Tank launching drones - from real to CBT
« on: March 07, 2023, 04:35:31 PM »

I was reading about a new tank project in Germany (well not the French-German one, the other) and I found out that " The KF51 can launch four reconnaissance quadcopters from the turret, allowing the tanks to conduct their own local reconnaissance. A drone launcher is built into the turret, capable of launching four Hero 120 loitering munitions. The Israeli-made Hero 120 has a flight time of 60 minutes and packs a nine-pound warhead. Hero 120 will allow Panther tanks to engage targets beyond their line of sight, such as behind hills and tree lines. "

I looked at the rules for drones in CBT and wondered how it would work.
Do you have any idea on how to do that?

Something like this?

The tank can defend itself against basic infantry and light armour I sacrificed Speed and weapons for the huge cargo space.

The cargo space can only carry 4 7 ton drones but I'd have a support vehicle nearby which can carry more.

The Drone controls weight in at 2 +0.5 tons per drone so this could control 6

Dragon Cat on CBT

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

The drone

This can take pretty pictures, and drop sensors giving you Recon while the M pod is the warhead. I don't know what the modifiers would be for a 7 ton 162kph drone hitting a target would be but I think it would be some nasty kinetic damage

Hard to envision drone warfare for me. I'd definitely give the edge to ComStar or the Word of Blake in this area though if I could.

You know, I think Red Pins was working on something like this for his New Clans Project.

Something like this?

Thanks. I was thinking more along the lines of a lighter MBT and lighter drones. I guess I will have to look into the Small Support Vehicle rules.

For now I was more on "is it feasible or not ?" If the answer is yes, I will try to think If it is worth something and who could use it (the Draconis Combine for C3 networks ? The Periphery to deal with a lack of aerial assets?...).
