Varnay/First Prince-class Battleship

I thought this class was already up but I was wrong.  My deepest thanks to Corsair_SG who made this ship and the other two that followed it a reality my original pen and pencil ships were a bit of a mess and Corsair_SG sorted them out and put up with my dozen and a half revisions until I was finally happy with it.

This craft is from my AU timeline as is the accompanying fluff.  Links in my signature.

Overview

The original Varnay-class Battleship was a design built by the
Varnay family of the Federated Suns prior to the Davion Civil War in the late
twenty-fifth Century.  They were gladly accepted by the FSN serving with other
vessels into the Davion Civil War where all but one were confirmed destroyed.

Capabilities

The original Varnay was a decent vessel which mounted an array of
 four Light Naval Gauss Rifles, Naval Lasers and twelve Naval Autocannons
backed up with Killer Whale and Barracuda-class capital missile launchers, had
a brilliant cargo capacity, carried two wings of fighters and four DropShips
however the vessel was slow, under armoured and by today’s standards the
twenty-four Autocannon 5s, that acted as fighter defence, were woefully inadequate.

Deployment

Because of more skilful and more numerous House Davion loyal forces
 all of these vessels were destroyed in the last years of the War.  The last
Varnay-class Battleship, the Thunderchild, was thought lost fighting against
Prince Alexander Davion’s.  However, as the battle turned bad the vessel tried to
jump away damage forced the vessel to miss jump and the vessel was never seen
again.  It was recorded as a full loss for the Varnay faction and as the Federated Suns
celebrated the end of the Civil War it was far forgotten.
Six centuries later in 3059 Clan Nova Cat discovered the Thunderchild two
jumps outside the Tortuga Dominions the Nova Cats made the vessel air-tight and
repaired its jump-drive then moved it into the their newly acquired Faslane-class
Yardship inside the Nova Cat’s Den (formerly the Tortuga Dominions).  With the
SLDF returning from the destruction of the Jaguars and the possibility ComStar
knew of the Nova Cats near Tortuga the Nova Cats knew they needed an ally.
The Thunderchild became an effective bribe/bargaining chip to gain favour with the
Federated Suns.

The evolution of the Varnay-class (actually the last of her kind rebuilt).  Like her predecessor Corsair_SG made this ship happen

Overview
In December 3060 under the Nova Cat Oathmaster’s authority
the Nova Cats took the Thunderchild into the Federated Suns and into
the New Avalon system. The Nova Cats broadcast their purpose of being
in the system, to return the Fox’s Teeth Company and to give the
Federated Suns a gift.  After a couple of days the Nova Cat’s gifted the
Thunderchild the Federated Suns.
Victor Steiner-Davion looked over the vessel and knowing
Federated Suns history knew that the AFFS Admiralty could not launch a
WarShip with the Varnay name, instead the vessel was moved to the Galax
Federated-Boeing Shipyards and there the vessel was updated with new
technology, launched four years later as the FSS Hanse Davion, and the
class was renamed as a First Prince-class Battleship and soon became
the pride of the Federated Suns new navy.

Capabilities
The First Prince Block I is an upgrade of the Varnay-class
however it is an upgrade lacking the facilities or money to completely
rebuild the vessel Federated Boeing went with a more cosmetic changes.
The ship's general layout is identical to the original craft with the same
engines and cooling system.  A Lithium Fusion Battary was added to bring
tactical flexability while six additional small craft were added to the vessel's
small craft complement.  The Thunderchild's pitted armour was stripped
away and replaced with Ferro-carbide armour giving the craft a distinct new
look.  The final addition was one left by Clan Nova Cat a mobile HPG unit.
A basic anti-missile and screen launcher system was added
to the vessel while the forward guns were replaced with a Medium Naval
Gauss Rifle, the Capital Missile system was replaced with AR-10
launchers, the original naval autocannon array was upgraded to 3 twin
mounts of NAC/25s while the standard autocannons were replaced with
larger Ultra Autocannons increasing the craft's defences.

Deployment
At present only one First Prince-class exists, the FSS Hanse
 Davion.  So far the vessel has been making a tour of the Federated Suns
 and no-one has noticed the vessel’s origin, in fact the bigger question
people have been asking is where the Federated Suns received the
vessel as the presence of Clan Nova Cat has been kept a tightly held
secret the DMI has several agents aboard to ensure any found Nova Cat
tech is kept a tightly held secret and to protect the HPG.
With all three major construction yards set up for the Fox-class
 Corvettes, Avalon-class Cruisers and Davion Block III-class Destroyers it
is not expected for any more First Prince-class vessels to be built in the
immediate future.

Overview
The destruction of the FSS Hanse Davion/Thunderchild
during the Varnay Crisis and the damage to the AFFS Fleet put a hold
on the First Prince-class.  This hold remained until 3081 when Federated
Boeing wished to make a class that would compete against the Columbia
class FSS Pegasus for the crown of the AFFS Admiralty.  In 3081 the first of
these First Prince Block II-class Battleships was launched named the
FSS Audacity it was built as a command vessel for future AFFS fleets.

Capabilities
The Block II First Prince-class is designed to be a fleet
command vessel to its core.  With a Naval C3 and Naval Comm Scanner
suite at the heart of the vessel effectively forming an entire command section
for the fleet command to rule while the vessel's commander fights the ship.
Twenty additional crew quarters have been added to the ship's complement
to support this "Fleet Commander."
Beyond this the Block II craft has more thrust, more armour, a better
heat distribution system and a lot more fighting potential than the previous
class.  With three wings of fighters and five DropShips the craft comes close
to matching the Columbia-class for support units.  While the ships fighting
capabilities seem to be a cross between that of an Avalon-class Cruiser and
the Columbia-class with Naval Lasers, Medium Naval Gauss Rifles,
Autocannons and AR-10 Capital Missile Launchers dominating the weapons
array.  An effective Screen Launcher and Laser Anti-Missile System defend
the vessel and with its enhanced heat sink capacity the craft is able to use all
its weapons very effectively.

Deployment
The FSS Audacity led this new version of the First Prince-class.
She was quickly followed by the FSS Bravery in 3085 and then the FSS Destiny
in 3088.  Unfortunately for the AFFS they currently lack significant WarShips
that carry the Naval C3 system so the Audacity and her sister ships have
been reduced to commanding Assault DropShip squadrons.
The AFFS has been looking at its Robinson Block II, Davion IV,
Avalon II, Congress III and Hound II-classes seeing which, if any, are candidates
for the Naval C3 systems.  Unfortunately due to the current enlarged size of the
AFFS Fleet finding the funding to support further increases has bogged down
the development of all of these class beyond the Avalon II-class Cruiser.
