The New Clans: Detroit Rocks!

Ashur

Overview:

The Ashur is the one of the lightest combat vehicles of the new Clans.  Designed for a
single Warrior to operate, it is a six-wheeled, lightly armored--yet heavily armed--fast
combat vehicle that has proven itself as a long-range scout and skirmisher.  Warriors
assigned to second-line forces love the Ashur, as the single cockpit allows them an
opportunity to gain the glory normally reserved for MechWarriors.

Capabilities:

Massing just 15 tons, the Ashur is a very small and compact vehicle.  Nonetheless, it
should not be underestimated.  This vehicle's motive power is generated by six powered
wheels (three per side) with the power provided by a 100 rate fusion engine in the
vehicle's rear.  This allows the Ashur to cruise at 86.4 kilometers per hour and reach
flank speeds of 129.6 kph.

Two and a half-ton tons of ferro-fibrous armor plating provide enough protection to
absorb a Gauss hit to the front armor, and for both the sides to tank the entire payload
of a Streak SRM-6, without internal penetration.  The rear can even take the full force
of an Inner Sphere Large Laser and still retain some tattered armor protection.

The single Warrior assigned to an Ashur sits in an aerospace fighter-style cockpit,
complete with a high-visibility canopy to maximize his ability to see.  Set in the front
of the vehicle, the warrior is surrounded by weapon systems.  To his right is fixed the
barrel of an ER Medium Laser.  To his left is a Streak SRM-4 quad box launcher.
Immediately beneath the cockpit is an Anti-Personnel Gauss Rifle.  Two tons of
ammunition (one each of APG and Streak SRM) are stored in the main body of the
vehicle behind the cockpit.

Although vulnerable to hostile fire, the inexpensive nature of the Ashur, and the raw
aggression of most Warriors assigned to one, makes them lethal opponents.

Deployment:

All of the Clan's various combat vehicles are manufactured on Strana Mechty from
factory complexes that serve ALL the Clans.  Each year, the Clans present their
order for the coming year and the factories then manufacture what is needed--
provided that the Clan in question supplies the raw resources needed.  As combat
vehicles see use only seldom, the Clans do not, as a whole, squabble over the
factories and production as they do with BattleMechs and Aerospace Fighters.

The Ashur is found in all Clans, who use it a vehicle to redeem Warriors who
have failed in their duty.  Although a capable combat vehicle, low esteem such
Warriors are held in by the majority of Clans makes an assignment to an Ashur
very much of a punishment.

Variants:

There are no known variants to the Ashur.

Donar

Overview:

The Donar is the standard Clan light attack/scout VTOL.  Small and,
reasonably fast, it carries intense firepower that its single Warrior
can make good use of on the battlefield.  Armor protection is rather
low, but since all combat vehicles are expendable assets in the
mindset of the Clans, that deficiency is not considered significant.

Capabilities:

The Donar masses 15 tons and is manned by a single Warrior.  This
allows the vehicle to gather (slightly) more honor than those that
require a crew of two or more.  A 70-rate fusion engine provide
sufficient power to cruise at speeds of 118.8 kilometers per hour and
achieve a flank speed of 183.6 kph.  Three tons of ferro-fibrous
armor are fitted to the design, allowing the Donar to take a single
AC-20 hit to the nose, or an AC-10 shot to the sides or rear.  The
rotors, as with all VTOLs, remain vulnerable, however.

Armament consists of two LRM-5 missile launchers, fed from a single
ton of ammunition for 24 missile salvoes.  At closer ranges, two ER
Medium Lasers supplement the missiles.

Deployment:

Cheap and expendable, the Donar is found amongst all of the Clans of
Kerensky.

Variants:

Vehicles are not high on the priority list of most Clans.  As such, there
are no known official variants on the Donar.

Anhur

Overview:

In addition to moving conventional infantry around the battlefield, the
Clans occassionally have need for small cargo transports.  The Anhur
provides both capabilities in a compact and inexpensive platform.

