==Overview:==
Of all the sights that can be found in the deep Periphery, far from the
Inner Sphere, few are stranger than the Potemkin Troop Cruiser Cyclops.
Formally a ship in the service of the Star League Defences Force, the Cyclops
was abandoned shortly before Operation Liberation after suffering a
catastrophic drive-failure that killed half the crew.
==Capabilities:==
Stripped of all usable parts by the SLDF, the Cyclops was left to the
mercy of scavengers and drifters, until one enterprising Pirate King, Paul
'Mad Dog' Briton, saw in the abandoned warship great potential. After having
his troops secure the station, he set about bring as many of its systems
online as he could. The KF hyper-drive was wrecked, so the pirates ripped the
remains out and sold the germanium.
Now the proud owner of a gutted shell, Briton had his people set up base
on the Cyclops, converting the unused areas for storage and recreation.
Machine-shops were added, as well as Hydroponics equipment looted from a
raided Colony ship. More and more of the Cyclops was converted to new uses,
transforming the transport into a city in space.
Soon the Cyclops became the target of raids by other pirate gangs, so
Briton had salvaged weapons fitted to the hull, replacing the armament the
ship had once carried for layers of point-defences. Fighter bays were added,
while extra amour platting was affixed to the hull.
Within a few short years, the Cyclops had gone from an abandoned hulk to
an impenetrable fortress. Despite his nom de plume, Briton was a very smart
man, and saw in his position the one thing that was all but impossible to find
in the Periphery: stability. So he sent word to all the other bandit kingdoms
that the Cyclops would be a free-port, safe from any outside interference, a
place where anyone could do business; as long as they paid a percentage of
their profit to Briton.
Rather uncharacteristically, the other Pirate Kings agreed: knowing that
there were times when talking was better than fighting, they could see the
sense in Britons plans, and each swore never to attack the Cyclops.

==Deployment==
Still in existence after all these years, the Cyclops remains one of the
few Free Ports in the deep Periphery. The descendants of Briton maintain the
station to a surprisingly high standard, using much of the profit they make
from the business conducted on the station to keep it running.
When the Explorer Corps discovered the Cyclops some ten years before the
Clan Invasion, they at first thought that it might be a clue to the
whereabouts of General Kerensky's lost army. They soon saw the error, and
entered into a business partnership with the current ruler, Queen Jennifer
Briton II. The deal brought in fresh trade and hard to come by spare parts
that the station needed, and gave the Explorer Corps a base of operation in a
new sector of space, as well as access to the passing gossip. The Explorer
Corps went as far as to permanently lease three of the stations docking
collars, leaving a Union class DropShip attached to one of them to house
support personnel and equipment.
***3060 Update***
While the Explorer Corps put most of their efforts into finding the Clan
home worlds after the Battle for Tukayyid, they retained their ties with the
Cyclops. This continued association enabled the Explorer Corps crew stationed
there to fight off an attempted takeover by Word of Blake forces in 3056.
Expecting the pirates to stay out of the fight, a pair of Word of Blake
DropShips attacked their Explorer Corps counterpart. Unwittingly, they
breached the non-aggression pact that kept the Cyclops a Free Port, and were
in turn fired upon by almost all of the pirate ships in the system.
Forced to pull back to avoid being destroyed by superior numbers, the
remaining Word of Blake forces left the system, and have made no attempted to
take the station since. Whether or not they will allow this to go unpunished
for much longer remains to be seen.
Thankful for the assistance, the Explorer Corps have started to ship new
weapons and equipment to the Cyclops, upgrading its defences and systems far
beyond any similar outpost in the Periphery.
