A question to my compatriots. What do you think of The Society's military organization? Their Prime system consisting of Un, Trey, and Sept.

It's definitely different. I can't say that I'm a fan

for small unit tactics it is quite a brilliant method of organization, particularly for what amounts to a terrorist Milita with limited military grade resources.  the force multipliers of NOVA and Osteon/Septescemia configurations with Arrow IV artillery and weapons that function perpendicular to clan fighting style make it all the more viable even when outnumbered.

Deployment beyond a handful of septs however would be difficult at best, if only for Command and control and logistical purposes.  at that point the Clan, Comstar, or Star League methodology does better by virtue of economies of scale.

I agree for small operating forces supporting orbital strikes, bilogical attacks and taking advantage of infighting its great

For an occupation force/large scale fight I think it would be a lot more difficult with more small units than you can count but few strategic advances - one thing to the Society's advantage was their cell system meant small units were easier to use and hide against full scale Clan Galaxies I think they would struggle in open combat but then the system wasnt designed for that

If the Society had succeeded or if they had remained around as a Counter to the Homeworlds Clans I could have seen the development of a "Master" Nova system or an iNova (as in improved) for larger combat formations

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

I agree for limited strikes and goals. This system is great but like JPArbiter stated Clan,Comstar or Star League methodology does better by virtue of economies of scale.

Honestly I am not a fan.  There is a reason the number 12 is so prominent in military organization throughout both history and fiction, and that reason is tactical flexibility.  The number 12 can be broken into sub units of equal size by singles, 2, 3, 4, or 6 thus giving you the options of splitting the force to suit needs.  IMHO the Inner Sphere/Star League deployment methodology at that level offers, for its size, an unprecedented level of flexility, and that is if breaking to equal sub units.  The capability to Harry with 2 or 3 independent small units and the solidification of half of the company for a stand and city is always an option too.  I don't like the rigid lance structure, but it does fit giving each "by two" a wingman so to speak, whih is not bad thinking at all.

this is why when organizing the EDF the smallest tactical unit High Test and I came up with was the Combat Pair and not the Lance.  Two Identical designs or two intrinsicly complimenting designs, such as a Centurion and Dervish, or two Centurions were the norm
