I'll take two wins. It's better than getting shut out.

Takiro one thing I think you undervalue LB-5X over the 10X in regards to fighters. That 6 hex range advantage is huge when facing fighters. A fighter with ER PPC or ER Large Lasers can continuously stay out of range versus the 10X and Large Pulses with no worry about return fire.

Didn't think id win this one not inspired by the design besides my fluff going in. Only config i thought might win was Nova Cat command variant. For an iconic mech its probably one of my least favorite

Sorry bud, I posted this morning on this topic but I guess it didn't take. I feel like your closest design entry was Iota which to me reminded me of the Star League Black Knight. Also liked your Gauss/ER PPC combo which was F which finished just behind masterarminas B. Ultimately I thought your command variant (Kappa) was a variant of the new Prime. Even though it was very solid, certainly useful, and appropriate to the Mad Cat it was not in my top ten choices or most common types.

Granted I do prefer the LB 10-X AC and Large Pulse Laser combination as a go to Anti-Aircraft variant for their range, accuracy and superior damage. I also like it when those weapons are linked to a Targeting Computer cause them fighters is hard to hit. If you notice there was no such configuration selected in this contest with Configuration C coming the closest. Energy weapons were a better fit for the Mad Cat at least IMO because of the 15 integral Double Heat Sinks while grouped ballistic weapons suffered the most for the same reason. If I had to choose one (AA configuration) for this contest it would be either marauder648 C (has the Targeting Computer your LB-X and twin ER Large Lasers) or drakensis H (better as an extreme range harasser). Unfortunately neither made my top ten which is a reflection of the ten most common variants used on these designs. The Mad Cat is the Clan's modern day Heavy Cavalry asset - imposing size, fast moving, and hard hitting but not for regular use as a fighter screen.

Wasnt really thinking of this specific contest just an observation of the reviews ive read since ive been taking part. I personally love targeting computers but i think many clansmen might not as its not their personal ability its their machines. At least thats my take on it and why i tend not to use them as much i would if designing these Mechs for myself.

Well I like Harassers (AC/2s) and I do take into account Anti-Air Platforms which I will try to keep an open mind about AC/5s. I feel like the Ultra AC/10 is the one that gets overlooked all the time but hey that is just me. ;)

I promised you all that I would jot down all notable Mad Cat configurations and pilots I knew about. So, I gathered everything up and placed it here. Canon characters are those who definitely pilot a Timber Wolf but their preferred configuration may not be known. Contest characters are mostly non-canon creations except for Karl Devalis and thanks to their creators we know what their preferred variant is. Khan Jonathon Clarke and Loremaster George Kerensky are old characters of mine which Bradshaw can confirm. Their configurations will appear throughout my Clarion Call story. saKhan Brandon Howell of Clan Smoke Jaguar appear in the Trial of Restoration with the variant seen below which while effective could not help him survive this pivotal battle. The final one is in honor of our vacationing compatriot Ice Hellion and is a bracket firer I thought of which can lay waste to opponents. I hope you enjoy them all.

All I can ask for.

In regards to Ultra AC 10 I like the Gauss over it in most opportunities between the two. Gauss features more damage as single shot almost the same as a double tap. No chance of jamming, less heat, more range and all for just two tons more. Now the Gauss can explode but a Case can negate this just like the AC's ammo explosion.

Ultras are more of an option for me on medium to pocket lights. I did use some on the next challenge but that was just part of my stories that I came up with for it.

Special thanks to masterarminas who filled in this contest for a vacationing Ice Hellion. Hopefully the master will stick around and Uncle Ice will return soon

I see someone did a really good job while I was away.
Perhaps I should disappear more often :P

Congratulations Masterarminas.

Did you see my homage to you that I came up with for the Mad Cat?

Now get back to designing - the Night Gyr is still up till Friday.  ;)

And yes, I/we enjoyed it.

But why Narc?

I try, great to hear bud. ;)

True, true. Still be interesting to see what sort of genetic stock makes up your character. Our gaming season is probably going to kick off in October, fyi!

But why Narc?

I know you usually go Streak SRMs for your bracket fire beasts but I thought that this variation based on drakensis could do the most unless you come up with better.

And yes, I/we enjoyed it.

Glad to hear it bud, great to have you back!

Narc means cooperating, something the Clan Warriors are not willing to do most of the time.

Actually this Narc system is simply meant to enhance your SRMs. It has longer range than the SRMs and will amplify their firepower. It is really a drakensis concept but I like it.
