Tight Stream EMP- the Ultimate Air Superiority weapon?
« on: February 18, 2014, 11:29:49 AM »

I am looking at the rules for TSEMP, and I see how it affects aircraft 200 tons and under.  now the effects varry widely, but you can get better results if multiple TSEMPs hit a single target.  the golden goose of course is a total shutdown of the target.

so lets say you take an assault Omnifighter, say an Eisenstrum or Shiva and load down with three or four of these things.  the result would be a good chance of lawn darting enemy fighters, especially at low altitude, with minimal fuss.  such an aircraft would be largely defensless and need more conventional support to protect it's tail.  but the theory still seems sound to me.

now lets apply that theory to some of the assault shuttles we have seen like the Caeleron or Suzumebachi.  Smart or Evil?

Basics on the TSEMP weapons having not seen the full rules sound badly broken to me have done since I first heard about weapon

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

the major balancing factors are mass, lack of damage, massive heat, short range, and the fact that you need to roll on a 2D6 table for effects.  you need a 9 or better for most units.  you can increase the odds by +1 per additional TSEMP weapon that hits in a single turn (to a max of +4)

it is a massive risk, but either distributing TSEMPs among a squadron, or creating TSEMP "assault gunboats" can make atmospheric combat... interesting.

Admittedly I have not looked at the rules enough to recall but how about mounting them on a vee and using them as AA?

energy weapons shooting down High Altitude aircraft in the rules is tricky at best, Missiles and Autocannons are better suited.