Capabilities:

Massing 30 tons in overall weight, the Anhur requires a crew of two
Warriors to operate.  A 190-rate fusion engine provides enough
power to cruise at 118.8 kilometers per hour and reach flank speeds
of 183.6 kph.  Three tons of ferro-fibrous armor plating provide
identical protection to the 15-ton Donar.

Armament is rather light, with a single nose-mounted ER Medium
Laser and two AP Gauss Rifles (set in remote mounts on the right
and left side to support disembarking infantry).  The design carries
an internal bay able to load up to 5 tons of cargo or a full point of
25 Clan conventional infantry personnel.  The infantry can disembark
through sliding doors on the right and left side; unlike many light
transport VTOLs, the Anhur does not have a rear ramp.

Deployment:

With its ability to handle resupply operations, the Anhur is commonly
encountered in garrison forces, and can even be seen supporting
front-line or second-line combat units.  Every Clan deploys the Anhur
in fairly robust numbers.

Variants:

A few Clans refit the infantry compartment as a VIP transport, allowing
for high-ranking Clan officials to have transport that suits their station.
Other Clans ignore the need for pomp and circumstance and just use
the standard combat Anhur for such transport.

Athena

Overview:

The Athena is the standard Clan hover tank.  This is vehicle is a light,
fast, well-armed combat vehicle that excels at open-field combat.
Clan Hell's Horses uses this vehicle extensively in their combat
toumen, although most other Clans restrict the vehicle to garrison
units.

Capabilities:

Massing 30-tons, the Athena uses a 110-rate fusion engine that
allows it to cruise at speeds of 86.4 kilometers per hour and reach
a flank speed of 129.6 kph.  Crew consists of two Warriors, a
driver stationed in the hull and a gunner/commander seated in the
turret.  The design carries five tons of ferro-fibrous armor plating,
with sufficient protection to absorb a single AC-20 strike to the
front, turret, and both sides, while the rear can take two IS Large
Laser hits without suffering a penetration.  Although many
consider this armor protection to be extremely light, the Clans
view it as adquete for the designed role of the vehicle.

Armament is concentrated in the turret.  An ER Large Laser
provides the Athena with its long-range weapon, inflicting as
much damage as an IS PPC or AC-10.  Two weapons back
up the main gun:  an AP Gauss Rifle for anti-personnel work
(with 40 shots) and a Streak SRM-4 mounted in a box launcher
on the right side of the turret (with 25 shots).

Deployment:

Every Clan uses at least a few Athenas as scouts and screening
elements for their garrison forces.  Clan Hell's Horses differs,
however, in that they instead use the Athena to directly
support their BattleMech and Elemental formations in their
combat toumen.  In this role, the light armor of the Athena
is not as great a liability, and its speed and firepower complement
the BattleMechs well.

Variants:

To date, there have been no variants of the Athena.

Indra

Overview:

The Indra is a complementary hovercraft to the Athena hover tank.  But
where the Athena is designed for pure combat, the Indra instead is an
troop carrier, able to deploy a full point of conventional infantry troopers.

Capabilities:

The Indra masses 30 tons, using the same fusion plant and having identical
speed to the Athena hover tank.  Both designs carry the same armor
protection as well:  five tons of ferro-fibrous plating.  The two differ, in that
the Indra has a rear ramp that leads into a five-ton infantry compartment
able to transport up to twenty-five conventional infantry troopers.

To support its infantry, the Indra features a different mix of weapons than
the Athena.  The much smaller turret carries two ER Medium Lasers, a box
launcher for a Streak SRM-2 (50 shots), and an AP Gauss Rifle.  A second
APG is fitted on the bow of the design (with 40 shots shared between the
two systems).

Although the armament package is light, it is secondary to the ability to
deliver 25 Clan infantry troopers to the battlefield.

Deployment:

The Indra is found everywhere in Clan space.  Unarmed versions see use
in the civilian castes as a high-speed transport vehicle.  The Clan garrison
forces make extensive use of the Indra as well, deploying garrison infantry
where they most needed in a timely fashion.

