Title: Quicksilver Program #32: Clan Urban Assault Vehicle (Wheeled)

The third OmniVehicle to be designed as part of the Quicksilver Program is a Wheeled Motive Type excelling in Urban Warfare for the Clans. This could range from a small highly mobile pacifier, an armored car, or a full out tank on wheels. Please no Extra Light (XL) Engines this time around as the Clans generally do not equip Vehicles with them. Remember this Wheeled Vehicle is being built just after the Truce of Tukayyid (3052) on the Clan Homeworlds and must adhere to Clan Tech Level 2 rules of the time.

There are only four Clans are left as potential manufacturers for this Urban Assault Vehicle; Hell’s Horses, Star Adder, Ice Hellion, and Diamond Shark. Blood Spirit joins Wolf as maxed out in terms of production but they are not done per say. Both Clans will remain involved in this effort to create a new Armored Corps along with the Coyotes (driven in largely by their Scientists) and two Fire Mandrill Kindraa (Payne and Kline). Of course what form of help they provide if any is up to you.

Still fuming about this whole Vehicle non sense are the Burrocks, Jade Falcons, and Smoke Jaguars. Their hatred for this whole concept could manifest itself during the design process. These three Clans will go out of their way to wreck this phase if at all possible. The rest do not want anything to do with OmniVehicles and could careless about most events here. At best they will observe or have some kind of peripheral involvement but apathy is still the rule of the day here.

All entries must also follow established Naming Conventions for Clan Vehicles meaning Gods of War should be your guide. Once again the finalized Primary Industrial Commitments for the Clans are listed below.

Remember my non binding suggestions to help any potential designers who are interested. The Ultralight Vehicle, 15 tons or lighter piloted by a single warrior, is an idea gaining traction. Such a Wheeled Combat Vehicle could be very feasible in this city master role. I hope to see a few of these challengers in this Trail. At the same time I would like to fill the missing gaps in the existing Clan Vehicle Force which can be seen in Technical Readout 3060. This has been a consistent theme of the Quicksilver Program I would like to see it continue here. According to my calculations there are four unfilled mass categories (45 tons, 55 tons, 70 tons, 80 tons) available for this design. This would serve to augment existing Clan designs even though they are not modular in nature.

Fluff to be posted soon.  Gurzil, by the way, was the War God of the ancient Berbers of North Africa.  He took the form of a massive, blood-covered bull whose horns dripped with gore.  This will be a Clan Hell's Horses vehicle.  The vehicle itself is an 8-wheel armored car based on the SLDF Chevalier (though 5 tons lighter) using the engine from the Corvis BattleMech (still in production by CHH at the time of Project Quicksilver).

OVERVIEW:

The Kartikeya started life as a generic tank to provide heavy weapons to Clan Ice Hellion's
defense-based second-line Clusters. In these units, the Clan did not shy away from slower, heavier weapons
platforms with which they defended their holdings and assets. The Clan needed to replace the Rhino
tanks they had been using the founding days needed to be replaced or upgraded. Additionally, they were
doing irreparable damage to roadways in the enclaves in which they served.

The replacement program began in the early 3040s to replace the Rhino with a wheeled vehicle of the
same weight and enhanced combat capability. In order to cut down on research time, the Clan Ice Hellion
scientists decided to use the Rhino's hull as the base for the new Kartikeya and modifying the
lower hull to accept a wheeled drivetrain. After several years of experimentation and trials, the first production
ready Kartikeya was ready in late 3050. It is a true 8x8 vehicle with a large gap between the second and
third pair of wheels to allow for the loading/unloading of infantry, which is either one Star of Elementals or a
Point of conventional infantry.

However, when IlKhan Kerensky expanded his Quicksilver Initiative to include vehicles, the Clan decided to convert
the Kartikeya into an OmniVehicle. A simple task this turned out to be as most of the modularity would be
confined to the turret assembly. After six months of additional testing, the first ten vehicles rolled of the assembly
and were assigned to the 45th Hector Cavaliers for combat operations. The warriors assigned to this vehicle were
very pleased with new vehicle and its configurations and the ease of maintenance, especially the Standard 220 series
fusion engine adapted from the Rhino's 240 series powerplant, an engine that the mechanics were very familiar with.

