questions for those in the know
« on: June 12, 2015, 12:40:32 PM »

in canon s. calderon started out with 25 aquilla  transports , but lost 2 just getting into the hyades cluster proper . what i'm asking is how many would have been cannibalized to help start the new colony and how many would have been repurposed as armed merchant ships . reason for asking this is in some of the fluff written the first ws of the tc were said to be of very primitive design . so would these primitive designs have been repurposed aquilla's .
now for the second part of my question concerns station keeping drives . what is the thrust ratio of the skd's , 1/4g , 1/2g or 3/4g .i'm wanting to give my js's a little forward motive power but not break the 1g mark . i know i may have over looked this in the source books or manuels , so please offer your thoughts comments or help .
thank you

Officially according to the current canon the first warships of the Concordat were the Winchester class cruisers in 2364. According to earlier material (Periphery 1e) the TC began building warships in 2360 and among their fleet was an unnamed Corvette class warship (see Periphery 1e p.18).  The implication is that these early warships were new designs, not repurposed Aquillas.

That said, I don't think too many of the Aquillas were cannibalized for parts to help settle Taurus.  I suspect many were mothballed early on the TC history (2253 to about 2310) with a few retained for use as explorer ships.  Once Taurus was well established the TC began a massive expansion - the Hyades Clusters (up to 10 habitable worlds) was colonized between 2310 and 2320 (some issues here- Periphery 1e has some mistakes/contradictions- most of the worlds they list being colonized during this time are supposed to be in the Cluster but several of them are outside of the cluster, some very far outside the cluster).  The first colonization outside the cluster began in 2330, and it was only around that time that Jumpship yards were built (at least that is how Periphery 1e reads).

Station keeping thrusters generate 0.1G thrust (0.2 thrust points in game terms),  This is per various SBs, including TR3057R)

thanks for the feedback irose , so a 10th of a g just to keep it stationary against the solar winds w/sail out and rigged . so how many more 10th's of a g to give a js  just the barest forward motion , the roll ,pitch  & yaw can be taken care of by the rc thrusters . think of an old freight wagon climbing pike's peak road , fully loaded and not the annual auto rally held there . I want to give them a little maneuverability .

I would say a little more.

0.1g is more then enough for station keeping- it would allow the ship to accelerate and move around, just very slowly compared to warships.

thanks for the info irose , I kind of thought more than 1/10g would be needed to get any kind of forward motion . many thanks