Variants:

As with the majority of Clan vehicles, there are no variants on the basic
Indra chassis.

Ares

Overview:

Contrary to previous supositions rendered by ComStar and other
IS intelligence agencies, the vast majority of all Clan vehicles are
based on tracked chassis'.  Capable of operating in nearly every
terrain, from plains and low rolling hills, to forest, to rocky broken
terrain, to urban environments, tracked vehicles and their ability
to traverse ground comprise most of the Clan garrison forces.

And these vehicles tend towards designs that the IS would
recogonize as lights and mediums.  Why?  Clan doctrine calls upon
BattleMechs, Elementals, and Aerospace Fighters as the dominant
arms, relegating vehicles (for the most part) to garrison forces.  In
such garrisons, the need for overwhelming firepower is not quite as
important as IS Garrisons.  And given the Clan nature of Trials and
bidding practices, the designs that have emerged tend to stress
speed and maneuverability over raw firepower.  There are
exceptions, of course.  But by and large, the Clans vehicle forces
consist of lighter units.

The Ares is one of these units.

Capabilities:

Massing 30 tons, the Ares is tracked vehicle that utilizes a 180-rate
fusion engine to acheive a ground speed of 64.8 kilometers per
hour (cruise) and 97.2 kph (flank).  This solid little vehicle has a
crew of two Warriors (driver in the main hull and a gunner/
commander in the turret) and carries six tons of ferro-fibrous
armor plating for protection.  This is sufficient to resist an AC-20
hit on the sides, and stop two Gauss Slugs on the front and
turret faces.  Even the rear can absorb a single Gauss strike.

Armament is rather light, and concentrated in the turret.  Two
ER Medium Lasers are backed up by an AP Gauss Rifle (with
40 shots).  But the Ares also has a rear infantry comparment
with a folding ramp for 25 Clan infantry troopers.

Deployment:

The Ares is commonly encountered on the Clan Homeworlds.
This vehicle is the main unit wherein the Clans garrison infantry
are deployed throughout the enclaves.

Variants:

To date, no variant of the Ares has been encountered.

Astarte

Overview:

The Astarte is the Clan's standard light tank.  Fast and powerful,
it packs a punch and is well defended for a Clan combat vehicle.

Capabilities:

Massing 30 tons, the Astarte uses a 180-rate fusion engine in
order to reach a cruising speed of 64.8 kilometers per hour and
a flank speed of 97.2 kph.  The two-warrior design carries seven
tons of ferro-fibrous armor plating, with enough armor on the
front and turret to absorb three hits from an ER Large Laser,
plus sufficient on the sides to stop a Gauss Slug and an IS PPC,
while the rear can absorb three shots from an IS Large Laser.

The armament is all in the turret and consists of a single ER
Large Laser, backed up by an AP Gauss Rifle (40 shots).  This
combination provides a decent long-range punch and good
anti-personnel capacity.

Deployment:

The Astarte is a fairly rare design amongst the Clans; many
Warriors believe it is simply too small to stand against hostile
forces, be they other Clans or Bandits.  Still, the design does
have its proponents and see extensive use among the Horses.

Variants:

No variant of the Astarte had been produced to date.

Minerva

Overview:

The Minerva is the most common Clan combat vehicle.  A hard-hitting,
fairly fast-moving, well-protected medium tank, the Minerva can be
found in the garrison forces of any Clan, and is common in the combat
clusters of the Blood Spirits and Hell's Horses as well.

Capabilities:

Massing 50 tons in overall weight, the 4-Warrior Minerva (driver, systems
engineer, gunner, and commander) uses a powerful, yet lightweight
250-rate fusion engine for power.  This allows the tracked Minerva to
reach cruising speeds of 54 kilometers per hour and flank speeds of 86.4
kph.  This tank carries nine and a half tons of ferro-fibrous armor plating,
allowing the Minerva to sustain two AC-20 hits on the front and turret, as
well as an AC-20 and a Gauss Slug to the sides.  The rear is able to resist
two Gauss Slugs without penetration.

