Enterprise II-class Super-carrier (AU with thanks)
« on: November 26, 2015, 12:50:17 PM »

Based on a concept built by Abele which was based on the original in XTRO Boondoggles and mixed with some of the AU's custom tech.

Found here on CBT or elsewhere in this Techlab http://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php?topic=32328.0

Overview
The failed brainchild of the first Star League Defence Force the
Enterprise-class Supercarrier was a complete failure.  Intended on bringing
eighteen aerospace fighter wings into battle the prototype "Enterprise"
failed to be commissioned into the SLDF after dozens of technical problems
plagued its construction and testing.  Stripped and allowed to spin through
the Terra system the ship was abandoned before the Amaris Crisis struck.
In 3091 Commanding-Admiral David Natale took an interest in the
rotting hulk of the Enterprise which was floating through the Terra system.
Following his untimely death Commanding-General Archer Christifori ordered
"Project Enterprise" restarted begining the road to the Enterprise II-class
Super-carrier.

Capbilities
Overall the Enterprise II is very similar to the original design
with overall mass, transit drive and armament very similar to the original
design's capabilities.  The biggest visual change to the design is the drop
from eighteen aerospace fighter wings to eight this move was made to match
the production and training capabilities of the modern SLDF and to avoid
"putting all their egs in one basket."  Interestingly "Cargo Bay 2's"
overall size and dimensions match that of Cargo Bay 1 and 3 which would
mean another four wings could potentially be added to the class during a
mid-life refit.  Four assault-class DropShips support the class.
There the similarities end the Enterprise II utilizes the newly
developed Lithium Fusion Battery Mk II allowing the vessel to make two
additional jumps after the initial K-F Core charge is spent.  Additionally
the class uses the newly developed, and uniquely Star League, WarShip
Anti-Missile Defence System.  Finally a Hyper Pulse Generator a Naval C3
System, two hundred First Class Quarters and four hundred Second
Class Quarters allow the vessel to act as a command vessel.

Deployment
Construction of the vessel's hull ended at the begining of 3100 the
vessel began nearly a year of fitting out, testing and training before the
SLS Enterprise was commissioned into the SLDF Navy on 7th January 3101.
The SLDF Procurement Bureau plan to construct one of these vessels
for each of their WarShip squadrons with the second vessel the SLS David
Natale already under construction at the Titan Shipyards.

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.