CONFIGURATIONS:

PRIME:Designed to work in both urban and general combat, the Prime comes with a
Gauss Rifle and a Class 10 LB-X autocannon mounted in the turret. Three pulse lasers provide the back-up
weapons. The two small pulse lasers are dedicated for anti-infantry work, while the medium pulse laser is a
general combat weapon.

A: This variant fits the urban combat role better than the prime with a turret full of shorter-ranged
weapons. the turret-mounted Class 20 Ultra autocannon provides the big punch and is backed up by a pair
six-tube Streak SRM launchers and a large pulse laser. A pair of machineguns provides the necessary anti-
infantry support for this slow moving vehicle.

B: This is the fire support model and all of the weapons are turret-mounted in the model. The Streak
launchers carry over from the previous model, while a pair each of medium pulse lasers and Artemis IV-equipped
twenty-tube LRM launchers replace allof the remaining weaponry of the A configuration.

C:A Class 20 LB-X autocannon is the featured weapon of this model. A fifteen-tube Artemis IV-equipped
LRM launcher and a pair of medium pulse lasers share the turret with the autocannon. A forward mounted small
pulse laser and rear-mounted extended range small laser provide the anti-infantry weapon support.

D:This model comes with a pair of twin large pulse lasers as the main weapons. The addition of these two
weapons required the addition of ten additional heat sinks. A pair of twin-tube Streak SRM launchers and Anti-
Missile share the turret with the twin pulsers. Two machineguns are mounted fore and aft to provide to protection
from infantry attacks

Overview:
Several proposed urban combat vehicle propsals were rejected by Clan Star Adder
as too expensive to fill what they saw as a limited role. It wasn't as if they
were the Smoke Jaguars who might need them to turn upon their civilian castes.

At the last minute, a solution was found by chance. Researching possible names,
a scientist had noted the SLDF's Thor Artillery Vehicle. This had wheels and
evidently space for sizeable armament. Even better, the general disregard for
artillery by the Clans (and the focus on Arrow IV systems when they were used)
meant that literally thousands of the vehicles were stored in various Brian
Caches. Restored and upgraded, these could cut the costs of development
massively.

The Clan Council approved and a new chapter in the history of the Thor began.


Capabilities:
The Thor retains the original engine, leaving it a respectable 86kph top speed
in the field or almost 100 kph on paved roads. The original armour has been
replaced and improved upon with 7.5 tons of modern ferro-fibrous armour
(already produced by the Star Adders for the Ishtar).

The large turret of the Thor can carry a wide variety of armaments. Most
commonly this includes an assault-grade autocannon, a medium laser and a SRM
launcher. This is more than sufficient to shatter light and medium combat units
in short order.

The Thor has two configurations that don't cater to urban environments. The A
configuration is the first of these, reinstalling the original Thumper
artillery piece. The Star Adders have found in trials that this long range
weapon is excellent for goading more aggressive Clans or in engaging
fast-moving units that might otherwise be able to avoid contact.

The Thor B is focused on Streak missiles, capable of salvoing thirty missiles
at a time. The chassis also carries limited anti-infantry armament with two
machineguns. The ammunition payload isn't as high as might be desired but
Streak technology ensures none is lost.


In C configuration the Thor returns to fitting an autocannon to the turret,
this time supported by a LRM rack for use in air-defense as well as the
occasional long avenue or parkland engagement.

Carrying almost half-again the SRM tubes of the Thor B, the D configuration
lacks Streak technology and compensates by mounting missile launchers facing in
all directions and carrying a heavier ammunition payload.

The Thor E is another non-urban configuration, instead providing Air Defense
with two LB-X autocannon and two medium lasers - one in the turret and one
forward-firing.


Battle History:
The Thor saw action on Arcadia when the Steel Vipers made a bid to seize a Star
Adder ammunition factory. A point of Thor A softened up the Steel Viper trinary
with long range fire and lured them into a point-blank engagement outside the
factory. It was at this point the rest of the vehicle Star, evenly divided
between Thor B and Thor D, exited buildings and launched massive salvos. While
most of the 'Mechs survived the salvo, many were seriously damaged and unable
to resist when the other half of the defending binary - five assault 'Mechs -
cut them off from withdrawal. The Star Adders completed the humliation by
revealing that all forty-five warriors particpating were freeborn.