Three weapons are mounted, all in the turret.  The main gun is an ER
Large Laser, with a ten-tube LRM missile launcher (with Artemis IV) in a
box mount to the right side.  A remote mount AP Gauss Rifle rides on the
commander's cupola.  Three tons of ammunition are fitted, giving the
Minerva twenty-four salvoes for the LRMs and forty bursts for the APG.

Deployment:

The Minerva is perhaps the single most common Clan combat vehicle to
be encountered to date.  With its heavy firepower, good turn of speed,
and all-terrain capability, it forms the core of Clan Garrison units.  The
design also sees extensive service in Hell's Horses Clusters where it
screens the flanks of the BattleMechs in conjunction with Elementals.
Clan Blood Spirit also makes use of this vehicle, but not out of any love
for its design.  Instead, they field a Vehicle Trinary in their combat
clusters because Nicolas Kerensky decreed that was how things
would be.

Variants:

The Minerva remains unchanged because the Clans recogonize a
winner when they see one.  Finely tuned, any alterations would cost
this design either firepower, armor, or speed; none of which the
Clans are willing to part with.

Morrigan

Overview:

The Morrigan is the infantry-carrying counterpart to the Minerva
medium tank.  Designed to accompany the Minerva while carrying
a point of Clan infantry, the Morrigan is well-armed to support its
assigned mission role.

Capabilities:

This troop carrier shares the same basic hull, engine, and armor
plating as the Minerva and can obtain the same cross-country
speeds (54 kph cruise and 86.4 kph flank).  The Morrigan's hull
has been redesigned, however, to add a five-ton infantry
compartment to the rear, along with a drop-ramp for rapid exit
and entry on the battlefield.

A smaller turret carries the majority of the weapons:  two ER
Medium Lasers which provide solid firepower within their range, a
Streak SRM-6 box launcher on the right side of the turret (15
salvoes carried aboard), and an AP Gauss Rifle in a remote
weapons station on the commander cupola (with 20 shots).

A second APG is mounted on the bow of the Morrigan, under the
control of the systems engineer, also with 20 shots.

Deployment:

A capable and rugged vehicle, the Morrigan is not nearly as
commonly encountered as the Minerva.  Although the role of
battlefield infantry is appreciated by the Clans, most Warriors
tend to prefer the heavy weapons of the Minvera to another
point of Clan infantrymen.

Variants:

At the time of the publication of this TRO, there are no known
variants of the Morrigan.

Bishamon

Overview:

Although the Clans do not like artillery, they still recogonize the
ocassional need for it.  The Bishamon was built to allow them a
low-cost means of deploying artillery for their garrison forces.

Capabilities:

Constructed on a 70-ton chassis, the Bishamon uses a 280-rate
fusion engine to cruise at 43.2 kilometers per hour and attain a
flank speed of 64.8 kph.  Crewed by five Warriors (driver, systems
engineer, two gunners, and vehicle commander), the Bishamon
is heavily armored with ten tons of ferro-fibrous armor plating.
This protection allows the design to accomplish its primary
purpose of delivering artillery support, even in high-threat areas.

All but one of the weapons are concentrated in the turret, and
that weapon is an AP Gauss Rifle mounted on the bow of the
vehicle.  A second APG is fixed to a remote weapons station on
the commanders cupola.  The main weapon is an Arrow Artillery
Rocket launcher in the turret, with two co-axial ER Medium
Lasers for self-defense.  Nine tons of ammunition are carried
aboard the Bishamon:  one ton of APG (40 shots) and eight tons
of Arrow IV (40 shots).

Although classified as a heavy tank, the Bishamon's job is not
to engage the enemy directly; instead it is to serve as on-call
fire support for any elements of its Clan's toumen that requires
a fire mission.  As such, assignment to this particular vehicle is
viewed as the worst possible for a Warrior in a Garrison unit.

