Schrek II Plasma Weapons Carrier
« on: December 08, 2013, 12:56:58 PM »

Aldis industries had a startling reversal of fortunes in the immediate aftermath of the Jihad.  despite the success of the DI Morgan from Defiance Industries, the XL engine was too costly for anyone who was not a government force to purchase.  this left thier Shreck PPC Carrier as a direct fire support vehicle of choice.  no one batted an eye at the fact that a tank that was once an impressive luxury was now a "Budget Vehicle"

hoping to capitialize on thier new marketplace, Aldis went back to the Drawing board with the Schrek.  Sticking with the basics, the vehicles engine frame and crew compartment were unchanged, and the HellStar PPCs were replaced in the turret with a trio of Victory Blast Furnace Plasma Rifles.  these weapons were chosen because they matched the PPC for firepower, but also provided deadly secondary effects to thier targets, either heating up a mech to dangerous levels or laying on additional damage to conventional units.

the Schrek II lacks it's parent designs endurance however, only being capable of about two minutes of sustained fire.  Aldis has compensated this with a two  tiered marketing system, insisting these tanks are meant to be used a platoon at a time from prepared positions, and that for additional endurance they still offer the Schrek I.  so far sales to Republic Planetary Militas have been encouraging, but they only seem to be bought by worlds in the rimward prefectures, away from Clan Borders

See, given the sales pitch Aldis is tossing, I'd have opted for a smaller fusion engine and used the free weight to add additional armor and Plasma ammunition. With those changes the tank really does become a platoon-level, prepared-position type vehicle that fits the sales pitch. Said changes would also have the side benefit of making the Shrek I stand out as a little more as a wholly different product from the Shrek II with its greater ground speed, unlimited ammunition, but thinner armor.

...If I were Aldis Industries, etc., etc...

Either way, neat concept. For some reason I really like the Cappie Plasma weapon. I think it's a great weapon for light ’Mechs and vehicles, in particular, hover tanks.

Particularly with the Total Warefare update that came out recently where despite being a DF-E weapon a plasma rifle does 10+2D6 damage to infantry as well as tanks.

one blast will eviscerate a single platoon, thus taking away one of the best assets you have against tanks protected by tank Bunkers.

this was a minimalist modifacation, the end result of which would be Schrek 1.5s that sport Ferro Fibrous armor as well to streamline production.  yay for corporate cost cutting.
