Mehit fast transport.
« on: July 27, 2017, 05:54:33 AM »

Whilst their fleet of Anhur transports were solid and reliable, the VTOL was old, and was proving easier to intercept thanks to its relatively slow speed, with it being unable to outrun hostile VTOLs that were tasked with interdicting Clan supply lines.

Clan Diamond Shark worked with Clan Hells Horses to produce a more modern version of the older Anhur.  The Sharks wanted a priority transport, the Horses wanted a less easily intercepted ordinance and troop carrier and the joint design is seen as a success by both Clans.  The Sharks of course insisted that they be able to market the design but in recognition of the joint nature of the design process, agreed to give the Horses a cut of the sales made to other Clans.

The Anhur's body was extended slightly and broadened whilst the hull was reinforced to allow it to take up to 10 tons of cargo or Elementals.  The weapons load was reduced but this made sense to the Scientists.  After all, if an Anhur is using its weapons, something has gone very wrong indeed.
For offensive firepower the Mehit relies on a single ER medium laser, whilst in a nod to the original Cobra design the Anhur and Mehit were based on, a pair of AMS, one fore, the other aft can destroy most missile barrages.

The addition of an extra engine in each wing with the three mounted in a pyramid like pattern as well as broader and longer wings have increased the transports speed whilst enhancing its low speed handling. The bigger wings also allow for it to glide more than the standard Anhur if it should suffer heavy engine damage.  Now capable of cruising almost as fast as the standard Anhur could go at full throttle the Mehit is far more capable of simply avoiding threats by turning and going to full thrust.

Unfortunately the Scientists were unable to enhance the armour protection and the Mehit is just as fragile should it actually take a hit in combat.

I like it I'd be tempted to have a medium over the smalls mainly because pilots might try to engage anyway with smalls so may as well give them something with a little range

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

That actually makes a lot more sense as you've at least got a bit more range with a single ER med than the Smalls.  *goes to change it*

Not an attack craft but is a Clan craft give them point blank guns and that's where they fight

Asking for trouble would be putting a heavy medium on it

Any thoughts on the Epona II and Phobos? If you want as always, you can use 'em in your AU (so can anyone else if you want :) ) or not.  :)