Deployment:
The relatively low cost of converting a SLDF Thor into the omni-vehicle version
has allowed them to proliferate rapidly within Star Adder garrison units.

Overview:
Leopard Armor's Demon fighting vehicle was the SLDF's standard fighting vehicle
and considerable numbers survived in storage. The Hells Horses were long-time
users of the Demon and the proposal to refit a fusion-powered wheeled combat
vehicle for a Quicksilver category calling for almost exactly that wasn't a
tremendous investment, even alongside more radical (and expensive) projects.


Capabilities:
The newly named Durga retains the turret, chassis and drive systems of the
Demon but the first step taken in the conversion was to replace the original
PanzerSlab 2 with Composition G5 ferrofibrous, which provides almost 20% more
protection for the same tonnage.

In light of the proposed urban role the additional protection is mostly applied
to the sides and rear since dense terrain leaves it almost inevitable that the
Durga will find itself engaged from all directions at some point. For the same
reason a powerful electronic suite is mounted to help detect enemy units behind
cover or sheltering behind ECM.

The primary configuration appears to closely resemble the Demon at first
glance, but the primary turret weapon is actually a high-speed autocannon with
the other weapon systems replaced with advanced Clan equivalents.

The Durga A anticipates hostile infantry by mounting six machine guns. The
turret carries a LB 10-X autocannon, much admired for its range, flexibility
and hitting power, alongside a pair of pulse lasers. The missile launcher on
the right fender is equipped with Artemis IV targeting.

Doubling up the front-mounted SRMs, the Durga B reserves the turret for a
triple LRM launcher. Unlike their Spheroid equivalents, these missiles are
effective at point-blank range and also allow the Durga to provide covering
fire through long avenues and other open terrain.

In C configuration, the Durga moves SRMs into the turret and pairs three
launchers with three pulse lasers for effective mid-range punch. Anti-infantry
capability is provided by a flamer. This configuration seems to be intended for
anti-battle armour work.

The Durga D is almost the same as the primary configuration but restores the
Demon's turreted Gauss Rifle. Slightly lower ammunition demands and a lighter
missile system allows it to be fitted with A-pods in all aspects, which would
be a nasty surprise to infantry attempting a close assault.

Overview:
Named for the Celtic Goddess of Armies the Cichol was developed by Clan Diamond
Shark around the Rotunda scout vehicle as a one-man urban tank.

Closely resembling a civilian vehicle to camouflage it among urban traffic -
even an evacuated neighbourhood will invariably have dozens of cars left behind
- the Cichol can sting hard and then disappear into concealment for repeated
attacks. The Diamond Sharks admit that such a tactic isn't in keeping with Clan
honour - but since only dezgra would take a fight into a city, the Cichol is
for situations where zellbrigen and other customs are likely to have been
discarded.

The Cichol is marketed not only as a combat vehicle but also as a suitable unit
for police patrols... something that even drew momentary interest from Clan
Smoke Jaguar. (The interest ended in a bloody Trial of Grievance within the
Clan).


Capabilities:
Replacing the LTV 160 reactor with a smaller VOX 80 of a kind found in many
SLDF MASH units (very rarely made use of by the Clans) provides the Cichol with
a top speed only slightly lower than that of the heavier Rotunda and cuts the
weight by almost a third while freeing up space for 2.5 tons of ferrofibrous
protection and double this in pod-space.

This payload is controlled by a single operator in a cockpit much less spacious
than it appears. Weapons are concealed behind armoured panels.

The most popular configuration sports two forward firing lasers and a missile
launcher, for optimal firepower against 'Mechs and tanks. For dealing with
conventional infantry (or rioting crowds) an alternative payload is four
machineguns along with an active probe to detect ambushes. The Cichol A also
carries an anti-missile system to protect it as it drives away from an
engagement.

The Cichol B is a dedicated scout unit with not only an active probe but also
ECM and a launcher for six NARC pods. These are less important for drawing in
missiles - this configuration has no true weapons - and more because each
target hit by a pod can then be tracked easily even through dense cover.

The Cichol C is the other main combat platform with two missile launchers and a
pulse laser. Although a tactically balanced layout, the overall lack of punch
makes it relatively limited in deployments.

