Munchkin Moments
« on: June 25, 2013, 06:50:10 AM »

What is your most memorable Munchkin Moment, either perpetrated by yourself, or on you by another?

When I Munchkin, only the very best in TOTAL SPAMMING will do! I really can be the THOMAS HOGARTH of Much when the mood strikes.  Don't get me wrong, I love a hard fight I will likely loose, but every so often, one has to pander to one's god complex. My best was one of two.

First was playing MW2, I had a super-Dire Wolf loaded with Gauss Rifles and Large Pulse Lasers, unlimited heat and ammo and was facing fifteen Dashers which I had stripped the armour from, given a MG and a bigger engine.  I killed a Trinary in about a minute and was promoted straight to uber-Khan of the Universe, before leading the Star League in its war against Zur and the Ko-Dan Armada.

Second was running the entire MechCommander game with unlimited artillery and making it look like the SLN was carpet bombarding every scenario.  Smoke Jaguars did not stand a chance, I was promoted to Victor Stenier-Awesome, led the FC to total victory and created a Harem of all the other House Lords daughters.

You know there is something wrong with the FWL, when Word's spell check changes Impavido to Impetigo and Zechetinu to Secretion.

I was challenged by an unnamed author-type to make something that could take on a the Hellstar, star vs. star.
Thus the Svartalfa LRM was born. I've had a few doozies, but I think that takes the cake.

for me, my most shameless moment of Munchkinisim was OUT MUNCHKINING another player who wanted to rock out a Battalion Level game balanced by BV.  he brought out a group of mechs that included a demi company of Arrow IV equipped Goliaths.  I brought a Leopard Pocket Warship and Opacus Venatori. (with MD Implants)

That artillery group lasted all of four turns while the Manei Domini Danced around, and then waded in among the support fire he could do nothing about.  shows what happens when you give me enough BV to work with.

WHAT NO ONE EVER TOLD ME THAT!

Back at university I was in a Mechwarrior campaign built around a handful of mercs who hated the Clans and joined forces to form a unit that would only take jobs that pitted them against the invaders (this was late 3050s).

With a mission like that you either get very good in a hurry or you die in an embarassingly fashion. This was a few rules iterations ago, so there were some loopholes that we could exploit that have since been closed.

For example, we converted dozens of YellowJacket VTOLs to carry Arrow IV launchers instead of Gauss Rifles. The Clans hated our artillery with a passion - they could almost never find them but any time they concentrated their forces... boom! Barrage on top of them.

And then there were the anti-elemental Assault Mechs: Atlas chassis packing a Long Tom Cannon that plastered Elementals from outside their effective range and generally shredded them any time they ventured into range.

The capper on this was the command lance of six PCs, each an elite mechwarrior with equivalent skills in some area (tactics, training, logisitics...) and with a few spare mechs each to be filled out by loyal adherents we'd picked up. My PC's preferred Mech was his modified-Banshee although he was scary enough outside of it (he once captured a Jade Falcon Marauder IIC after ejecting  (with 5 kills already that battle), landing his parachute on the back of the 'Mech and blowing the cockpit's hatch to get at the Mechwarrior inside).

Inside the Banshee? Let's just put it this way.

One battle, in close terrain, an entire Star of Clan assault Mechs closed in on him while the rest of the Lance were leading their own parts of the battle. He fired up his TSM, opened fire with seven Clan Medium Lasers (mix of ER and Pulse) hooked up to a Targeting Computer and waded in with a Hatchet. It took three turns for him to destroy all five Mechs.

Munchkin, oh yes. But a lot of fun.

A head Hunter star of Clan Wolf, thought they found a unguarded tunnel into my base, turned out to be a buried HNGR they turned into shrapnel rounds when the techs fired it for testing the viabilty of the HNGR for planet based PDF lol
