Lots of labor to run the WorkMechs and Suits. Technicians for repair and possibly ore refinement.

Yea I wasn't sure of the exact roles between the two when first saw it. On the Battlearmor I would think Tech's as I put a MG on it as I felt if used on planets they may run into critters like Burrocks so some type of defense would be needed and Techs may get away with that while Laborers wouldn't. Same thoughts with the mining lasers on the Industrial Mech what would a Clan think about that? Id say it would be fine for either but some clans might be more jumpy about it than others. Dropships, Gunners and Officers would be warriors the rest of the crew would be a mix with Laborers probably the majority.

I like it, perhaps turn the engine into a fuel cell one to make sure its completely de-militarized and I could see these being used by labour castes and the Free Guilds.  Shame you can't fit some cargo hosts onto it.

This kind of reminds me of TRO Vehicle Annex, neat ideas that are not necessarily military assets.

Researching Warships I found this that works for Mining which this thread is about so far.

Quote
Mass Driver systems have been used by civilian orbital mining and manufacturing interests for centuries as an economical means of moving materials. Functioning as a primitive Gauss Rifle, a load is placed into a cradle which is accelerated via a series of magnets. The load then flies off on the directed course at a relatively slow speed, requiring no rockets, fuel, or guidance systems. Once it reaches its destination the load is captured by an orbital tug or DropShip and maneuvered into its final place. Careful operations and strict safety guidelines were needed to make sure the system's planets were not affected by a load that missed its target. If the load entered a planetary atmosphere, when it impacted the surface it would liberate energies similar to those of a small tactical nuclear device. Due to the massive damage and fallout these weapons can inflict upon a planet, mass drivers were rightly considered weapons of mass destruction and access to their control systems was heavily restricted and regulated.

Yeah the Mass Driver as a weapon system debuted on the Soyal in the Star League era and it was the Blakists who dusted it off for the Jihad.

Still I wonder what the Bears' Asteroid Mining innovation really was? Was it something involving mass drivers or another specific innovation like a new suit based on the Elemental which the Goliath Scorpions first innovated for underwater mining? Or was it multi dimensional??

If you see my post a few up. Rereading Warden Clans book it really appears that they were the ones to first start Asteroid mining while everyone else was just digging in the dirt. As they grew they pretty much probably just established a monopoly or an expertise at it. But there is so much more we could do as seen with these designs and topics.

Absolutely, asteroid mining is pointed to in the Belters history. Look them up. It was basically the only way to go as Terra ran out of resources than the jumpship was created and it was much cheaper to mine goods on other worlds and transport them back to Earth. So what did the Bears do or invent to make it more economically feasible?
