Serket
« on: September 09, 2015, 05:56:03 PM »

The Khans of Escorpion Imperio were eager to consolidate their new holdings under the banner of the Scorpion. To aid in this Scorpion leadership approved the production of a new totem Mech for the Imperio armed forces. Dubbed the Serket, after the ancient Terran Goddess of Scorpions, the new Mech is based very loosely on the Bane. Re-working the blueprints from the ground up has produced very little in the way of changes, a testament to the Bane's original design, and has given the Imperio a fearsome assault Mech that they can quickly mass produce for their understrength touman.

The Serket has a slow top speed of only 54 kph but what it lacks in speed it more than makes up for in armor and payload. 19.5 tons of standard armor gives the Serket a hide that even the most powerful Mechs will find tough to crack. The lack of any advanced manufacturing also means that armor replacement or repair will always be assured and easy to carry out. As with many Clan produced Mechs CASE protects the vulnerable internals against ammunition explosion.

The Serket's firepower consist of a jaw-dropping six LRM Streak launchers. While Streak technology in LRM's is relatively commonplace among the Clans now this does add a certain difficulty in sourcing replacement parts if any of the launchers are damaged or destroyed. It can therefore be safely assumed that the production of Streak LRM launchers are high on the Imperio's production demand list. Backing up the missiles are a quartet of ER Medium Pulse Lasers. As with the launchers, the high tech level of these weapons could be a problem for the Imperio in terms of replacements until they can bring their newly acquired Castillian production facilities up to full speed.

Regardless of these problems the weapon load of the Serket will make for a frightening encounter for anyone entering Imperio space without authorisation.

There are no known variants of the Serket at this point in time, but with the ease of which it can be manufactured you can be certain the Imperio will look to provide some alternatives for their warrior caste in the near future.

IIRC the Scorpions have a severe dislike for missile launchers due to their inherent inaccuracy. The Streaks help to alleviate that problem, but I'm not sure if that would be enough to conquer their ingrained cultural dislike,

Well the Scorpions are merging with another state and the weapons are accurate.

The Scorpions are undergoing a major cultural upheaval, to the extent where they simply are no longer the Goliath Scorpions. THis kind of cultural upheaval would force any society to rethink it's doctrines in order to meet the needs that their new environment has forced upon them. The Imperio command would recognise that they have to adapt or die and this is being reflected in their military and war machines.

True they have a disdain for inaccurate missile weapons, but Streak guidance make these weapons much closer to something they would accept and use.

Further to this, the Castillian worlds have a tech level roughly equivalent to the IS circa 3025 so LRM's, a very basic technology, wuld like be in high production at one or more of the 3 or 4 manufacturing centres on their worlds. It's not too much of a stretch to expect that these lines could be upgraded to produyce Streak launchers, rather than using the current output (which the Imperio would hate) or wastefully discontinuing the entire line(s). Add to that the Alhambra Refit Station on Granada and the Imperio have a ready made facility for converting all the Banes that might be left in their Touman.

The real question that should be asked of the Imperio is what their reaction will be when they discover that the Umayyad are descendants of some of the Clan Wolverine.refugees... ;)

Which they aren't according to one of the Jihad era sourcebooks. WoB discovered that the Umayyads were not who they expected to be. One can infer that they (WoB) thought they were Wolverines, but the WoB were wrong.

They could have been part of the SLDF at some point. Either folks fleeing the Exodus Civil War or the Succession Wars. But it does not appear they are Wolverines.

Oh, I must have missed that one. That's sad... It still leaves the question unanswered then of where those "missing" Wolverines ended up... unless I missed that too?