Deployment:

Only a handful of Bishamons are deployed by any single Clan.
Each Clan assigned a point (seldom more) to most Garrison units,
but these vehicles see combat only on rare occassions.  A few
Clans (the Wolves and Sharks especially) tend to deploy entire
Stars of Bishamon's as formed units, but actual combat still
tends to be a rare event.

Variants:

Not only is the Bishamon a vehicle, but it is an artillery vehicle.
There are no variants in service.

Camalus

Overview:

The Camalus is a heavy infantry carrier that sees limited service.  The
Clans have also adapted the design to serve as a long-range fire-
support unit for their Trinary formation, a task that it accomplishes
well.

Capabilities:

At 70 tons in overall mass, the Camalus is somewhat slow and
plodding by Clan standards.  The design does use a 280-rate fusion
engine that allows for a cruise speed of 43.2 kilometers per hour
and a flank speed of 64.8 kph.  It also carries a full ten tons of
ferro-fibrous armor plating:  enough to take the hit from three
Clan ER PPCs or Gauss Rifles on the front or turret without going
internal.  The sides can only take a single Gauss Rifle AND an
AC-20 burst, whereas the rear is the weakest and can only resist
four shots from an IS Large Laser.

At the rear of the vehicle is a five-ton infantry compartment with
a folding ramp allowing fast access and egress.  Three members of
the crew are stationed forward (the driver, systems engineer, and
sensor operator), while the gunner and commander sit perched in the
turret.  The systems engineer mans the bow-mounted AP Gauss
Rifle, but all other guns are fired by the gunner or the commander.

The design carries two ER Mediums, an AP Gauss, a Streak SRM-6 in
a box launcher on the left side of the turret, and a massive LRM-20
with Artemis IV on the right side of the turret.  Seven tons of ammo
are loaded aboard, giving 80 shots for the APGs, 15 salvoes for the
Streak SRMs, and 24 salvoes for the LRMs.

Not only can the Camalus deliver its infantry safely to the battlefield,
but it can give them--and other allied Clan units--tremendous fire-
support on the battlefield.

Deployment:

Slower than many Clans have a preference for, nonetheless, every
Clan deploys a significant number of Camalus troop carriers among
their garrison forces.  The combination of integral infantry support,
firepower, and heavy armor make this vehicle very attractive.

Variants:

Not wanting to mess with success, the Clans have made no attempt
to modify the Camalus.

Chemosh

Overview:

The Chemosh is a dedicated air-defense combat vehicle, and in that
role it sees far more use than the Bishamon Artillery track.  Devoted
to providing its Clan brothers with protection from air attacks, the
Chemosh is seen as doing an honorable and thankless job.  Clan
pilots especially hate this vehicle.

Capabilities:

Based in large part on the Camalus, the Chemosh shares the same
engine, speed, crew, and armor protection.  But the hull was
redesigned to eliminate the infantry compartment and greatly
expand the turret and weapon systems.  Five weapons are
mounted:  an AP Gauss Rifle in a remote weapons station atop
the commander's cupola being the first.  The remaining four are
arranged in a quad mount in the turret:  two LB-5X autocannons
and two ER Medium Lasers.  Seven tons of ammunition are
carried:  one ton for the APG (40 shots) and six tons for the
LB-5X ACs (80 Cluster and 40 Slug being standard).

Often referred to as the Clan Rifleman (due to the Clan ER
Medium Lasers having the same range and nearly same damage
as that ancient BattleMechs traditional weaponry), the Chemosh
is a vital part of the modern Clan battlefield.

Deployment:

Every Garrison unit attempts to obtain as many points of
Chemosh as possible, in light of the power of Clan Aerospace
assets.  But the primary mission of these Air Defense Tanks is
the defense of fixed logistics positions, such as supply dumps,
repair facilities, and space-ports, as well as grounded
DropShips.  Typically deployed in Star or even Trinary strength
to defend these assets, the Chemosh prevents Clan Aerospace
Fighters from having free reign over the battlefield.

Variants:

Designed for one job that it does well, the Clans have not
bothered with attempted to better the Chemosh.

