I am sorry but I need to speak out here, Takiro, I realize this is your project, so we have to play by your rules at least hypothetically.  But your speed requirements are garbage, and they stifle innovation.  Most contests, when those speed limits are adhered to we end up with half a dozen entires within certian tollerances of each other, particularly for the Zombie Class.  there is no variety here and it makes it boring to build for as m,y options are either 1) Ignore your requirments get praise for creative thinking but not selected, or 2) build a mech like everyone else.

All right here we go. I was going to go with this anyway, but re-reading the decisions thread gave this submission even greater impetus. Je vous présente le nouveau Mongrel avec un nouveau nom

Code: [Select]
Nimrod

Mass: 45 tons
Tech Base: Clan
Chassis Config: Biped Omnimech
Rules Level: Tournament Legal
Era: Clan Invasion
Tech Rating/Era Availability: E/X-X-E
Production Year: 3070
Cost: 5,442,031 C-Bills
Battle Value: 784

Chassis: Unknown Endo-Steel
Power Plant: Unknown 225 Fusion Engine
Walking Speed: 54.0 km/h
Maximum Speed: 86.4 km/h (108.0 km/h)
Jump Jets: Unknown
    Jump Capacity: 150 meters
Armor: Unknown Ferro-Fibrous
Armament:
    14.5 tons of pod space.
Manufacturer: Unknown
    Primary Factory: Unknown
Communications System: Unknown
Targeting and Tracking System: Unknown

Overview:
When the IlKhan announced the Quicksilver Program, one of the first orders he
gave was to halt certain programs that had not yet made it out of the prototype
stage. Clan Diamond Shark's Mongrel program was one of the projects that did
not escape the IlKhan's cuts.

Not wanting to waste the time and effort that the Shark scientist had already
put into the program, they shifted their efforts to adapting the chassis to a
cheaper and lighter powerplant. Using the powerplant found in the binary's
worth of Von Luckner tanks that they had in one of their reserve caches, the
Diamond Shark designers discovered that the new OmniMech actually had an extra
ton of pod space available even with a fixed MASC system and five jump jets.
Not wanting to keep the same name for this slightly revamped OmniMech, the
design team changed the name to Nimrod, named for the hunter of biblical
legend.

While not as maneuvable as the Mongrel, nor as fleet of foot, there is not much
of a difference when the MASC is engaged. Whiletheir need for the Nimrod may
not be as great as that of the Mongrel, it will defintely fill a niche in their touman.
Once enough Nimrods have been built to meet the demands of their touman, the
Diamond Sharks will gladly offer it to any any clan that desires it.

Of the six configurations of this Omni, four are similar to the initial five
created for the Mongrel. The only differences are the new D and Configurations

The Prime differs from the Mongrel's Prime in switching the ER large laser
lasers to a large pulse laser and swapping the six-tubed Streak launcher for an
LRM-10.

The A configuration keeps swaps the matched pair LRM-15s for a brace of Artemis
IV-equipped LRM-10 launchers. The medium pulse laser and the ER small laser are
replaced with a pair of ER medium lasers and an anti-missile system.

The B Configuration is nearly identical to the earlier version, except that it
repalces the ER medium laser with a third medium pulse laser

The C configuration is exactly the same but adds a second ton of ammunition for
the LB 10-X autocannon. This necassary if the Nimrod wishes to surviv for long
on an Inner Sphere battlefield.

The new D configuration features an all energy-based battery of an ER PPC, an
ER large laser and a small pulse laser. An anti-missile system is there to
shrug off any enemy missiles that may come near. This makes the Nimrod free of
any ammunition constraints being placed on it main battery.

The E configuration is all new and is dedicated as a scout and battle armor and
infantry hunter. The active probe and ECM system aid in the scouting mission
while the trinity of pulse lasers backed up by a trio flamers allows to go
after battle armor and conventional infantry. Armored vehicles should also view
this configuration as hazardous to their continued existence. The Streak SRM-2
was added as an additional short-ranged weapon.