Overview
Following the battle of Tukkayid, Khan Fletcher was faced with a dilemma. He had managed to build up Clan Hell's Horses and was ready to participate in the Home Clan Coalition to either relaunch Operation Revival or to increase the power of his Clan by using his newly acquired strength.
In both cases, he knew that he would have to face the wrath of opponents, the other Clans or the people of the Inner Sphere and that he needed new tools for his Warriors, tools that would allow them to be like that “New Clan/That challenged even the mightiest of 'Mechs.”
Knowing that his Clan had been founded by “a true warrior, leader of men, not of machines.”, he issued a challenge to all the members of Clan Hell's Horses, asking for a vehicle that would be able to defend any possession against anyone attacking it.

One f of the many tanks received was a true urban combat specialist based on an old close-support artillery design, the Vali. Born from the anger of some Clan members believing that it was high time to return where they belonged, the new vehicle was christened Katyayini from the goddess of Vengeance and Victory.

Capabilities
Taking a note from the Vali, the Katyayini is an upgrade of this makeshift vehicle losing all kind of artillery to focus on its new mission : urban combat.
The first step in modifying the wheeled design was to give it a Fusion Engine to increase its flexibility by allowing it to mount all kinds of weapons. Since its focus was to keep as much weight as possible for the weapons and thinking that its role as an urban fighter didn't require it to move at higher speed than 64 kph (with the extra mobility provided by the wheeled system).
Since it was going to be involved in heavy fightings, the armour was maximised with an impressive 9.5 tons of Ferro-Fibrous (almost 25% of the total weight).
Deciding that every ton was precious, the Scientists decided to drop the fixed turret, so common in OmniVehicles but to give the Katyayini a 5 tons infantry bay, enough to hold a Star of normal infantry or a Point of Elementals, an advantage in the restricted battlefield it was designed for.
This left the vehicle with 12 tons available for the different weapons.

The Primary Configuration is a typical infantry support tank with a focus on precise firepower to limit the side destructions so typical of urban environments.
With a Large Pulse Laser and a Streak SRM-6 in the Front, it can deal with all kinds of opponents with a few precise shots.
One Machine Gun on each side coupled to an Active Probe to detect hidden threads is enough to deal with surprise attacks from opponents not willing to take its full frontal firepower.

Alpha and Beta Configurations are quite similar in purpose with one big gun designed to make as many damage as possible. Alpha Configuration is flexible with a LB10-X and two tons of ammo, allowing it to deal with all kinds of targets while Beta Configuration is designed to take down bigger targets thanks to its UAC/10.

Gamma Configuration is designed to be able to repel infantry heavy attacks or to hold at bay an angry population.
With a total of 4 SRM-6 (two in the Front and one on each side) and three tons of different and specialised ammunitions (a mix between normal, frag and Inferno seems to be the norm) backed up by Machine Guns arranged in a 360° fashion, it is intimidating and more than able to make people think twice before getting near it.

Delta Configuration is the fire-support Configuration with three LRM-10 backed up by 3 ER Small Lasers to prevent anyone from taking them down if they ever run out of ammo (something that might take some time thanks to the 3 tons of ammo it carries).

Battle History
A perfect example of the use of the Katyayini in combat happened on Niles when elements of Eta Galaxy defended some of the precious factories against a massive raid by Clan Steel Viper.
Knowing well what the weakness of their opponents was, Clan Hell's Horses launched their  Katyayini in a headhunting operation among the urban surroundings of the targeted factories.
Using ad-hoc units made of several tanks and unwilling to give Clan Steel Viper the benefit of Zellbringen (since they had decided to strike directly through the cities with no concern for those living there), Eta Galaxy was able to overheat their opponents 'Mechs thanks to the clever use of Gamma Configurations before letting Primary and Beta Configurations Katyayini finish them.

Faced by Dezgra accusations, Eta Galaxy answered with audio intercepts between different 'Mechs of Clan Steel Viper showing their unwillingness to use Zellbringen at all as they “had to capture this plant, no matter what the costs might be. After all, we are only facing a pack of small horses.”

Deployment
Mainly deployed in defensive units and thank to its relative low price, the Katyanyini is a common sight in the whole Clan Hell's Horses Touman and so far and in spite of Trials by other Clans, it remains so.

