Manufacturing Sites. There are a few possibilities here including the Free Rasalhague Republic or the ComGuard Protectorate. However, massive investment only got started there after the Word of Blake seized Terra in 3057 which hasn’t happened here yet. Currently we are in late 3053 and the Terran Corridor is already seeing a massive boost from the Martial Accords.

Which is why my fluff for the Grumium Creations site suggests that ComStar had already been researching upgrades to the Cyclops before Tukayyid, and once they "got their hands on" C3 technology from the Combine, simply slotted it into their existing design concepts, and found a convenient place to begin manufacture.

Grumium is ideal in this alternate universe because it's NOT within the purview of either the Combine or the Commonwealth.  Terra, despite being independent, is smack-dab in the heart of the Federated Commonwealth, and I bet Comstar is not super eager to have the Fox's little spies crawling through any manufacturing plants they set up near Terra.

Not bad Hominid Mk II! The only thing is the Streak SRM-6 is not yet available to the InnerSphere at this time. Unfortunately that makes you ineligible for this contest but not to worry there is time to change it if you like. You can simply replace it with Streak SRM-2s. Plus I love fluff so if there is a story behind your design and how it fits into the Salient Horizon universe that is a must too. Please let me know if you need any assistance or advise.

(nods)

I was pretty tired this morning when I dug the Cyclops file out and posted it. (I'm tired most of the time to one degree or another because of serious issues with insomnia.) I really didn't feel up to tinkering with it at all then. Sorry about that. However, it's a sufficiently straightforward approach already that only minimal tinkering seems necessary now... .

Five years or so down the line, the three Streak SRM-2s could probably be stripped out in favour of a single Streak SRM-6 in a field refit if desired.

Edit:
Forgot to mention... IIRC, I envisioned this model as lacking the celebrated Tacticon B-2000 battle computer. I have the impression from the setting parameters that, in-universe, most decision-makers would feel that the Tacticon or an equivalent system is essential for the Cyclops if it's to be worth the trouble of putting it back into production at all. In that case, in order to let the Tacticon operate to its full potential, this model might need a more versatile comm system than the standard GC Wave 12B that Grumium seem to slap on everything they build, but if so I'm afraid I can't think what to recommend.

Putting an artillery piece on a back-line HQ unit like this seems perfect, and the gun is also ideal for taking on Clan Elemental headhunting points.  Man, I hate Elementals -- but a 90t Mech just doesn't have the speed to be a battle-armor killer.  However, if those battle-armor units obligingly come to you... well, me and my 20/10 area-of-effect blast weapon is going to have a field day.

Type: CP-11-S Cyclops
Production: Free Rasalhague Republic/ComGuard (Grumium Creations, Grumium)

The rediscovery of the Grey Death Memory Core led a number of firms to attempt to restart production of the Cyclops, and particularly of its famed holographic B-2000 battle computer, but it was Grumium Creations, a small Rasalhague armaments firm, that surprised everyone when they unveiled new production Cyclops models in late 3053, directly resupplying both the shattered Kungsarme and the ComGuard, with new and fully functional B-2000 computers.  It is widely assumed that Comstar provided the necessary technical expertise and design blueprints in order to jump-start new ‘Mech manufacturing on Grumium.

The CP-11-S is a variant of the 11-E series also in production by Grumium, using a PlasmaStar 270 fusion engines (typically used in Aerospace Fighters, of a type produced in the Terra system under Comstar’s watchful eye) and seventeen and half tons of Starshield “Special” standard armor for the maximum effective protection for this 90-ton behemoth.  However, unlike the E-series, which uses a Stormvanger HV-7ES Endo Steel chassis, the 11-S uses the original Stormvanger HV-7 standard-frame chassis., saving internal space for the massive weapons system it carries.

The primary weapon fitted to the 11-S is a DAT/96 Sniper Artillery Piece, a model manufactured solely by Terran firms such as Mitchel Vehicles and Grumman Industries.  The massive gun takes up almost the entire right side of the Cyclops, and has an effective range of 9 kilometers, enabling the 11-S to contribute to even a distant battlefield while commanding in the back lines – but it is just as capable of highly destructive burst-fire direct-fire (or C3-directed indirect-fire) attacks at ranges up to 510 meters, comparable to a standard-grade PPC.  The weapons system would be particularly devastating against units of Clan battle-armor, such as the standard headhunter teams it appears this Cyclops is intended to directly counter.  Two tons of ammunition, contained in CASE-protected bins in the left torso, provide reasonable battlefield endurance.