I personally would also drop the speed requirement.  The only way I got round it this time was MASC. I'd have likely used it anyway since 4/6 felt too slow and 5/8 (10) looked like it had been done.  6/9 took too much space IMO

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

Well a lot of stuff to comment on today and may I say I love all the input. Good, bad or otherwise keep expressing your opinions. They are invaluable aids to this setting and I really appreciate all the participation. Thank you.

JP I did read your Icepick/ Way Seeker this morning and admittedly was a tired little boy. So I read it again with your addendum. Now I do not want to pass judgment on your submission yet because there are four more days to go in this contest. However, I will again comment on the Allard which should serve as a template on how to break the rules and nearly win. That being said both you and Dragon Cat have made your case for a slower design here.

The speed minimum are there as a general guideline for the four separate weight classes. Light (6/9), Medium (5/8), Heavy (4/6), and Assault (3/5). I think that these “limits” are slow by Clan standards (circa 3052) and we have run into them so often because of all these Zombies. If you read the Kingfisher (a 4/6 assault Zombie!) fluff it standard fusion engines on Clan OmniMechs are rare. So this whole Program does run in opposition to establish Clan doctrine.

The fact that there are multiple entries which are slower then the requested design speed says a lot. In fact I have been thinking of a larger design to come being pretty darn slow but the pod space would be amazing and quite possibly justifiable. So your submissions are not done in vain and go beyond food for thought. Going against the grain like your doing is gutsy and stimulates ideas on my end as well as yours. That being said I do not think dropping the movement minimum from the criteria would be productive.

I believe in being up front and telling you what performance I expect here but do not hesitate to tell me you have a better and why. In some ways doing so makes your fluff writing easier and more enjoyable. I also would not worry about making “clone designs” as I am looking for good stories to weave into this setting and great names.

For Master Arminas I also say that I can not comment as of yet too much on your fluff but the fact that things are getting contentious is awesome. This is the Clans and conflict is their way. Hearing about differing design philosophies, intense competition and internal squabbling is music to my ears. Very Clan like.

Seven submissions so far hopefully we will get more. Come on LordGrayson! I am considering allowing more entries as this contest has bought forward some really good ideas. Good job gang!!

Fire Grenadier (Shadow Wraith)
Sand Devil (Master Arminas)
Way Seeker (JP Arbiter)
Knave (Drakensis)
Sabre Kraken (Fitzgerald)
Trickster (Dragon Cat)
Nimrod (Abele)

Well I wake up this morning and what do I find? Five new submissions but three clearly fall outside the design criteria.

The Sabre Kraken is plain whacky and while I like it cause it is so far outside the norm - it will not even qualify for the contest given its highly Level 3 nature. Sorry fitz, I'll give it an evaluation but tripods ain't sniffing this challenge.

JP and Dragon Cat both your submissions are slower than criteria - something that should be recognized in your fluff. Dragon Cat is comes the closest to justifying his decision in the fluff thus far. Give me a "yeah we know the ilKhan said but we think this is better" yada yada..... please. Thank you!

Fluff edited still a mess to view though

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

I regret nothing!!!

More seriously I'll be leaving the Sabre Kraken up as one of the Boondoggles of the Quicksilver program

Looks good to me Dragon Cat but if you want to refine it the deadline is midnight Friday the 25th, thank you!

Nor should you, the Sabre Kraken and the Dingo (JPArbiter) are full of Society goodness. Something I will be dealing with in Clarion Call soon.  ;)

Seriously fitz did you follow Tripod design rules or follow standard Biped engineering and call it a tripod??

I noticed that too from last update although I'm not convinced it's totally working yet and it only goes to 100 tons :(

for the record, Icepick was a placeholder name as I was too tired, the proper name is way seeker (cause Pathfinder did not sound Scorpion-ey enough)

I was thinking Wayfinder myself but as you know JP the name is a big part. Ice pick didn't sound clan like to me. Perhaps an inner sphere name

Changes made to configurations and accompany fluff for te Nimrod. I realized it ed cheap to basically copy Mongrel's configs over verbatim. Now only one has the exact same weapons as its Mongrel brethren.

Hump day is here folks and I was wondering if anyone wanted to do a second design entry? We've gotten some pretty interesting entries that have really gone against the grain.  So what do you think - so nice you design twice?
