A little idea I had some time ago.
As the Star League destabilised many covert programs started up in the
great houses. One such program was the "Fast courier" vessels. Officially a
civilian fast transport in reality it was a an interplanetary bomber designed
to hit targets on even heavily defended worlds with strategic weapons. The
Canary program started after the war of Davion succession and the name was
chosen particularly with the Draconis Combine in mind. Basically the Canary is
a very simple concept, a huge fusion drive able to run rings around any
defender except perhaps light ASF combined with enough armor to survive even
the heaviest naval weaponry was to give the ship enough survivability to
reach it's target and release it's main weapons.
The Canary, and it's counterparts in the other Successor states only
made up part of a percent of the AS and Naval forces in the inferno of the
first succession war but they caused an estimated 30% of all civilian
casualties and industrial destruction.
Several front companies operated the Canary class in various functions
like executive transport, mail ship and priority transport with modifications
made to the bomb-bays to fit the cover story. One version, the emergency medical
transport was short-lived when a reporter pointed out that at the acceleration
the Canary routinely pulled no patient in urgent need of medical aid was likely to
survive. The medical Canary made a comeback though as a rapid deployable ICU
unit. A few Canaries were refitted to an escort version with more weaponry
but this was not a satisfactory version since the enemy tended to ignore them
once they were identified. A last version was the military infantry transport
intended to insert commando teams on hostile worlds, several of this type
survived long enough in the war to be converted into bomber versions.
None of the ships survived the First Succession War, a whole squadron was
even destroyed on the ground by their DCMS counterparts during the Combines
offensive against the Federated Suns. There are no monument or hardly even a
line in the history books covering the war that mentions the Canary and their
crews. Their victories are dozens of dead worlds and the irradiated craters on
many hundreds of other worlds - their deaths were in the silence of space, the
fiery inferno of uncontrolled re-entry or in a nuclear flash from the
missiles of the desperate defenders.

Hmm, interesting. I'll have to give this one a second look. I was thinking of designing a DropFighter this weekend myself but this is a Dropbomber.

Considering that BTSD is in the middle of SW1 perhaps some guidelines for real strategic weaponry should be included at some level, a rule set for the new Threats perhaps?
This was the era of carpet nuking and bombs able to turn Mount Davion into Lake Davion as well as all the nasty B and C spicing in the NBC cake.

Gives new meaning to the old concept that the bomber will always get through.

I'd actually like to make some Small Craft that could serve as bombers.

Well it would not take much to get SCs to preform that task, use the ASF regs for aerodyne SC. Unlike heavy ASF a SC can pack enough speed to carry a proper bomb load even without internal bays.

The reason I'd like to see small craft get utilized for something other than shuttle duty. Would 5/8 do?
