Harrier hovertank.
« on: August 28, 2012, 07:24:41 PM »

hyper fast units are aways a problem in Battletech, particularly these days.  my solution was pretty elegant if I say so myself.  hyper fast units are generally light, so massive crippling damage is not nessicary.  hitting often is as important if not more so then hitting hard.  thus The Harrier, a design that utilizes Light AC2s, specifically for precision munitions, and a targeting computer, allowing the vehicle to negate up to a +4 movement based modifier.

I chose a hovercraft because hyper fast mechs, LAMs and vehicles will choose open terrain as much as possible, terrain that hovercraft excel in.

Nice tactical concept, I recently went with a fast hover tank that delivers a big punch at close range but you've got something different here. Another design I'm screwing around with is a 3025 helicopter gunship that delivers ranged damage with high speed attacks. So I wonder if your concept would be better or possible with a VTOL??

in terms of mobility and the ability to stay on target, yes probably, in terms of durability and overall firepower... flip a coin I think.

A Hovercraft Pike?

Pikes are meant to be semi static extreme range support fire against heavy opponents well distracted by your own mechs and heavy tanks, exploiting holes opened up by big guns.

the Harrier as I have built it is suppoused to be a mobile dynamic hunter of extremely fast and lightweight machines.  the use of the LAC 2s ensures deep bins of precision ammunition to negate TMMs generated by machines like the PHX-9K Phoenix Hawk, or OTT-11J Ostscout, or anything that can rack up at LEAST a +3 or 4 TMM with relative ease.

I do agree with your analysis but the weapons made me think of this tank.
