Fanbook Compilation: TRO 3054 Series
« on: January 20, 2019, 07:41:24 PM »

Hey gang, after speaking with Red Pins (who has been instrumental in moving this forward) we thought it might be a good idea to create a thread detailing what exactly we are up to and hopefully get your help thus moving these fan made tomes into completed PDF book form.

So first of all I have to outline TRO 3054: Quicksilver Trials and TRO 3054: Quicksilver Upgrades (maybe a few more XTROs as well) below for you all with a planned table of contents. All the winning entries from our various contests will be included but they have to be subjected to a word count for book formatting (I'll let Red Pins explain in detail) as well as adding a few story elements for each Trial like a word about competitors and perhaps designing a couple of additional configurations for OmniMechs.

We've already completed some things and hopefully with your help we can get this fanbook done! What do you think?

Wow, that's confusing-looking.  I was thinking, like this - highlight the entries red and green according to what's been done.

Give me a bit, I can do that.  ;)

There are 91 designs so far (aerospace wise) for this book, at the standard 2 page layout is 182 page total just for designs.

Can you speak to word count for each design while I work on a sample ToC like you have there?

It should be marauder648!

I was thinking more last night about the split between Trials and Upgrades as some of the proposed designs above for the Trials could be considered Upgrades. For example, their are the four Accelerated OmniMechs (Crimson Langur, Hellcat, Savage Coyote, Blood Asp) which are currently listed under the Trials which should get their own category. They could really appear in either book as they just upgraded canon designs while Trials is for new stuff.

A couple of existing ICE Vehicles (Zorya and Quetzalcoatl) which could have them appear in Upgrades rather than Trials also brings up the interesting question should we consider the other existing Clan Vehicles for an Upgrade?? OmniFighters were certainly going to be part of the development process for TRO Upgrades but BattleMechs (IIC Program) could also be shoved over there. I geuss it is all a matter of equal distrubtion and what you'd like to see.

So what would you like to see??

Well, I'm not going to second-guess you.  Similarly, it will spend on layout, your manual of style, and font. (size and style)

We can do the work and expand to fit it required.

Some entries are a little unwieldy with too much fluff (and it is hard to make cuts on such good stories) while others need a healthy rewrite. I will try to get some time tomorrow to come up with two different Table of Contents for each fanbook.

You might need to harmonise them (with a number of characters for each section and fixed sections). Otherwise, it will be a bit messy.
The plus side is that it will give more background and flesh to your AU.

Okay folks, I think I have a working premise for two different TROs. This first will be TRO 3054: Quicksilver Trials (concentrating on new designs from the original competitions) while the second will be TRO 3054: Quicksilver Upgrades (refitting existing designs for optimal performance).

Right now the first runs at 69 designs with some more aerospace fighters to come while the second runs at 68. Pretty even split I think but it seems like book one will grow thanks to the fighters which leaves expansion for book two or that could be smaller.

Plus there are designs that we just don't cover at all that the Clans use. Not sure what to do with the untouched designs??

Thoughts??

First thing, I know you don't aim at being published but usually, the number of pages is a multiple of 4.

Second, do you have an idea of the layout you will follow? In other words, do you think that every design will manage to fill the classical 2 pages (or 3 or ...).
If you need help with this part of the rewriting, I am only a click away.

Well I look at e-pub or fanbooks as quasi publishing anyway…

Yes, pretty classic TRO layout with perhaps some detail in there about the Quicksilver Trials. Hopefully we will have a few summary books done before this to explain what has happened in greater detail up to the Trials.

Thanks Ice, I will need you and the whole gang! ;)

These books are still going yes. We finished the OmniMech challenges for both recently but three more remain to be judged. There are other designs which have to be finished and entries have to be finalized for printing. So a bunch more needs to be done.

Right now Sadurni is absorbing most of my attention.