Ishtar

Overview:

The Clan's standard heavy tank is the 70 ton Ishtar, and it more
than lives up to expectations.  This heavy main battle tank leads
garrison units in defense of the Clan Homeworlds against pirates,
bandits, and (upon rare occassion) other Clans.

Capabilities:

The Ishtar is 70 tons in weight.  Like the Bisahmon, Chemosh, and
Camalus, it uses a 280-rate fusion engine for speeds of 43.2 kph
(cruise) and 64.8 kph (flank), and it carries the same ten tons of
ferro-fibrous armor plating.

But this behemoth devotes all of its remaining mass to weaponry
designed to tear apart enemy BattleMechs and vehicles with
abandon.  Four weapons are concentrated in the turret:  the main
gun being an ER PPC.  To the left of the turret is a box launcher
for a Streak SRM-6, while on the right side there is a fifteen-tube
LRM launcher with Artemis IV.  Finally, an AP Gauss Rifle on a
remote weapons station on the commander's cupola provides
close-defense against infantry.  Five tons of ammunition are
carried, giving 40 shots for the APG, 15 salvoes for the Streak
SRM-6, and 24 shots for the LRMs.

Deployment:

Few Clans employ a combat vehicle heavier than the Ishtar,
and the low speed ensures that even in Garrison units where
it is found, it is not common.  The heavy firepower and
armor protection of the Ishtar is highly valued by Warriors
assigned to such units, however.

Variants:

At the present time there are no known variants on the Ishtar.

Oro

Overview:

Stunningly slow, the 90-ton Oro is the youngest and largest of the
combat vehicles of the Clans.  Designed by Clan Blood Spirit, to
date this design is used only by them and Clan Smoke Jaguar.
The Jaguars acquired a handful of these designs that they added
to their defenses of Huntress, but the Spirits use the Oro in
place of assault BattleMechs in second-line combat formations.

Capabilities:

Massing 90-tons, only a fool would expect the Oro to be fleet of
foot.  This design with its crew of six Warriors uses a 270-rate
fusion engine which allows for a pitiful cruise speed of just
32.4 kilometers per hour (54 kph flank).  Armor protection is an
impressive twelve and a half tons of ferro-fibrous, able to resist
three AC-20 shots to the bow or turret; two in every other
location, including the rear.

Armament consists of an ER PPC in the turret, set to the right of
a massive Gauss Rifle (with 24 shots).  These twin guns provide
the Oro with tremendous ranged firepower, that is augmented
by an LRM-15 with Artemis IV on the right side of the turret (24
shots).  For in close, the design also carries a Streak SRM-6 box
launcher on the left of the turret (15 shots).  The final weapon
is an AP Gauss Rifle in a remote weapons station on the
commander's cupola with 40 shots.

Despite its crawling speed, the Oro's firepower is exceptional.

Deployment:

Only the Jaguars and Spirits currently deploy the Oro.  The
Jaguars assign their few Oros to a Garrison unit tasked with
the final defense of their capital--a unit that seldom sees
active duty since the Jaguars also keep two front-line
Galaxies on planet at all times.

The Spirits, however, use the Oro as a low-cost alternative
to actual assault-weight BattleMechs in second-line units.
Here, the Spirit BattleMechs try and herd their opponents
into the guns of the Oros, allowing the second-line
Warriors assigned to these vehicles an opportunity to
earn glory.

Variants:

Introduced less than eight years ago, there are no known
plans to modify the Oro.

Re: The New Clans: Detroit Rocks!

And . . . that finishes off my Clan vehicles.  There aren't that many, but I think it fills all of the roles that are required.  More could be added, but really . . . why?  I mean we could add some ballistic weapons, but why?  They all have fusion engines, they need to use those heat sinks for something, and why waste tons on ballistic weapons when the ER Large Laser and ER PPC simply do a better job?

Anyway, that is it for my New Clan Vehicles.  Heh.  We NEED a Clan world named Detroit.
