What do you think would be needed the most by the SLDF? A small recon flexible tank? Or a "cheap" MBT?

Would they even need a tank at all?

Reason I ask is the different way in which the SLDF deployed its armor units. They were not premier equipment to the Star League at least in my opinion. Even infantry got more love. This could be a Terran way of thinking given their invention of the BattleMech and its dominance of the battlefield. Fighters got some play too but armor always seemed like the after thought of the military to me.

My advice is to look at TRO 2750 as well as TRO 3058 and gauge what they had.

I agree with you, hence my question.
I could never find a decent MBT apart from the Manticore or the Von Luckner. The Merkava is fine but lacks a main gun.

Well then you are talking about designing a Main Battle Tank for the Star League. Problem, the SLDF is a Mech-centric force. Solution, a cheaper alternative to the standard answer that could be produced relatively easy. That concept I could see being particularly useful especially during the Amaris Coup when outside their comfort zone Kerensky would resort to such a design.

The SLDF vehicles we see in sourcebooks seem to be largely divided between fast recon hover tanks (Beagle, Lightning) and fire support (Rhino, Puma).
