Regulus-class Frigate
« on: September 01, 2014, 10:25:24 PM »

Another ship in service in my AU.  My thanks to Corsair_SG for helping sort this one out like the others.  The timeline thanks this ship for wiping Kyeinnisan off the map and the Sea Foxes have a particular hate for it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
   The Regulus-class Frigate appeared by surprise to the people of the Free
Worlds League and the Inner Sphere, from Clipperton shipyards the vessels were
launched in 3085 from a yard that had previously only built Agamemnon-class
Heavy Cruisers.  The first two vessels the Clipperton and the Gibson as soon
as they were launched two more vessels began construction.

==Capabilities:==
The Regulus has decent armour and engine acceleration capabilities which would
allow it to keep up with most fleet vessels and survive some decent hits.
Built around the rugged frame of a Congress-class Frigate the vessel has a
decent structure as well as Lamellor Ferro-carbide armour for the very best
type of protection.  The hull also carries a Lithium Fusion Battery for full
tactical flexibility.
   When arming the vessel the Regulans armed the Regulus with only one real
purpose - Orbital Bombardment - though the Regulans have said the vessel is
built to claim territory the vessel’s forward armament and rumours of its
weapons grid show they are built around destruction.  Up front the Regulus
carries a Light Mass Driver that stretches its mainline, under the Mass Driver
is a single Killer Whale Capital Missile Launcher, both these weapons are
supplied with plenty of ammunition, for the Killer Whale it is rumoured each
Regulus carries a nuclear tipped warhead for one of its missiles coupled with
the Mass Driver makes the vessel a potent weapon of mass destruction.
   In each forward flank the vessel’s armament is more conventional with six
class-55 Naval Lasers which when configured as an Anti-Aircraft Battery make a
potent weapons array against any target, alongside these weapons are two
Barracuda-capital missile launchers with plenty ammunition.
   For a broadside the vessel has four light class-20 naval autocannons and
four medium sub-capital cannons spread in two central-line turrets.  These
weapons were originally designed to be able to fire into the forward arc
however tests showed this plan was flawed, instead they sit in conventional
mounts.
   The aft quarters and aft array has a similar set up to the forward arcs the
arcs have class-45 Naval Lasers and paired Barracuda-class capital missiles
while aft there is a Killer Whale Capital Missile Launcher along the ventral
central line just rear of the Light Mass Driver’s assembly, like the forward
launcher it is rumoured to have a nuclear warhead in reserve.

==Deployment==
   The Regulan Fiefs are the only nation to field this warship and it is
constructing them at two vessels at a time.  Their locations of deployment is
unknown.

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.