And even if the picture like the Michael is 100% like their ancestor, here is a look at it.

Clan Hells horses has had a long reputation of expertise involving Omnivehicles and as such threw themselves wholeheartedly into the development of a new platform, relying on future sales and trades of the Epona to offset the cost of development.  Thier desire was to create a heavy class wheeled assault vehicle that could, reasonably, fulfill multiple combat and support roles for the clans, potentially replacing numerous utility vehicles such as the Indra, Hachiman, Ku, and even the vaunted Huitzilopochtli.

Starting with the unique, slender Magna 260 Fusion engine found on the Crusader (the SLDF's "Standard" Heavy Battlemech, such as it could be for the size of the SLDF) the orientation of the engine was changed to a horizontal plane that rested on the floor between the undercarriage and crew compartment.  Driver, Communications officer, and commander positions were installed in the forward section while the rear of the vehicle was armored walls and computer connections.  this gives rise to the most curious omnivehicle system ever created.  pre constructed combat package modules are constructed wholly seperate of the vehicle and installed on the rectangular rear slot behind the command compartment, each with pre installed electronics and mechanical packages suitable tor the equipment being used.  being based on a central frame each module can be customized into almost any other (some difficulties exist with conversion of the Command/Control/Communications and Artillery modules being converted in the field to differently blocks).  Still whole module replacement can be fulfilled in roughly two thirds the time of component replacement of traditional omnivehicles, while component swapping matches, or adds mere minutes to traditional maintenance and field repair time.  Even with the segmented nature of the vehicle, Command and combat crews can move back and forth freely between the compartments, and armor integrity is not compromised, permitting the twelve tons of armor protection to remain in place.

Named Yahweh, after a pre Abrahamic Cannanite war God (later adopted by the Hebrew tribes as a placeholder name for the Abrahamic God)  This new vehicle was created to be the Lord of all it surveyed on the battlefield.

The Primary Configuration is a twin cannoned line breaker designed to tear open armored opponents and then tear them down. Alternate A is a deep binned (by clan standards) Missile support boat, and configuration B is a close combat destroyer.  Configuration C is meant to haul and protect either two points of Battle armor or a full star of unarmored Riot Troops (with the capability of being converted into a Paddy wagon for Paramilitary police).  two fire support options are geared for Anti Aricraft duty and artillery operations

Perhaps the most notable configurations are the ones not geared fro direct combat but are expected to be deployed to every Galaxy and eventually every cluster.  The aptly Lettered H Configuration is a Mobile combat hospital that can see to the medical needs of an entire cavalry cluster.  the other notable configurations the E , which is a one vehicle universal combat engineering platform, able to push, lift or remove obstacles as well as deploy a single heavy bridge for the rest of the cluster to cross.  Finally the D Configuration is a full command control and communications suite, a valuable asset to any galaxy commander who does not wish to be tied to their dropship for such services.

However we still have a full day to go so there are room for more. So far there is only a single Ultralight Vehicle.  ;)

Overview:
Clan Ice Hellion are responsible for the Sun Wukong.

The word 'blame' has been thrown around.

There's absolutely no logic to the design - it's barely armoured and carries
barely more armour than an Elemental... which is where light begins to dawn in
the observers.


Clan Ice Hellion fields Sun Wukong in points of five for high speed urban
operations. Unsurprisingly, racing them has also become a popular 'training
exercise' even for warriors who usually scorn vehicles. Class 30 Fusion engines
aren't exactly common but in the absence for any alternative military purpose
for them the Sun Wukong can expect at least a short production run.


Capabilities:
The Sun Wukong can top 130 kph on tarmac and carry a third of its weight in
payload. What it can't do is survive a hit from a Clan medium laser or anything
with more punch.

The first three configurations all field laser arrays taking advantage of the
reactor's internal cooling. Deploying two extended range mediums, a single
medium pulse laser or four extended range small lasers is enough to make any
one of these configurations an nuisance to heavier units - and a full point a
credible threat.

In C configuration the Sun Wukong uses an active probe to hunt on behalf of its
peers and machineguns to keep infantry in check.

The Sun Wukong D is the final option, mounting only a single forward laser -
because it's intended to carry an elemental behind the pilot. A full point of
the bikes can thus quickly deploy their own number of Elementals (while in
theory additonal elementals can cling to the flanks, this hasn't been
successfully employed in practise.)

