Vehicles for a militia unit - quick question
« on: May 23, 2020, 01:55:07 PM »

I was just wondering what kind of combat vehicles would be used by a "standard" militia (standard meaning not a capital world or a rich world, I would say an average one)?

I can't make up my mind between real combat vehicles or support ones.

I'd go with combat vehicles- but ones like the Ferret, Scorpion, Hetzers, APCs, LRM/SRM Carriers, maybe Vedettes, Saladins, Saracens, Scimitars, Harassers and Pikes.  Almost certainly nothing with a Fusion engine and I doubt any heavy tanks. (Other then the SRM/LRM Carriers and Pike which are more fire support units then MBTs.)

Don't worry about that part. I have several ideas.

APCs and other Carriers like Autocannon ones would be winners. Aircraft and VTOLs are nice options too but don't forget about nautical or naval forces either.

Thanks for the advices but my focus is more should I take "support vehicles" or "combat vehicles"?
For the designs themselves, I have several ideas.

Depends on what your trying to do I guess Ice. We need more info if we are to provide more advice and I think you definitely have our attention.

By support vehicles do you mean infantry carriers and artillery pieces? Over combat vehicles like tanks and missile launchers?

By support, I don't mean infantry carriers or artillery but these https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Support_Vehicle and by combat vehicles these https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Combat_Vehicle

Combat vehicle are way more common under those definitions. Larger Support vehicles seem very specialized to me with world's that can afford them and whose environment suits them.

Pretty much.  Mind you, COMBAT support vehicles might be available.  Artillery, log vehicles, tanker trucks, APCs, all those service vees.  Prime movers to move damaged mechs, etc.
