Can the Rim Protectorate become a stable periphery state on its own?
While it may not have much in the way of defenses at first, long term they could become quite the powerhouse if the snakes don't squish them.
Your thoughts?

I would say it could but hey I'm the developer of this universe! Wink Seriously what planets are left of value in the Protectorate? That people know of? Just Illium and Yelmeke are of value. Defense at first would certainly be a problem but the snakes have so many other inviting targets to pick from.

well considering I have kinda taken on the Protectorate as my little personal pet project in the Shattered Dawn universe I would say that unless Takiro over rules anything i write up that the Protectorate will not be seeing its end for at least a couple major rounds of war.

Also that its oky for them to be helping stabilze the planets and start schools on theses planets Smiley

The Protectorate shall make it to FM Periphery 2812 but any further I can't say. Smiley LG I got no problems with the Jolly Rogers operating on behalf of the Republic in this area. Besides DC reprisals your group has to fear everyday pirates as well.

O ys the third part of the remake fluff deals with some of the growing pirates attacks when the Legacy's military school units deploy off their planets to aid the other planets of the Rim get there act together and a few theses planets {Butte Hold, Oberon VI, Gotterdammerung} are going to be a tough nut to try and restore order to. I'm a little lost as to were the Star Belt Pirates are located at in location to the Rim world planets as I don't see anything labeled astroid belt on the map.

Somewhere in the Star's End system. Now the Rim Protectorate has a presence there as well. Let me give you the picture of this state. It is a house of cards built on the efforts of a distant Republic itself struggling to survive.
So what does that mean? Stripped and rebuilt by Project Phoenix it is a mere shell of its former self. The heart of the Protectorate are Illium and Yelmeke which sort of serve as co-capitals. The only other worlds of big importance are mainly secret in nature. Star's End and Camelot Command. I know the Dark Nebula is in Lyran space but hey, what do they know. Wink
Basically General Byrne has had to do alot of negotiating to remain in place and he has done a fantastic job. He is a wily diplomat who somehow manages to stay one step ahead and hold things together. However, some of the deals he has made are more legitmate than others.
One of the better ones is his partnership with General Hawk, formerly of the Rim Worlds Republic. Both men have united their efforts to maintain the Protectorate even though they have different views on certain things. This deal mended relations between Terrans and Rim Worlders for the better but other factions must be dealt with. Pirates and Renegades for one. Byrne has managed to buy some of these groups off and make alliances with others to fend off the rest.
Privateers like the Jolly Rogers would be just another player here. Seperatists would be another factor. Another would be refugees fleeing the war mainly from the old Rim Republic but also intermingled with some Lyrans and Dracs. And lets not forget Lyran and Draconis aggression in all its various forms. Big and small.
By 2795 the Protectorate should have 5 line Mech Regiments to defend itself with and a militia force that is gradually gaining strength.
Rim Guard - General Byrne has gradually scrapped together a BCT from loyal elements out here, mainly Terran.
Terran Legion - This BCT made the long journey from the Republic and is the only force composed solely of Terrans.
Rim Dragoons - The assembled loyal military of the old Rim Worlds Republic serve General Hawk. These last soldiers of the Rim joined the Protectorate with General Hawk.

I understand the first part but a mere shell of its former self? Was it really ever shining?
The Amaris family was exploiting it as its tool in a quest to take down the Star League. Everything was focused on that: any change would be an improvement.

I can see the Protectorate coming forward into its own the coming years of war. Their biggest concern to begin with is (as stated) protecting what little they have that is valuable. Personaly if I were in charge of the RP I would be debating shipping grains and such to other powers to build the economy so that it can become stable faster and use those resources to enlarge their defense forces. Course I am most defidently biased to the RP as I love the faction.
in addition I would offer Project Pheonix a chance to set up a research station somewhere real secure to allow them to regain lost tech and hopefully share some with the RP

I would imagine as do the numerous pirate bands that dwell around the region. Unless the design was created in the Hegemony after the Republic fell. Even then a vet or two might have survived to travel home with a design or two.

I didn't want to answer untill Takiro had weighed in, but yeah the designs were created in the RWR just before the Coup. Entire factories were, I imagine, retooled to churn them out. If you were to do a random assignment chart the baseline Sharks and Vampires are probably common maybe 7 on catagory D Amaris units, 6-7 on C, 5,6,7 on B and 4,5,6,7 on A. Great Whites are next most common with a roll of 7 on C rated units, 6-7 on B, 5,6,7 on A. Heck's as they are known are least common as the proto-Omni technology is a little on the new side. Maybe 12 on C rated, 2 and 12 on B rated units and 6,7,8 on A rated. If you are using either Hideki Amaris' 219th Dragoons or Takeo's Huscarls however you have the option of substituting one of the Totem designs instead of randomly assigning units, as both regiments have full access to the first few production runs and thier pilots would take pride in piloting a machine that is "Frontier to the core" as Takeo might put it. Also the Tigers several after the Liberation as thier Royal designs are hard to replace at the current time and thier nature makes them far more likely to be pragmatic about replacing lost machines. Better a nasty enemy piece of work than dispossesed. Most won't name thiers yet with the possible exception of Justine Sinclair's Executioner's Song, but as the SW goes on this will probably change.

Well you quickly run into what is and isn't canon even in the BTSD setting. So I'd like to compile a list of all things Rim Worlds. Might be fun to have a clearing house of sorts for this nation. Why not? Give me canon, semi-canon and stuff you've done or neat ideas you've seen. What do you think??

Sounds good, there is probably enough RimJob hardware lying around to outfit a few divisions in the Protectorate.

The factory might still be around circa 2795, but the design proper was almost wiped during the Coup. From a Terran standpoint it'd be in their best interest to strip untouched production and infrastructure to help repair/shore up their own.
Kerensky converted RWR production to resupply the SLDF prior to launching the liberation so it isn't much of a stretch to think he may also have taken portions of it with him for the Exodus. Kerensky was his own boss, so it's not like he was looking to protect the fledging Republic. So the RWR may be in worse off shape then you think.