I did have a thought after I'd gone to bed that possibly the Sun Wukong should only be piloted by Elementals in full armour.

OVERVIEW:

The Merchant caste of Clan Diamond Shark is always looking to expand into the smaller niches of the weapons market, especially if
it can benefit the Clan. Seeking to crack into the light vehicle market and offer a more manageable option to the Shamash.
Using the ancient and ubiquitous Wheeled APC as a base, the old engine is removed and replaced by the same Standard 60-series
fusion found in the Shamash, which allows the Serbon to reach speeds nearing a 130kph. While slower than the Shamash,
the Serbon is less difficult to drive thanks to it's wheeled platform and it is more useable in varying types of terrain and easier
to maintain. To protect the Serbon, two-and-a-half tons of ferro-fibrous armor is mounted to shield the vehicle and the lone
warrior who pilots it.

This left three-and-a-half tons for a turret and weapons. Once the 500kg was devoted to the configurable and remotely-controlled
turret, three tons of weapons could be mounted (A ton more than the heavier and faster Shamash. Thanks to the use of the
fusion, it became econimcal to ficus on the inclusion of energy weapon on every configuration.


CONFIGURATIONS:

With the limitation of only three tons of podsapce to work with, the Diamond Shark design team still managed
to come up with six workable configurations.


PRIME: A rather simple design to come up with, a pair of extended range medium lasers are mounted in the turret.
These lasers are mated to a targeting computer to allow for better combat efficiency.

A: This is a scout vehicle fitted with turret-mounted active probe and a target acquisition unit for beyond LOS artillery
units. A pair of extended small lasers are the only weapons left to the lone warrior

B: A light strike unit similar to the Prime, a twin-tube Streak launcher replaces one of the medium lasers and the
targeting computer mounted in the Prime.

C: A medium pulse laser and a pair of machineguns make up the weapons in this model. It can be used as a flanker,
scout or an infantry support unit.

D: Two medium lasers, one extended range and the other a pulser, provide the offensive firepower of this hunter-killer
version of the Serbon

E: An infantry support vehicle makes up the final configuration as three small pulse lasers provide sufficient fire support
for dismounted infantry in urban or restrictive terrain.

Why not link this afterwards to a plan of the Merchant Caste to sell them to the Inner Sphere (as it doesn't look really Clan like with the TAG (apart from some of them))? I know it will go beyond the timeframe of the contest but the Sharks are cunning merchants.

Well I have logged quite a lot of overtime for the past couple of weeks. Sorry for the long delay here folks. Snow really does a number on me during these winter months and more is scheduled tomorrow. Here is hoping this review makes sense. We had another good turn out for the Wheeled Urban Combatant with 9 entries by 5 different designers. There were three big things I was looking for in a winner this time around. First off I wanted to find a design that would start filling out one of the unfilled mass categories for the Clans. For this contest that meant there were four possibilities; 45 tons, 55 tons, 70 tons, 80 tons. Second I was looking for that +2 MP at flank speed boost on the roads which can be found at 4/6 (5/8), 6/9 (7/11), or 8/12 (9/14) unless I am misremembering the rules. Finally there is the Quicksilver mantra of using existing war materiel. So with that in mind lets get to it.

N/A. Gurzil (masterarminas)
This 30 ton design by the Hell’s Horses was based on the SLDF Chevalier and fit the two person (1 warrior and 1 tech) crew concept. With a 160 Fusion (6/9) from the Corvis BattleMech it moves a little slower than its predecessor but has impressive capabilities. A 4.5 ton of Ferro-Fibrous (86 factor) armored shell provides solid protection. An integral Active Probe was added presumably for superior reconnaissance capabilities which would fit nicely for such a Light Wheeled OmniVehicle. With 10 tons of pod space its 1 ton Turret could effective carry its entire payload. I loved the Gurzil name from the Berber War Gold unfortunately it had no fluff and was ultimately disqualified.