The DAT/96 is paired with a Holly-20 LRM rack in the left shoulder, fed by three rounds of CASE-protected ammmunition, adding to its long-range bite – and again capable of indirect fire, guided through its C3 network.  A single Starflash Medium Laser in the left forearm provides a modicum of backup firepower in a pinch (or when out of ammunition).  Finally, a Master C3 system in the left torso acts as the lynchpin of the Cyclop’s small unit command capability, and enables the ‘Mech’s support fire.  A linked Guardian ECM in the center torso makes the 11-S surprisingly stealthy, while also enabling counter-counter measures to keep the C3 network functional when facing enemy ECM.

The 90t breakpoint is the last point where you get the most ‘efficient’ hatchet weight.  And no effective hatchet design can afford to go slower than 5/8 (and even then, I don’t think that it’s nearly fast enough).  Fortunately, the hatchet is just to get a little respect and hold off the enemy forces, while the actual mission of this Cyclops is to get close to the enemy and send that sweet, sweet targeting data back to its company-mates back in the C3 network.

Triple-Strength Myomer (6cr, 0t) 2RL/RT/LT/2LL

The CP-11-SQ is possibly the most unusual variant of the Cyclops being produced by Grumium – it uses a classic Stormvanger HV-7 standard chassis (thus, the “S” designation), and seventeen and a half tons of Starshield “Special” standard ‘Mech armor provide the maximum effective protection for the ‘Mech’s tonnage.  But unlike any of the other Grumium designs, which use a 270-rated engine, the SQ instead carries a Hermes 360XL, very likely imported from Krupp Stellar Technologies of Mars.  Combined with cutting-edge (and expensive) Triple-Strength Myomer bundles, the 11-SQ can hit speeds of up to 86kph, terrifyingly fast for a 90t assault ‘Mech, and capable of keeping pace with medium ‘Mechs and Clan heavy cavalry.  Four Geotec 300 jumpjets give this Cyclops even greater mobility, with 120 meter jump capability.

The 11-SQ is even more terrifying for its armament.  The speed and mobility, and the triple strength myomer bundles, are in service to the six-ton hatchet carried in the right arm of the ‘Mech.  With myomers fully engaged, the SQ can hit hard enough to carve through almost any ‘Mech in production.  Three Krupp Model 32 Large Lasers, spread across the torsos of the ‘Mech, provide the bulk of the firepower, and when combined with actively engaging (and disengaging) double heat sinks, can quickly overheat the Cyclops and maintain a high left of heat, in order to ensure the Triple-Strength Myomers engage.  Finally, a Holly-15 LRM rack was included for both long-range and short-range punch, fed by a generous three tons of ammunition.  The SQ appears to carry at least a ton of dead-fire missiles, really cementing the role of this Cyclops as a mid-ranged brawler.

Given its intended role – to act as a massive threat, damage sponge, and close to mid-ranged brawling – the Cyclops 11-SQ does not carry a Master C3 Console.  The expensive and vital system would be too vulnerable given this Cyclops’ role.  Instead, the SQ has a C3 slave system installed in the head, just behind the cockpit, and its primary role in a C3 company is to constantly transmit targeting data and telemetry to every member of its C3 network, all while terrifying and threatening the foe.  Kungsarme units apparently already have a nickname for this beast – the Jotnar – and quite a few Rasalhague (as well as ComGuard) pilots are expressing interest in piloting the ferocious SQ.

Cyclops CP-11-Q

Mass: 90 tons
Tech Base: Inner Sphere
Chassis Config: Biped
Rules Level: Tournament Legal
Era: Age of War/Star League
Tech Rating/Era Availability: E/D-F-D-A
Production Year: 2750
Cost: 9,258,510 C-Bills
Battle Value: 1,612

Chassis: Stormvanger HV-7 Standard
Power Plant: Hermes 360 Fusion Engine
Walking Speed: 43.2 km/h
Maximum Speed: 64.8 km/h
Jump Jets: None
    Jump Capacity: 0 meters
Armor: ProTec 12 Ferro-Fibrous w/ CASE
Armament:
    1 Dragon's Fire Gauss Rifle
    2 Delta Dart LRM-10s
2 Diverse Optics Type 10 Small Lasers
Manufacturer: Scarborough Manufacturers
    Primary Factory: Al Na'ir
Communications System: Olmstead 840
Targeting and Tracking System: Tacticon Tracer

Overview:
The first appearance of the Cyclops CP-11-Q caused alarm within the AFFC, who believed the Combine might have begun manufacture of new Cyclops using the famous battle computers. Alarmists suggested that such a development would boost the strategic capability of the DCMS measurably.

Further research has revealed that the Cyclops are in fact merely refits using technology shipped from the Free Worlds League and installed by Scarborough Manufacturing at a refitted combat vehicle repair facility on Al Na'ir.

