorbs and dissipates part of the damage. So overall, I'd say she's ahead on protection. Same speed (4/6) which good for a tracked tank of this size.
The original carried an AC-5 (20 shots), an LRM-15 (16 shots), an SRM-4 (25 shots), and two MGs (200 shots). Except for 1 MG, everything was in the turret. Clan Hell's Horses removed the AC-5 and LRM-15, replacing both of them with a HAG-30. Better range, same crit seeking as the LRMs, excellent AAA capabilities. Four tons of ammo gives 16 shots. AND 50% greater potential damage the LRM-15/AC-5 combination with no minimum range. Instead of the SRM-4, this model carries a Streak SRM-6 with one ton of ammunition (15 shots). Replacing the two MGs are a single AP Gauss in the turret, with a ton of ammo for 20 shots. Really, with the CHH Elemental and conventional infantry, they've got PLENTY of anti-personnel firepower; this tank can get by with a little bit less.
Only experimental equipment is the FL armor, but it is a capable and potentially deadly tank. And at just over 4.3 million C-Bills and a BV of 1,361, not all that bad on the wallet.

Looks reasonable, MA. However here's an alternative take:
The Merkava Mk.C carries not one turret but two: a low-slung forward turret houses the long range armament: a Large Pulse Laser and a Streak LRM-20 (with 18 loads). This primary armament provides excellent long range reach but cannot fire backwards, limiting its use as on the retreat (something that may not have occurred to aggressive Clan tank crews).
The aft turret, elevated for full 360 degree fire, houses short-range weapons: a Streak SRM-4 and a pair of anti-personnel gauss rifles. Thus the Merkava can easily engage dismounted elementals, infantry and light vehicles with secondary armament while maintaining long range fire against heavier targets.
Although the tank uses advanced, lightweight alloys in its armour, there has been no upgrade to its resilience: in fact, the rear armour is believed to have marginally inferior protection to the Mk VIII that this upgrade is based upon. However the Merkava Mk C does boast advanced ECM - something of increasing importance on the modern battlefield.

Hell's Horses Intelligence Report
Clan Hell's Horses doesn't just want to bring back a Star League Legend but also create something that could rival Clan Wolf's Carnivore they also didn't want another 75 ton tank since they already had the Athena Heavy Tank. To do this they upped the tonnage to 80 tons which also resulted in a drop in speed to a max speed of 54kph.
Given the Hell's Horse like of advanced vehicles they chose to spend no expense on their new Assault Tank. First sinking a newly developed Rotary AC5 and Streak LRM-20 into the turrets as its main hitting weapons these weapons invoking thoughts of the original's AC-5 and LRM-15. Continuing to try and mimic the original design the Hell's Horses added an AP Gauss Rifle into both the turret and at the front of the Tank.
This is where the similarities end however, first flanking each side of Rotary Autocannon are advanced Improved Heavy Medium Lasers with infinite these weapons are more than just secondary weapons capable of matching Inner Sphere PPCs for firepower if not range. The Advanced tech does not end there with an Angel ECM Suite providing a superior electronic defence to the Clan Wolf Carnivore. Finally echoing the Athena tank before it an Advanced Targeting Computer makes the Autocannon, lasers and AP Gauss rifles even more accurate.

A complete series of AFVs. MBT, IFV & CFV based on cheap affordable fuelcells.
Skipping the rad-shielding of fusion engines makes fuelcells real competitive on vehicles, only XL engines are truly superior as long as the price is of secondary concern.