8. Sun Wukong (drakensis)
This 6 ton Ice Hellion attack bike is another solid ultralight concept which was excellently put together. A 30 Fusion Engine (8/12) speeds this OmniVehicle into combat with only a ton of Ferro-Fibrous (19 factor) for protection. What kind of armor are we talking about here especially on a wide open vehicle like a motorcycle. Obviously there is no turret on this motorcycle which maximizes what armor there is for this Elemental delivery system. This concept is very intriguing for me. Could such an attack bike be capable of such high speed insertions especially for headhunting missions? Thereafter it could support such attacks but I wonder about its practicality. With 2 tons of pod space it has nice firepower for its size. Personally I would have liked to have seen a flamer configuration to scare the hell out of rioters or conventional infantry. Not bad drakensis, I like this one a lot. I will have to study the concept for potential uses.

7. Serbon (Abele)
A little more practical 10 ton Ultralight comes to us from the Diamond Sharks who based their design upon the ubiquitous Wheeled APC. Using the 60 Fusion Engine (8/12) from the Shamash gives you a readily available power plant and superior speed. With 2.5 tons of Ferro-Fibrous (48 factor) it has good protection for its size even though a half ton Turret (5 ton capacity) spreads this armor out over a wider area. With 3 tons of pod space this little bugger ain’t too shabby on the battlefield. I don’t know if the Clans would place a targeting computer on such a small design and Mini weaponry in development could help increase this designs potential capabilities. Not bad at all Abele.

6. Kartikeya (Abele)
The 80 ton SLDF Rhino on wheels is an interesting submission by the Ice Hellion Clan. Our heaviest entry (which filled the 80 ton category) it was also the slowest with its 220 Fusion Engine (3/5). However, there is no such power plant in production with the Clans and modifying the existing 240 from the Rhino seems pretty complex if not implausible. With 15.5 tons of Ferro-Fibrous (297 factor) it is the most well protected design not to mention its offensive capabilities which make it a true Urban Assault Vehicle. With 30 tons of pod space it can carry 25 of those tons in its 2.5 ton turret. This impressive potential firepower is added to by a 5 ton integral Infantry Bay which can deploy additional assets. Additionally the design is well named after the Hindu God of War. The fluff was alright with the contention that the Hellions use slower vehicles for garrison duty. I found that assertion plausible although it is hard to believe any Clan would chop up their roads with tracked vehicles. Sorry Abele, I like the design but there are a couple of issues preventing it from rising higher.

5. Durga (drakensis)
This 60 ton Hell’s Horses design is a modularized Demon from the SLDF glory days. Already equipped with a 220 Fusion Engine (4/6) this new Omni entry keeps much of the original Star League design intact. While the 220 is not in production you would have a stockpile from cached Demons that would facilitate early work. However you would run into problems with mass production without a source in the Homeworlds. Replacing the original PanzerSlab 2 (standard armor) with 10 tons of Composition G5 Ferro-Fibrous (191 factor) upgrades the overall protection (except for the front) for urban combat. Retaining the 1.5 ton Turret (15 ton capacity) this OmniVehicle would have 22.5 tons of pod space for weapons and equipment. This does not include an integral Active Probe and ECM Suite which would be invaluable in such tight quarter warfare. I like the configurations as well especially C for its close quarter firepower. Very nice and it is aptly named for the Hindu Goddess of Victory (Good over Evil). While the fluff is alright it was thin especially in regards to overview. Wish more was mentioned about the four person crew, deployment, or something. With the engine currently not in production, the 60 ton weight class already filled, and the thin fluff I have placed this design midway but have high hopes to see it one day in the field for the Clans. 

4. Cichol (drakensis)
The sheer awesomeness of this Ultralight Diamond Shark entry, and who couldn’t see them as car salesmen, is just great! A 14 ton design built around the SLDF Rotunda which is smaller and sleeker than its predecessor it bears a resemblance to something from the 1980s. Stealing the 80 Fusion Engine (7/11) from MASH units is probably the worst angle on this design but it does work. I was expecting a Molecular Bonded Shell but 2.5 tons of Ferro-Fibrous (48 factor) will have to due. Designed as a large patrol car it has no turret maximizing protection and far out doing its predecessor. With 5 tons of pod space you can do some interesting things including Configuration A which gave me that James Bond or Spyhunter feel. Hey, it would be funny if the Watch issued this to field agents. Almost wished you had named it Kitt and tried to justify it based on some thin reason. However the Celtic Goddess of Armies makes for a fine moniker. I won’t lie, loved this design. Concept is solid and most of all fun!