Capabilities:
It isn't believed that Scarborough, primarily a vehicle manufacturer, is directly involved in the development of the refits. More probably, a 'Mech manufacturer lacking production facilities of their own has formed a partnership with Scarborough.

The upgrades replace the autocannon and SRM launcher with a gauss rifle and a second LRM launcher. The new Cyclops can bring a considerable amount of firepower to bear at ranges that even the Clans are unlikely to beat.

To accommodate these changes, the arm mounted lasers have been downgraded to small lasers - most mechwarriors dislike this, as it reduces options in a close range brawl. However, the Cyclops is expected to avoid such ranges if at all possible.

While the armour on the Cyclops has been completely replaced it is only slightly improved from its unimpressive normal coverage. Between this and limited ammunition, the refit isn't suited to extended campaigns.

Deployment:
The CP-11-Q is found within the DCMS and has begun to appear in mercenary units employed by them. Unless new production of the base chassis begins, it is likely that only a comparative handful will ever appear as the Cyclops remains quite rare.

Variants:
Some mechwarriors have asked that the arm-mounted lasers be removed entirely, preferring to rely on their 'Mech's fists at close quarters rather than 'popguns'. The saving in weight is usually used for additional armour but some DCMS Cyclops have been refitted with C3 slave units instead.

I really like the idea behind the artillery model. It goes great with a command mech with access to the Tech that the Cyclops has.

CP-11-Q CYCLOPS

Mass: 90 tons
Chassis: Stormvanger HV-7
Power Plant: GM 270
Cruising Speed: 32 kph
Maximum Speed: 54 kph
Jump Jets: None
   Jump Capacity: None
Armor: Mitchell Argon Ferro-Fibrous with CASE
Armament:
1 Poland Main Model A Gauss Rifle
1 Valiant Ballista Long Range Missile 20-Rack
1 RAMTech 1200X Extended Range Large Laser
3 RAMTech 800P Medium Pulse Lasers
Manufacturer: ABC Technologies
   Primary Factory: Caph (refits only)
Communications System: ABC Autocom 1980
Targeting and Tracking System: ABC Broadblast All-fire with Artemis IV FCS

Overview:
First Prince Hanse Davion inspired by the OTT-9Q refit of the Ostscout ordered a review of other specialized BattleMechs that could be similarly repurposed. The Cyclops having lost their special communications gear were quickly identified by this effort and ABC Technologies was tapped for the redesign. Taking this ninety-tonner from a Command Mech to Siege Unit would be especially useful against the Clan invaders. With a huge amount of equipment lost, and even a few factories captured, every BattleMech was needed in the AFFC to combat the twisted decsendants of Kerensky. As part of Project Unity, the retrofit is being conducted on Caph where almost nothing remains of the original Stormvanger facilities that constructed the Mech. This central location will facilitate the effort and hopefully help restore the planet’s industry after the Succession Wars.

Capabilities:
This new upgrade is constructed around the original Stormvanger HV-7 internal structure which has proven extremely hardy throughout the Succession Wars. These durable chassis range in age from three hundred and forty to two hundred and seventy years of service. The original Hermes 360 power plant was replaced by the GM 270 Fusion Engine still manufactured on Coventry. This reduces the maximum speed of the design by nearly eight kilometers per hour but opens up eighteen and half tons for additional weaponry and armor. This reduction saved two more tons than a 360 XL which would have been considerably more expensive and much more vulnerable to battle damage.
For weaponry the Zeus-36 Mk III Autocannon was replaced by a Poland Main Model A Gauss Rifle like the lostech CP-11-A variant did. The Delta Dart Long Range Missile 10-Rack with a Valiant Ballista Long Range Missile 20-Rack produced on Robinson. This massive missile battery, now equipped with an Artemis IV FCS, was previously featured on the Stuka and Thunderbird Aerospace Fighters. The RAMTech 1200X Extended Range Large Laser as well as the three RAMTech 800P Medium Pulse Lasers made on New Kyoto were similarly featured on Seydlitz Fighter upgrades. Thanks to deep ammunition bins for the Gauss and LRMs that provide those systems with two dozen shots a piece this Cyclops can stay on the battlefield for prolonged periods.
Ten Double Heat Sinks provide superior cooling enhancements than the old dozen Heat Sinks they replaced. However, they can't handle all the increased weapons fire which should be carefully bracketed into short and long-range volleys. The Medium Pulse Lasers in particular are meant to be used rarely provide defense against Elemental attacks or for those adversaries who manage to make it into the Cyclops' minimum range. The battered original Cyclops’ electronics were replaced by the newly developed ABC communications and targeting systems. First seen on the BLST-3R Blaster this cutting-edge gear developed after years of research at NAIS provides a wide range of modern improvements over their damaged predecessors. While not as strategically advantageous as the Star League era components they provide a level of tactical superiority in battle.
Fifteen and a half tons of Mitchell Argon Ferro-Fibrous provide near total armor protection for this ninety-ton war machine. This forty-two percent increase in durability over the lowtech CP-10-Z makes it tough and difficult to kill. At a total cost of over nine million six hundred thousand C-bills this new model is only slightly more expensive than the lostech 11-A refit. While the final product looks like a Cyclops it performs more like a Highlander without jump jets which will be a nasty surprise to any unsuspecting opponent.

