not much of a punch for a 60 tonner

The Plasma could heat up the enemy, good anti-infantry or BA but it doesn't have much in the way of a finishing weapon

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

and the fluff

Manticore-P
Mass 60 Tons
Movement Type: Tracked
Engine: Pitban 240
Cruising Speed: 43 Kph
Flank Speed: 65 Kph
Armor: Arc Shield Maxi V
Armament:
D.E.I. Vaporizor Plasma Rifle
Schlüsselmeister neun MML 9
Defiance B3 Medium laser
Primary Factory: Hesperus II
Secondary Factories: Marseilles, Very Nice,

Overview
In the immediate aftermath of the Jihad, EDF Purchasers toured the Lyran Commonwealth with billions of C Bills in purchasing authority.  Each approached the various Lyran Militas with a simple offer.  Sell outdated Manticore Tanks to the EDF.  Many Lyran commanders seeing the hard currency as a means to easy upgrades (or retirement) were all too happy to accept.  In the case of the succession wars era Manticore tanks, this gave Elysium over 500 vehicles to form the core of their tank force, and enough work to keep engineers busy for two years.

Capabilities
The Manticore Plasma Model is a rather extensive upgrade involving the replacement of almost the entire turret assembly. The Parti-kill PPC was removed with a locally produced Plasma Weapon installed in its stead.  This gives upgraded Manticore enhanced utility against all enemy types at the cost of range.  Meanwhile The SRM rack is completely removed and an MML Rack installed in place of the LRM system, again creating a threatening short range profile while only slightly sacrificing long range firepower.  The left over tonnage from combining the missile weapons also provides three tons for the Plasma Rifle’s ammunition.  The B3M Medium laser that was installed on the Manticore after 3030 remains the same.  the biggest and most unanticipated headache of the Manticore P Upgrade was the nearly 500 Succession war Era PPCs that were sitting in a warehouse unused.  Like with many things in the EDF, it took a look backwards to solve that issue.

Deployment
Quickly becoming the main battle tank of the EDF, the Manticore has proven extremely effective.  By 3110 the EDF’s growth forced DEI to obtain a licensing agreement from Defiance Industries to build the Manticore. In exchange, Defiance has begun developing the Manticore P for the Lyran Militas and Regulars.

the punch is nearly identical to the succession war Manticore, which is not bad, and against infantry and armor that extra D6 of damage can ruin days in my experience.  the ability to heat up mechs through the +d6 heat can really control the engagement, as I saw with two Game with the Masters events in a row when someone ruined a Masters day with the twin Plasma toting Marauder.

revisting this thread, I am considering downgrading the MML 9 to an MML 7 so I can add a targeting computer and C3 to the tank.  thoughts?