3. Katyayini (Ice Hellion)
This 40 ton Hell’s Horses entry based on the Vali developed by the SLDF in the last days of the Reunification War takes a dedicated artillery vehicle and turns it into a multi-propose urban combatant. A new 140 Fusion Engine (4/6) replaces the 140 ICE on the original but from where? This power plant could be from the Howler (Baboon) BattleMech already in production by the Clans. In the future it helps to find an existing source like this and point it out in fluff. With 9.5 tons of Ferro-Fibrous (180 factor) it is very well protected especially given the fact it has no turret further maximizing available armor. Designed as an Infantry Fighting Vehicle it comes with a 5 ton Infantry Bay standard which could deploy troopers right into the heart of battle. With 12 tons of pod space I like all the possibilities even without a turret. Primary Configuration is very nice mixing a good main armament (Large Pulse and Streak SRM 6) with machine gun support and Active Probe sensors. Swapping an LB-X 10 for an Ultra AC/10 is a given for two other Configurations. Named for another Hindu Goddess, this one Vengeance or Victory, it is doubly suited. I like your concept and fluff. Great job on the bronze medal.

2. Yahweh (JPArbiter)
This 70 ton Hell’s Horses innovation appears to be a completely new design and since none of the competition is currently in production it must be considered. Using a 260 Fusion Engine (4/6) pulled from old Crusader BattleMechs is an idea but it is already in production for the Fire Scorpion BattleMech as well. With 12 tons of Ferro-Fibrous (230 factor) it is a well protected Urban Assault Vehicle certainly. Its 2 ton Turret (20 ton capacity) can hold much of its 25 tons of pod space. The configurations are both diverse and simply fantastic. I like Primary with its Large Pulse, LB-X, LRM main battery supported by machine guns and B is absolutely devastating at close range. Then you get into E and H where you find this OmniVehicle really can do it all, great job. The Yahweh name works here and it also gets you back to the Hebrew theme mentioned in Quicksilver Program 9 with the Kidon. Despite its new design you came very close to winning the whole contest but one design beat you out. Silver medal!

1. Thor (drakensis)
This 55 ton Star Adder entry is simply an upgraded SLDF Thor which slides into the Clan Vehicle Naming Conventions nicely. Using the original 255 Fusion Engine (5/8) from the original SLDF Thor is also a hit with me. Frequently used on 85 ton ‘Mechs this power plant is currently in production with the Clans for the Thunder Stallion and the Blood Kite. Quicksilver has already expanded its need for the 255 with the Stone Lion OmniMech and the Kubulai OmniFighter so production seems to be there. Then there is also the possibility of salvage from cached Crocketts, Longbows or destroyed Stalkers from the InnerSphere. Replacing the original InnerSphere ferro plating with 7.5 tons of Clan Ferro-Fibrous (143 factor) already in production for the Ishtar is also another excellent use of existing materials. An expanded 1.5 ton Turret (15 ton capacity) can carry much of the design’s 18 tons of pod space which gives us some awesome possibilities. Your fluff from the back handed slap at the Smoke Jaguars to the defeat of the Steel Vipers seems spot on. I really can not argue the cost savings and the use of existing materials which cached Thor Artillery Vehicles present is very intriguing. Seamlessly transitioning from the SLDF to the Clans is very appealing too, good legacy tie in there. We have also seen Omni Kits developed for many Zombie OmniMechs as part of Quicksilver that modularize existing designs so why not one for Vehicles? Congrats drak on the win for the Thor Urban Assault Vehicle.

Another good contest gang, thanks for all your hard work. I really liked the Ultralights created for this competition. Good food for thought going forward on the concept. Now I am off to kick start the next competition before it starts snowing. Enjoy the Super Bowl!

I had missed the fact tat you needed to say where your engine was coming from...  :'( Although I had try to convert an old design into something more useful.
And Takiro, I would say that the first 140 engines were from old Panthers.

It worked out alright Ice, it is more important to me that the Engine is currently in production by the Clans on the Homeworlds hence my recommendation on the Howler (Baboon). You do make an excellent point however concerning the Panther which would be another good source for the 140 power plant probably by way of salvage versus the InnerSphere.