Deployment:
The AFFC have already begun to upgrade every non-command Cyclops into this true Assault 'Mech configuration which has been well received by its Mechwarriors. More Davion commands have been involved with this effort than Lyran because of their greater number of Cyclops but unlike other designs there has been little acrimony. The lack of opposition  Refit offers have also been extended to members of the Martial Alliance and associated mercenary commands who have quickly accepted. Both ComStar and the Draconis Combine are anxiously awaiting their upgrades along with the Wolf Dragoons and the Northwind Highlanders.

Field Marshal,

Please find below some intel gathered through electronic gathering. There seems to be a Clanner on New Avalon and one that saw some of our newest ‘Mech.

Even if he/she is wrong on some point, these reports are still worrying. I will let you decide what course of action is to be undertaken.

My first idea would be to find out who this R.N. is and how he/she got all these information on the New Avalon Institute of Science.

Yours,

Colonel Katharine Madeleine Hooper,
MI-3

My Khan,

You requested me to look for information regarding former Star League Defence Force units that decided not to follow the Great Father or were left behind.
Not a lot of them remains but the unit called the Eridani Light Horse, heirs from the Third Regimental Combat Team and according to its history, in spite of being mercenaries, they still follow an honourable code of conduct.

I will conduct you another time as I am afraid I might be being hunted by Inner Sphere spies.

Yours,

R.N.

My Khan,

There is no logical reason for the Federated Commonwealth not to have used the Eridani Light Horse in their defence against our brothers.
Some are pretending that they were dealing with the shock of Operation Revival but we are talking about Warriors not about chickens, so this makes little sense.
I think the truth is to be found in their links with the New Avalon Institute of Sciences where according to my sources, they are teaching tactics and sending their technicians to teach and learn about engineering. I will focus my efforts on this hypothesis.

Yours,

R.N.

My Khan,

I will remain silent for a while because I am being followed by strange people, which are probably spies of a sort or another.
However, I was right. I saw new more advanced ‘Mechs almost on par with some of the relics of the Star League we were able to find. I couldn’t get my hands on them or have a good look at them but I will find a way to do so.

Yours,

R.N.

My Khan,

I was able to observe a live-fire exercise with some of the new ‘Mechs I had seen. Among them, the most impressive is a refit of the Cyclops, a command ‘Mech of the Star League era.
From what I saw, its speed has been boosted to allow it to engage and disengage at will. Its top speed is equal to the walking speed of a Locust (I saw both moving side by side). Because of the weapons available, I think it is a mix of Extra-Light Engine and MASC System.
Although it would make it costly and fragile, it suits the role of this ‘Mech since it was designed to coordinate a full Galaxy and as such should not be let alone in a fight.
However its firepower is impressive with 20 tubes of Long Range Missiles and a Gauss Rifle, each in one torso, giving it shooting capacity at longer ranges. 6 Medium Lasers split all over the rest of the ‘Mech are acting as a second line of defence for those getting too close.

The rest is unknown to me but this ‘Mech seems well protected (I saw it taking two hits from a Gauss Rifle in the Center Torso and the lateral ones) and cool enough to alpha strike.

Yours,

R.N.

My Khan,

I now you ordered me to get back to our Clan but I kept on investigating this new version of the Cyclop  and I saw three of them waiting to be shipped to somewhere. Their names, which are linked to an old legend of Earth about Cyclops, which were thunderbolt makers, are a sign that they are meant to work together, perhaps coordinating a full Division, something that hasn’t been seen since the time of the Star League Defence Forces. They are Βρόντης (Thunder), Στερόπης (Lightning) and Ἄργης (Bright).

Yours,

 R.N.

You know, this is the first time I can recall seeing MASC on a dedicated command 'Mech. But it's certainly a great idea - you never know when you might need to run away from an enemy headhunter attack!

That's the idea and it fits the Light Horse to a T.
Since the command part isn't a C3 in this 'Mech, it can be gar away and therefore, I went for the "too precious to be kept in battle" idea.

I know fabulousorcboy had different thoughts on the matter and I appreciate both points of view.
