Wasp IIC
« on: August 08, 2012, 11:18:20 AM »

Wasp IIC

Mass: 20 tons
Tech Base: Clan
Chassis Config: Biped
Rules Level: Experimental Tech
Era: All Eras (non-canon)
Tech Rating/Era Availability: F/X-D-D
Production Year: 0
Cost: 1,859,040 C-Bills
Battle Value: 632

Chassis: Unknown Endo-Steel
Power Plant: Unknown 120 Fusion Engine
Walking Speed: 64.8 km/h
Maximum Speed: 97.2 km/h
Jump Jets: Unknown
Jump Capacity: 180 meters (240 meters)
Armor: Unknown Ferro-Fibrous
Armament:
    1  ER Medium Laser
    2  SRM-2s
Manufacturer: Clan Jade Falcon
    Primary Factory: Sudeten
Communications System: Unknown
Targeting and Tracking System: Unknown

Overview:
While the Locust IIC was adopted by the Clans as a quick scout Mech two notable
Mechs remained missing from their Toumans.  The Wasp and Stinger both light
Mechs with similar capabilities they were produced in such high numbers but the
Clans had shunned them.

This changed in 3070 when Clan Jade Falcon transported nearly one hundred of
the Wasp to the Inner Sphere.  These Mechs instead of being added to the Jade
Falcon Touman were taken away by scientists and the design was not seen again
until 3072.  As a test-bed for the Jade Falcon's newest experiment - the
BattleMech Partial Wing.

Capabilities:
Evidently Jade Falcon engineers concentrated on testing the BattleMech Partial
Wing instead of worrying about the Mech.  Dusting off the long mothballed
WSP-1A Wasps they found many of the chassis needed replaced with Clan Endo
Steel while the armour would be replaced with Clan Ferro Fibrous.  Other than
that they left the Mech as it was with a standard 120 Fusion engine providing a
top speed just over 90kph.  They also retained the designs six Jump Jets
mounting them across the Mech's back.

The addition of the partial wing system took up more space in torso areas
however it increased the jump capacity of the deisgn to 240 metres in a single
bound.  This had an additional effect of increasing the designs heat
dispensation which was just as well as the Jade Falcon engineers neglected to
give the Wasp IIC Double Heat Sinks instead leaving the WSP-1A's single heat
sinks in place.

Weapons wise the Jade Falcons kept things very simple.  As a raider and
harraser the design has a single left arm Extended Range Medium Laser.  On both
of the Mechs legs they mounted an two-tube Short Range Missile launches fed by
a ton of ammo.  It's a strange placement as heat sinks mounted in the legs
would have provided far more benefits to the design.

Battle History:
The Wasp IIC debutted on the Jade Falcon Lyran Commonwealth border shortly
after initial tests were concluded.  The design is seen as an experiment and is
unpopular however it has done well in combat against Lyran and mercenary forces.

Deployment:
Commonly assigned to harrassing missions or anti-vehicle missions the Wasp IIC
is being used as a testbed to confirm the viability of the Partial Wing system.

Rumour has it Jade Falcon engineers are using the results of these testbeds to
create a new front-line OmniMech using the Partial Wing system - codenamed
Kestrel.

Variants:
According to reports there is another variant of the Wasp IIC that takes a far
more radical step in upgrades.  Unfortunately there is very little information
on the design other than it is confirmed to carry the Partial Wing system.

Really, as long as there is an unbroken line of people calling themselves "Clan Nova Cat," it doesn't really matter to me if they're still using Iron Wombs or not. They may be dead as a faction, but as a people they still exist. It's not uncommon in the real world, after all.

Wasp IIC 2

Mass: 20 tons
Tech Base: Clan
Chassis Config: Biped
Rules Level: Experimental Tech
Era: All Eras (non-canon)
Tech Rating/Era Availability: F/X-X-F
Production Year: 0
Cost: 2,864,640 C-Bills
Battle Value: 721

Chassis: Unknown Endo-Composite
Power Plant: Unknown 120 Fusion XL Engine
Walking Speed: 64.8 km/h
Maximum Speed: 97.2 km/h
Jump Jets: Unknown
Jump Capacity: 180 meters (240 meters)
Armor: Unknown Ferro-Fibrous
Armament:
    2  Imp. Hvy Medium Lasers
    1  Talons
Manufacturer: Clan Jade Falcon
    Primary Factory: Sudeten
Communications System: Unknown
Targeting and Tracking System: Unknown

Capabilities:
The one and only known variant of the Wasp IIC fielded by Clan Jade Falcon.
Continuing the trend of using the Mech as a test bed for new technology it
includes the Partial Wing system seen on the initial design however it
completely changes the rest of the Mech.

An XL Fusion engine replaces the initial model's standard engine while an
Endo-Composite structure replaces the endo steel frame.  Ferro Fibrous armour
remains covering the structure while Laser Heat Sinks replace the single heat
sinks on the first model.  Laser Heat Sinks seen as a near dead technology
after their failure on the Night Gyr Heavy OmniMech are a strange choice as
they compromise the Mech at night when over heating - not that something like
that should be a problem.

The Wasp IIC 2 has two ranged offensive weapons two still experimental Improved
Heavy Medium Lasers mounted one per arm in reinforced mounts.  These weapons do
away with the Heavy Laser's inherant inaccuracy by making them slightly more
susptable to overloads when hit.

Finally the Wasp's legs appear to have been reinforced with large talon like
additions.  It is unknown if these are purely cosmetic or if the Jade Falcons
have actually mounted a physical weapon on one of their Mechs.  Such a move
would be in a massive breach of standard Clan protocol.

Deployment:
Only five of these Mechs have been seen by a joint SLIC/Loki operation on
Sudeten.

Might drop one SRM-2 for an active probe and make it a true scout mech. Of course that also works with the ecm suite and tag. So that would take you up to a total of 5 designs of the Wasp IIC.

It's a prototype for the Kestrel OmniMech
